  • This paper presents the performance evaluation of an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay-assisted multiuser multiple input-multiple output (MU-MIMO) downlink transmission system for correlated fading channels. The overall system performance was improved by incorporating a double-quadrature spatial modulation (DQSM) scheme. The bit error rate (BER) performance and detection complexity of the AF-MU-MIMO-DQSM system were analyzed and compared with those of a conventional AF-MU-MIMO system under the same conditions and parameters. The results showed that the correlated fading channel severely affected the performance of systems with higher spectral efficiency (SE). Considering an SE of 12 bpcu/user, the AF-MU-MIMO-DQSM system yielded a gain of up to 3 dB in BER performance compared with that of its conventional counterpart for the analyzed cases. In terms of detection complexity, the AF-MU-MIMO-DQSM system showed a reduction of up to 56 % compared with that of the conventional system for the optimal maximum likelihood detection criterion.

  • In this paper, a Two-Degree-of-Freedom-Controller(TDFC) for DC motors based on inverse dynamics and the fuzzy technique is presented. The proposed controller includes the inverse dynamic model of a DC motor system, a prefilter and a fuzzy compensator. The model of the system is characterized by a nonlinear equation with coulomb friction. The prefilter eliminates high frequency effects occurring when the inverse dynamic model is implemented. The fuzzy compensator is designed for tracking the change of the reference input and simultaneously regulating the error between the reference input and the system output which can be caused by disturbances. The optimal parameters of both the model and the compensator are identified by a real-coded genetic algorithm. An experimental work on a DC motor system is carried out to verify the performance of the proposed controller.

  • The objective of this study was to estimate surface runoff from rice paddy plots using an artificial neural network (ANN). A field experiment with three treatment levels was conducted in the NICS saemangum experimental field located in Iksan, Korea. The ANN model with the optimal network architectures, named Paddy1901 with 19 input nodes, 1 hidden layer with 16 neurons nodes, and 1 output node, was adopted to predict surface runoff from the plots. The model consisted of 7 parameters of precipitation, irrigation rate, ponding depth, average temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and solar radiation on the daily basis. Daily runoff, as the target simulation value, was computed using a water balance equation. The field data collected in 2011 were used for training and validation of the model. The model was trained based on the error back propagation algorithm with sigmoid activation function. Simulation results for the independent training and testing data series showed that the model can perform well in simulating surface runoff from the study plots. The developed model has a main advantage that there is no requirement for any prior assumptions regarding the processes involved. ANN model thus can be a good tool to predict surface runoff from rice paddy fields.

  • In this paper, an efficient concatenated coding scheme under the satellite channel is presented. The performance of this scheme in terms of bit error rate versus energy per information bit over white gaussian noise power density E/N has been evaluated via computer simulation as a function of various system parameters. To achieve accuracy in simulation results, the distortions caused from the satellite channel, such as the nonlinearity of the TWTA(traveling wave tube amplifier), signal distortions of the input and output filters, has been considered. The simulation results show that, through using the 2/3 punctured convolutional code as the inner code of the concatenated code system, the coding rate can be improved more over 16%, while maintaining the same system complexity and bit error performance.

  • In this study, a simulation tool is developed in order to investigate non steady-state cornering performance of 6WD/6WS special-purpose vehicles. 6WD vehicles are believed to have good performance on off-the-road maneuvering and to have fail-safe capabilities. But the cornering performances of 6WS vehicles are not well understood in the related literature. In this paper, 6WD/6WS vehicles are modeled as a 18 DOF system which includes non-linear vehicle dynamics, tire models, and kinematic effects. Then the vehicle model is constructed into a simulation tool using the MATLAB /SIMULINK so that input/output and vehicle parameters can be changed easily with the modulated approach. Cornering performance of the 6WS vehicle is analyzed for brake steering and pivoting, respectively. Simulation results show that cornering performance depends on the middle-wheel steering as well as front/rear wheel steering. In addition, a new 6WS control law is proposed in order to minimize the sideslip angle. Lane change simulation results demonstrate the advantage of 6WS vehicles with the proposed control law.

  • Electric breakdown in the liquid produces a spark channel. The energy input into the channel causes expansion of a vapor gas cavity. If the power of the discharge is high enough, this expansion is fast enough to produce a shock wave which propagates through the liquid to the subject of destruction. We focused our attention on the correlation between electric parameters and the characteristics of the flash caused by point to-point electrode discharge in the water. By varying firing voltage and gap length, we obtained the features of the flash : amplitude, pulse width, and so on. In this paper, We have known that there is a concrete interrelation between underwater firing voltage and photodiode output.

  • This paper presents steering system requirements to ensure the stabilized lateral control of autonomous driving vehicles. The two main objectives of a lateral controller in autonomous vehicles are maintenance of vehicle stability and tracking of the desired path. Even if the desired steering angle is immediately determined by the upper level controller, the overall controller performance is greatly influenced by the specification of steering system actuators. Since one of the major inescapable traits that affects controller performance is the time delay of the steering actuator, our work is mainly focused on finding adequate parameters of high level control algorithm to compensate these response characteristics and guarantee vehicle stability. Actual vehicle steering angle response was obtained with Electric Power Steering (EPS) actuator test subject to various longitudinal velocity. Steering input and output response analysis was performed via MATLAB system identification toolbox. The use of system identification is advantageous since the transfer function of the system is conveniently obtained compared with methods that require actual mathematical modeling of the system. Simulation results of full vehicle model suggest that the obtained tuning parameter yields reduced oscillation and lateral error compared with other cases, thus enhancing path tracking performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a sequentially optimization method for fuzzy inference system using fuzzy equalization and linguistic hedge. The fuzzy equalization does not require the usual learning step for generating fuzy rules. However, it is too sensitive for the given input-output data set. So, we adopt a sequential scheme which sequentially optimizes the fuzzy inference system. Here, the parameters of fuzzy membership function obtained from the fuzzy equalization are optimized by the genetic algorithm, and then they are also modified to increase the performance index using the linguistic hedge. Finally, we applied it to rice taste data and got better results than previous ones.

  • An adaptive non-uniform quantization scheme is proposed for soft-decision error correction in NAND flash memory. Even though the conventional maximizing mutual information (MMI) quantizer shows the optimal post-FEC (forward error correction) bit error rate (BER) performance, this quantization scheme demands heavy computational overheads due to the exhaustive search to find the optimal parameter values. The proposed quantization scheme has a simple structure that is constructed by only six parameters, and the optimal values of them are found by maximizing the mutual information between the input and the output symbols. It is demonstrated that the proposed quantization scheme improves the BER performance of soft-decision decoding with only small computational overheads.

  • This paper relates 10% shrink from $0.13{\mu}m$ design for core devices as well as input and output (I/O) devices different from previous poly length shrink size only. We analyzed body effect with different channel length and doping profile simulation. After fixing the gate oxide module process, LDD implant conditions were optimized such as decoupled plasma nitridation of gate oxide, TEOS oxide $100{\AA}$ before LDD implant and 22o tilt-angle(45o twist-angle) LDD implant respectively to match the spice DC parameters of pre-shrink and finally matched them within 5%.
