  • In this paper, the evaluation of the performance of Korea Meteorological Administratio (KMA) Global Seasonal forecasting system version 6 (GloSea6) is presented by assessing the effects of larger ensemble size and carrying out the test using different initial conditions for hindcast in sub-seasonal to seasonal scales. The number of ensemble members increases from 3 to 7. The Ratio of Predictable Components (RPC) approaches the appropriate signal magnitude with increase of ensemble size. The improvement of annual variability is shown for all basic variables mainly in mid-high latitude. Over the East Asia region, there are enhancements especially in 500 hPa geopotential height and 850 hPa wind fields. It reveals possibility to improve the performance of East Asian monsoon. Also, the reliability tends to become better as the ensemble size increases in summer than winter. To assess the effects of using different initial conditions, the area-mean values of normalized bias and correlation coefficients are compared for each basic variable for hindcast according to the four initial dates. The results have better performance when the initial date closest to the forecasting time is used in summer. On the seasonal scale, it is better to use four initial dates, where the maximum size of the ensemble increases to 672, mainly in winter. As the use of larger ensemble size, therefore, it is most efficient to use two initial dates for 60-days prediction and four initial dates for 6-months prediction, similar to the current Time-Lagged ensemble method.

  • A systematic study of microbial fuel cells comprised of alkalophilic Bacillus sp. B-31 has been carried out under various operating conditions. A significant amount of electricity was generated when redox mediators were used. Among the phenothiazine-type redox dyes tested, azure A was found to be the most effective both in maintaining a high cell voltage and for the long-term operation. The maximum efficiency was and for the long-term operation. The maximum efficiency was obtained at ca. $50^{\circ}C$ giving an open circuit voltage of 0.7V. A small change in temperature did not significantly affect the cell performance, but a rapid decrease in performance was observed below $20^{\circ}C$ and above $70^{\circ}C$. It was noticeable that fuel cell efficiency and discharge pattern depended strongly on the carbon source used in the initial culture medium. Regardless of the initial carbon sources, only glucose and trehalose were utilized as substrates. Galactose, however, was not substantially utilized except when galactose was used in the initial medium. Glucose, in particular, showed $87\%$ coulombic efficiency, which was the highest value ever reported, when Bacillus sp. was cultured in a maltose-containing medium. This study demonstrates that highly efficient microbial fuel cells can be constructed with alkalophilic microorganisms by fine-tuning the operating conditions and by carefully selecting carbon sources in the initial culture medium.

  • Initial hull form of 10 G/T and 40 knots class coastal patrol boat is newly developed. The resistance performances are experimentally and numerically investigated by model test at high speed circulating water channel(CWC) and CFD technique. The effect of a fin attached at hull side and initial trim are studied together. Wave patterns are observed to make clear the relation between the resistance performance and the wave characteristics. it can be found that the initial trim plays a role to increase the resistance performance above a certain velocity.

  • In CDGPS, ambiguity resolution is determined by the performance of a floating solution, and thus, the performance needs to be improved. In the case of precise positioning at a stationary position, the batch method using multiple measurements is used for the accuracy improvement of a position. The position accuracy performance of a floating solution is outstanding, but it has a problem of high computation cost because all measurements are used. In this study, to improve the floating solution performance of the initial static user in CDGPS, a floating solution method using a recursive filter was implemented. A recursive filter estimates the position solution of the current epoch using the position solution of up to the previous epoch and the pseudorange measurement of the current epoch. The computation cost of the floating solution method using a recursive filter was found to be similar to that of the epoch-by-epoch method. Also, based on actual GPS signals, the floating solution performance was found to be similar to that of the batch method. The floating solution using a recursive filter could significantly improve the performance of the prompt initial position and ambiguity resolution of the initial static user.

  • This study reports on initial founder performance and satisfaction that is affected by mentoring skills and mentoring functions. Through the empirical analysis, seen the initial founder performance and satisfaction as a respective dependent variable, this study intends to provide efficient direction of the responsibility mentor and present a method that enhances the survival of the initial start-up founder. The frequency analysis was conducted to determine the general characteristics of the sample, by leveraging the statistical package SPSS 20.0 for Windows program, details of the items measuring tools present a statistical analysis of sample data, 120 people have gathered in the survey data for this factor analysis was performed with a correlation to classify each region was calculated to Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ factor to determine the reliability of the measurement tool, and tested the hypothesis using linear regression analysis for verification. Was found to play an important role to draw the founder and mentor mentoring skills and capabilities in early stage start-ups, and conclusions drawn from this process. In particular, modeling of the mentor with a sound mind and behavior brought the better performance and satisfaction of the initial start-up founder. If a mentor provides mentoring with more interests in career development and psychosocial functions of the mentoring functions, it is seen to be more efficient way to improve survival rate of initial start-up as well as increasing a founder's performance and satisfaction.

  • In the phase boundary estimation problem, the estimation performance depends on the initial guess. However, there is no information on the number of bubbles and those positions for the initial guess in real flows. Therefore, it is very important to set appropriate initial guesses from prior information. In this paper, in order to set initial guesses for estimating the phase boundaries in two-phase flows, first, unknown resistivity distribution was estimated using the difference reconstruction method. After that, an adaptive threshold value was automatically computed using intermodes method. Based on this value, the number of bubbles and the initial position were determined. The numerical experiments have been performed to evaluate the estimation performance of the proposed method.

  • This paper describes an alignment algorithm that estimates the initial heading angle of AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) for starting navigation in a sea area. In the basic dead reckoning system, the initial orientation of the vehicle is very important. In particular, the initial heading value is an essential factor in determining the performance of the entire navigation system. However, the heading angle of AUVs cannot be measured accurately because the DCS (Digital Compass) corrupted by surrounding magnetic field in pointing true north direction of the absolute global coordinate system (not the same to magnetic north direction). Therefore, we constructed an experimental constraint and designed an algorithm based on extended Kalman filter using only inertial navigation sensors and a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver basically. The value of sensor covariance was selected by comparing the navigation results with the reference data. The proposed filter estimates the initial heading angle of AUVs for navigation in a sea area and reflects sampling characteristics of each sensor. Finally, we verify the performance of the filter through experiments.

  • In Gen-2 Q-algorithm, the initial value of $Q_{fp}$, which is the slot-count parameter, is not defined in the standard. In this case, if we let the initial $Q_{fp}$ be large, the number of empty slot will be large during the initial query round. On the other hand, if the initial $Q_{fp}$ is small, almost all the slots will be collided. As a result, it is anticipated that the performance will be declined because the frame size does not converge to the optimal point quickly during the query round. In this paper, we analyze how the performances of Gen-2 Q-algorithm will be affected by the initial slot-count size.

  • In this paper, the influence of initial formaldehyde/urea (F/U) molar ratios on the performance of low molar ratio (1.0) urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin adhesives has been investigated. Two initial F/U molar ratios, i.e., the first and second initial molar ratios were used for the alkaline addition reaction. Three levels of the first initial F/U molar ratios (2.0, 3.0, and 4.0) and two levels of the second initial molar ratios (2.0 and 1.7) were employed to prepare a total of six UF resins with an identical final molar ratio (1.0). The basis properties, functional groups, molecular weight, crystallinity, and thermal curing properties of the UF resins were characterized in detail. Higher levels (3.0 and 4.0) of the first initial F/U molar ratio provided the UF resins with better properties (non-volatile solids content, viscosity, gelation time, pH, and specific gravity) than those of the resins prepared with the conventional level F/U molar ratio of 2.0. Statistical analysis suggested that combining the first and second initial molar ratio of 4.0 with 1.7 would result in UF resins with greater adhesion strength and lower formaldehyde emission than those of the resins prepared with other molar ratios. The results showed that higher levels of the first initial molar ratio resulted in a more branched structure, as indicated by GPC, FTIR, DSC, XRD, and greater adhesion strength than those of the other UF resins with an identical final molar ratio of 1.0.

  • In this paper, a SDINS(strapdown inertial navigation system) rapid initial alignment technique with adaptive time delay compensation is proposed. The proposed method consists of two steps. In first step, misalignment and data latency are estimated by conducting pre-transfer alignment. Then, hybrid alignment is designed to rapidly find the misalignment changes induced by pyro-shock. To improve the performance of hybrid alignment, adaptive time delay compensation method is suggested. We verify the performance improvement of the proposed alignment scheme comparing with the conventional transfer alignment method by van test. The test result shows that the proposed alignment technique improves alignment performance.
