  • In order to contribute to trial of the ocean weather forecasts, we have developed new generation sea surface temperature. It is clod free, high-spatial resolution daily SST product, which enables us to follow the movements of SST patterns relating to the oceanic variations. The product is produced through an objective analysis merging various infrared and microwave SST products.

  • Near-infrared(NIR) reflectance spectroscopy was employed to qualify various ploymorphs. We collected 8 potential polymorphs forms of Medicine T for this study. Near-infared spectra of the powder samples contained in glass vials were obtained over the wavelength region of 1100-1750nm. There were the peak around 1560nm in the 6 spectra among 8 spectra. Principal component analysis(PCA) has been performed to examine the qualitative difference of 8 polymorphs PC space. (omitted)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of heat application on the immune activities of the human body. To exam, furthermore, the immune effect from the healthy volunteer(male:15, female:15) by monitoring changes of immune substances such as various leukocytes[total white blood cell(WBC), eosinophil, neutrophil, basophil, monocyte, and lymphocyte], a comparative study with warm water immersion($40.8{\pm}0.3^{\circ}C$) and infrared(250W) was carried out. The plasma analysis showed that the count of white blood cell, eosinophil, and neutrophil were elevated in warm water immersion- or infrared. stimulated group compared with control group. However, the count of basophil was decreased in both warm water immersion- and infrared-stimulated group than control group. Therefore, these results suggest that the thermostimulation improved immune activity.

  • We developed autoguiding system for IGRINS (Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph) which is a high resolution near-IR spectrograph. This instrument will be attached on the 2.7m telescope at the McDonald observatory in 2013 November. IGRINS consists of three near-Infrared detector modules, i. e., H and K band spectrograph modules and a K band slit camera module, within which we are using the slit camera for autoguiding of the telescope. Comparing to typical optical CCDs, however, the infrared array shows non-uniform responses, higher noises, and many bad pixels. In this poster, we present methods to improve center finding functions and algorithms for the infrared array and the simulator test results of the IGRINS Slit-Camera Package.

  • We are creating all-sky diffuse maps from the AKARI mid-infrared survey data with the two photometric bands centered at wavelengths of 9 and $18{\mu}m$. The AKARI mid-infrared diffuse maps achieve higher spatial resolution and higher sensitivity than the IRAS maps. In particular, the $9{\mu}m$ data are unique resources as an all-sky tracer of the emission of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). However, the original data suffer many artifacts. Thus, we have been developing correction methods. Among them, we have recently improved correction methods for the non-linearity and the reset anomaly of the detector response. These corrections successfully reduce the artifact level down to $0.1MJy\;sr^{-1}$ on average, which is essential for discussion on faint extended emission (e.g., the Galactic PAH emission). We have also made progress in the subtraction of the scattered light caused in the camera optics. We plan to release the improved diffuse maps to the public within a year.

Predicting Soil Chemical Properties with Regression Rules from Visible-near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy

  • This study investigates the prediction of soil chemical properties (organic matter (OM), pH, Ca, Mg, K, Na, total acidity, cation exchange capacity (CEC)) on 688 Korean soil samples using the visible-near infrared reflectance (VIS-NIR) spectroscopy. Reflectance from the visible to near-infrared spectrum (350 to 2500 nm) was acquired using the ASD Field Spec Pro. A total of 688 soil samples from 168 soil profiles were collected from 2009 to 2011. The spectra were resampled to 10 nm spacing and converted to the 1st derivative of absorbance (log (1/R)), which was used for predicting soil chemical properties. Principal components analysis (PCA), partial least squares regression (PLSR) and regression rules model (Cubist) were applied to predict soil chemical properties. The regression rules model (Cubist) showed the best results among these, with lower error on the calibration data. For quantitatively determining OM, total acidity, CEC, a VIS-NIR spectroscopy could be used as a routine method if the estimation quality is more improved.

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) are widely distributed in the environment and are often implicated as potential carcinogens. The chromatographic methods of detection and quantitative determination of PAHs in environmental samples are costly, time consuming, and do not account for all kinds of PAHs. This work describes a quantitative spectroscopic method for the analysis of mixtures of eight PAHs using multivariate calibration models for Fourier transform near infrared(FT-NIR) spectral data. The NIR spectra of mixtures of PAHs (anthracene, pyrene, 1,2-benzanthracene, perylene, chrysene, benzo(a)pyrene, 1-methylanthracene and benzo(ghi)perylene) were measured in the wavelength range from 1100 nm to 2500 nm. The spectral data were processed using a partial least squares regression. We have studied the spectral characteristics of NIR spectra of mixtures of PAHs. It was possible to determine each PAM used in this study at the environmental level(mg L-1) in the laboratory samples. Further development may lead to the rapid determination of more PAHs in typical environmental samples.
