Development of a VR Juggler-based Virtual Reality Interface for Scientific Visualization Application (과학적 가시화 어플리케이션을 위한 VR Juggler 기반 가상현실 인터페이스 개발)

  • In this paper, we introduce a virtual reality interface for scientific visualization applications. Our VR interface is based on an open-source framework called VR Juggler. Although VR Juggler has its own advantages, it lacks some of the important functionalities needed for practical applications - event handling, synchronization and data sharing among cluster nodes, to name a few. We explain how these issues are resolved while developing the VR interface. Also, a new interface with a smart device, which replaces the virtual reality input device, is introduced. Finally, system usability test results are provided to prove the effectiveness of the proposed interfaces.

  • As the development of technology advances at exceptional speed, the functions of wearable devices become more diverse and complicated, and many users find some of the functions difficult to use. In this paper, the main aim is to provide the user with an interface that is more friendly and easier to use. The speech recognition is easy to use and also easy to insert an input order. However, speech recognition is problematic when using on a wearable device that has limited computing power and battery. The wearable device cannot predict when the user will give an order through speech recognition. This means that while speech recognition must always be activated, because of the battery issue, the time taken waiting for the user to give an order is impractical. In order to solve this problem, we use gesture recognition. This paper describes how to use both speech and gesture recognition as a multimodal interface to increase the user's comfort.

Design of a New Audio Watermarking System Based on Human Auditory System (청각시스템을 기반으로 한 새로운 오디오 워터마킹 시스템 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a robust digital copyright-protection technique based on the concept of human auditory system. First, we propose a watermarking technique that accepts the various attacks such as, time scaling, pitch shift, add noise and a lot of lossy compression such as MP3, AAC WMA. Second, we implement audio PD(portable device) for copyright protection using proposed method. The proposed watermarking technique is developed using digital filtering technique. Being designed according to critical band of HAS(human auditory system), the digital filers embed watermark without nearly affecting audio quality. Before processing of digital filtering, wavelet transform decomposes the input audio signal into several signals that are composed of specific frequencies. Then, we embed watermark in the decomposed signal (0kHz~11kHz) by designed band-stop digital filer. Watermarking detection algorithm is implemented on audio PD(portable device). Proposed watermarking technology embeds 2bits information per 15 seconds. If PD detects watermark '11', which means illegal song. PD displays "Illegal Song" message on LCD, skips the song and plays the next song, The implemented detection algorithm in PD requires 19 MHz computational power, 7.9kBytes ROM and 10kBytes RAM. The suggested technique satisfies SDMI(secure digital music initiative) requirements of platform3 based on ARM9E core.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors of action and reaction through the examples of luminescence digital fashion design, which is a part of the interactive digital paradigm in 21st century, and to classify types of interaction expressed in luminescence digital fashion design. The significance of this study is to provide an effective database for researches on new ideas and expression methods of fashion design using luminescence digital device. The contents are as follows. First, identifying the concepts of interaction, digital fashion, and luminescence digital device. Second, analyzing the factors that put the luminescence digital device into effect through materials such as the collected photos and the stimulus behind the materials. Third, analyzing and classifying types of reaction according to the types of stimulus in luminescence digital fashion design. Detailed use of luminescence digital devices in Fashion designs did not start until after 2000 so the scope of this study starts from 2000 and on. The methods of this study are as follows. The theoretical frameworks of digital fashion and interaction were setup by using information from various related books, papers, and internet sites. In addition, the empirical analysis was performed using collected photos and explanations through related Internet sites of digital fashion. Through the study, the interaction types in 21st century's luminescence digital fashion design can be expressed variously according to the current input type, biometric recognition type, environment recognition type.

The implementation of the Remote Control and Measurement Systems using CDMA Modem (CDMA 모뎀을 이용한 원격 제어 및 계측 시스템 구현)

  • This paper deals with the design and development of the remote control and measurement systems using CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) data modem. We propose a bi-directional data communication link without the public IP address in CDMA modem device by the TCP/IP packet and SMS(Short Message Service) communication. The remote control and measurement systems are implemented by a Telit WM-800 modem as DCE(Data Communication Equipment), and Atmel AT89C51 microcontroller as DTE(Data Terminal Equipment). The user application software for the control and measurement system user, and the firmware software of device drivers for peripherals such as a digital input/output device, AD/DAC(Analog to Digital/Digital to Analog Converter), LCD, and temperature/humidity sensor are written in Microsoft C and Keil C language respectively for further various applications. The experimental result of the proposed control and measurement systems implemented in this paper is evaluated via real-time experiments, which works well as designed.

  • High performance plastic optical fiber (POF) $N{\times}N$ star couplers are implemented based on fusing and combining technology. A set of cladding-removed POFs are fused into a solid body by heating and pressing them together to form the transition region between the input and output sides. The operation principle of the proposed star coupler is explained based on ray optics. To demonstrate the performance of the device, $2{\times}2$, $4{\times}4$ and $6{\times}6$ type POF couplers were fabricated and characterized. Performances of the POF star couplers were evaluated in terms of the flatness of the coupling ratios and excess losses.

  • This paper shows the more improved design of MRI receiver compared to conventional one based on Elscint Spectrometer. At first, the low-cost ADC is 16 bits, 3MHz sampling A/D converter Comparing to conventional one with signal bits of 14 bits, this device with those of 16 bits helps getting Improved the image resolution improved. If frequency is designed centering around 7.6 MHz to be satisfied in 10 MHz of maximum input bandwidth of ADC. For 1st demodulation, fixed IF is used for the purpose of the implementing multi nuclei system. Control parts & partial digital parts are integrated on one chip(FPGA). In DDC(Digital Down Converter), we got required bandwidth of LPF by controlling its decimation rate. With above considerations, we designed optimal receiver for high resolution imaging to be implemented through PC interface & experimental test of receiver of MRI after receiver's fabrication.

  • The adaptive learning circuit is designed the basis of modeling of MFSFET (Metal-Ferroelectric-Semiconductor FET) and the numerical results is analyzed. The output frequency of the adaptive learning circuit is inversely proportioned to the source-drain resistance of MFSFET and the capacitance of the circuit. The output frequency modulation of the adaptive learning circuit is investigated by analyzing the source-drain resistance of MFSFET as functions of imput pulse numbers in the adaptive learning circuit and the dimensionality factor of the ferroelectric thin film. From the results, the frequency modulation characteristics of the adaptive learning circuit, that is, adaptive learning characteristics which means a gradual frequency change of output pulse with the progress of input pulse are confirmed.

  • Magnetocardiography is a very weak biomagnetic field generated from the heart. Since the magnitude of the biomagnetic field is in the order of a few pico Tesla, it is measured with a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). SQUID is a transducer converting magnetic flux to voltage, however, its range of linear conversion is very restricted. In order to overcome the narrow dynamic range. a flux locked loop is used to feedback the output field with opposite polarity to the input field so that the total Held becomes zero. This prevents the operating point of the SQUID from moving too far away from the null point thereby escape from the linear region. In this paper, an emulator for the SQUID sensor and feedback coil is proposed. Magnetic courting between the original field and the generated field by the feedback coil is emulated by electronic circuits. By using the emulator, FLL circuits are analyzed and optimized without SQUID sensors. The emulator may be used as a test signal for multi-channel gain calibration and system maintenance.

  • 본 논문은 두 대의 카메라로 제안하는 물체의 색상, 움직임, 형태상의 특성을 이용하여 3차원 공간상의 움직임을 실시간으로 추출하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 물체는 구조상 물체 자체가 캘리브레이션 물체의 역할을 포함하여 캘리브레이션이 되지 않은 상황에서도 정확하게 물체의 3차원 정보를 추출할 수 있으므로 3차원 입력 디바이스로 이용할 수 있다. 3차원 움직임을 추출하기 위해 먼저 3차원 공간상의 물체와 좌우 영상의 상관관계를 구하고 좌우 즉 영상에서 원이 위치할 탐색영역은 MAWUPC 알고리즘을 이용하여 예측한다. 탐색영역 안에서 PCA를 사용하여 원의 정확한 위치를 찾으며 좌우 영상에서 얻은 원의 위치와 스테레오 카메라의 기하학적 구조를 종합하여 3차원 움직임을 추출한다. 추출한 3차원 움직임은 가상환경에서 가상 물체의 움직임을 제어하는데 응용할 수 있다.
