Independent Color Filtering of Differently Polarized Light Using Metal-Insulator-Metal Type Guided Mode Resonance Structure

  • The independent operation of a color filter for incident polarization is demonstrated using a guided-mode resonance (GMR) filter employing a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide. To achieve independent operation, a rectangular MIM grating is proposed as a wave-guide resonator. The design considerations are discussed and include how to determine the grating period and slit width. Power flow distribution is observed with slit width variation. Blue-green, green-red, and blue-red filters for corresponding x- and y-polarizations are demonstrated as application examples with numerical simulation with rectangle-shaped MIM grating. As a practical application, feasibility as a chromatic polarizer is discussed.

  • 송배전용 설비에 사용되는 옥외 절연물로는 porcelain이나 glass insulator가 주로 사용되어 왔지만 최근 신소재의 발달로 가볍고 절연성능이 우수한 폴리머애자(composite insulator)가 보편화되기 시작하였다. 고분자 소재를 이용한 대형절연물의 제조 기술이 성숙되어 가고 있고, 생산 원가 면에서도 porcelain보다 유리하여 이미 폴리머애자의 가격이 저렴해지고 있는 실정이다. 더욱이 국토가 좁아 송배전 설비의 시설환경이 좋지 않고(산악, 도서) 선진사회화 되면서 인건비 상승으로 인하여 취급이 용이하고 경량인 이들 폴리머애자의 장정이 부각되는 시점에 와 있다. 본 논문은 철탑에서 도체를 지지하고 있는 기존의 무거운 금속 암과 애자련 대신 전기적 특성과 내환경성이 우수한 암 절연물을 사용한 154kV급 철탑 설계 방법과 컴팩트화에 대한 방법을 제시하고자 한다.

  • For practical electrical insulation design of high temperature superconducting (HTS) power apparatuses, knowledge of the dielectric behavior of insulators in cryogenic liquid such as liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) is essential. So in this paper, we discussed experimental investigations of breakdown and V-t characteristics of several insulators such as Kapton and glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) that are candidates of insulator for HTS apparatus in cryogenic liquid. And we investigated the degradation of these insulation samples after breakdown with the microscope and SEM photograph. Moreover, survival and hazard analysis was performed.

Analytical Study on the Performance Characteristics of an Instant Cooling Type Water Purifier with the Design Parameters of the Cooling Tank (순간냉각식 정수기 냉수조의 설계변수에 따른 성능 특성에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the effect on the energy consumption of an instant cooling type water purifier by the design parameters of the cooling tank. Initially, the simulation program was developed and verified. The simulation results showed that the energy consumption was reduced by replacing the shape of the cooling tank from a rectangular to a cube, increasing the evaporator length, decreasing the volume of the cooling tank, and increasing the performance of the insulator. The order of the effect magnitude on the energy consumption was as follows; volume of the cooling tank, conductivity and thickness of the insulator, shape of the cooling tank, length of the evaporator, and length of the water tube.

  • The engine mount of a car subjected to a pre-load related to the weight of the engine, and acts to insulate the vibration coming from the engine by moving on large or small displacement depending on the driving condition of the car. The vibration insulation of the engine mount is an effect obtained by dissipating the mechanical energy into heat by the viscosity characteristic of the rubber and the microscopic behavior of the additive carbon black. Therefore, dynamic stiffness from the intrinsic properties of rubber filled with carbon black at the design stage is an important design consideration. In this paper, we introduced a hyper-elastic, visco-elastic and elasto-plastic model to predict the dynamic characteristics of rubber, and developed a fitting program to determine the material model parameters using MATLAB. The dynamic characteristics analysis of the rubber insulator of the ACTIVE MOUNT was carried out by using MSC.MARC nonlinear structural analysis software, which provides the dynamic characteristics material model. The analysis results were compared with the dynamic characteristics test results of the rubber insulator, which is one of the active mount components, and the analysis results were confirmed to be valid.

  • The electrical characteristics of the monolithic 3-dimensional static random access memory consisting of a feedback field-effect transistor (M3D-SRAM-FBFET) was investigated using technology computer-aided design (TCAD). The N-type FBFET and N-type MOSFET are designed with fully depleted silicon on insulator (FDSOI), and those are located at bottom and top tiers, respectively. For the M3D-SRAM-FBFET, as the supply voltage decreased from 1.9 V to 1.6 V, the reading on-current decreased approximately 10 times.

  • We have been studying on the discharged phenomena if compound dielectrics for insulator which is very important in electric machinery and et al. In this paper we come to the couclusion that as a result of studying on the electric design of Ozonizer, the higher frequency becomes the better output could be got, and then discharge power could be the greatest by selecting the distance of the discharge gap and atomospheric pressure properly under the same applied voltage, and that power factor of the Ozonizer reached the maximum power at a particular frequency when the discharge power is maintained at constant.

  • The economical design of steel towers fortrausmission line. This study has been made on the design criteria of steel towers for power trasmission line adopted in the United States of America, France, Japan and Korea in order to find out any access to design the economical steel twers in Korea following to our own climate conditions. As the result of this study, involved in this description. Writer belive that the weight of steel towers can be saved by 10% to 20% approximately on the steel towers which will be constructed in the near future in Korea, by the possibility of reducing the design wind pressures on towers and cables in those areas of inland of Korea, the increase of number of standard towers from four types to five, the adoption of comparative narrower base towers than those in past practice and improvement on the assumption of manimum delection angle of suopension type insulator strings.

  • The air clearance of the transmission tower is determined by the switching overvoltage of the system, and the insulator length is determined by contamination design. This paper described the switching overvoltage analysis result of 500 kV system and air clearance design. The overvoltage include fault initiation, fault clearing, closing and reclosing overvoltages. We illustrated the contamination design example, air clearance design of a tower considering swing angle of the conductor.

  • In order to safely use thermoplastic (TP) cables in high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, it is necessary to analyze the life loss rate of the cable due to system fault that may occur during operation through various research and tests. In this paper, we analyzed the insulation life loss rate of TP cable according to the type of faults that may occur during HVDC system operation. Electric power due to fault was applied to the TP cable model, and the life loss rate of the insulator was analyzed by applying the Arrhenius-Inverse Power Model (IPM) based on the analysis results through the 2D finite element method. As a result of the analysis, the life loss rate of the insulator was highly influenced by the electric field strength, and the loss rate was highest inside the insulator when a fault occurred. These results can be used as important characteristics in the early design stage for commercialization of TP cables.
