This study presents empirical evidence of the benefit of viewing narrative video clips on embedded virtual reality (VR) websites of hotels to relieve travel anxiety. As the effectiveness of using VR functions to relieve travel anxiety has been shown, we proposed that a VR website enhanced with narrative video clips could relieve travelers' anxiety about accommodations by showing the important aspects of a hotel. Thus, we created a website with a narrative video showing the escape route from a hotel room and another narrative video showing the surrounding neighborhood. We then conducted experiments by having human subjects explore the enhanced VR website and fill out a questionnaire. The results confirmed our hypothesis that there is a statistically significant relationship between relief from travel anxiety and the use of narrative videos on embedded VR websites of hotels.
Purpose: Purpose of this study was to identify the effect of structured information on immediate preoperative anxiety and uncertainty for women undergoing total laparoscopic hysterectomy. Methods: Sixty women who were admitted for total laparoscopic hysterectomy were recruited at a university hospital in Gyeonggi-do from June to October 2014. Thirty women were assigned to either the experimental or the control group. Women in the experimental group were provided structured information, which consisted of visual and auditory materials about surgical preparation and process, practical experience on devices such as IV-PCA pump and Inspiro-meter and actual experience on route to go to the operating room. State-anxiety, uncertainty, and blood pressure and pulse rate as biological indicators were measured before and after the intervention to examine the effect. Results: Significant group differences were found on state anxiety, uncertainty, including ambiguity, inconsistency, and unpredictability at the holding area. There was a significant difference on pulse rate in the operating room between the two groups. Conclusion: Findings demonstrated that the structured information provided for women undergoing laparoscopic hysterectomy preoperatively was effective on immediate preoperative anxiety and uncertainty. Nurses may contribute to decreasing patients' anxiety and uncertainty by utilizing this structured information preoperatively.

This study measures library anxiety using K-LAS for senior users, who constitute the smallest part of a public library users group. According to the findings, the overall score of library anxiety was 2.95, which was higher than the score of university students and local residents measured in previous studies. It was analyzed that the anxiety score of 'Digital Information' factor was the highest. In addition, it was found that the anxiety score was high in the old age group and the low education level group. Senior users whose intention of visit was to attend a community class and frequency of visit was lower showed higher library anxiety. This study suggests a method to reduce library anxiety of senior users, based on the analysis findings.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of providing prostatic hypertrophy patients with information about an upcoming prostate biopsy procedure on their anxiety, depression, and sleep quality. Methods: Sixty-two participants were divided equally into an experimental and control group. Experiments were conducted from July 31, 2015, to March 30, 2016. After providing information, we evaluated anxiety, depression, and sleep quality using structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using chi-square tests, Fisher's exact tests, t-tests, and ANCOVA using SPSS. Results: The experimental group demonstrated significantly lower levels of anxiety and depression than the control group. The experimental group also demonstrated significantly higher sleep quality. Conclusion: Information on an upcoming prostate biopsy improved psychological outcomes in patients with prostatic hypertrophy. This education should be incorporated into nursing practice.
Purpose: This study was done to verify the effects of information using photographs on preoperative anxiety of children and their parents. Methods: Participants were 48 hospitalized children and their parents (48 pairs). In the experiment group (18 pairs) photographs were used with the children and parents to provide information before the child underwent an operation. Children and parents in control group (30 pairs) received regular care. Anxiety of children and their parents was measured using both a self-report and physiologic responses (heart rate and blood pressure). The data were analyzed using the SAS program. Results: Compared with the control group, self-reports of the experimental group indicated a significant difference in subjective anxiety. However, there was no decrease in physiologic anxiety as shown by heart rate and blood pressure in those in the experimental group as compared to the control group. Conclusions: Preoperative information using photographs were shown to be an effective method to reduce anxiety of children and their parents.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate how information using leaflet will affect anxiety of inpatients undergoing endoscopic examination. Methods: Non-equivalent control group with a pre-post test design was used. Subjects were selected from inpatients of D hospital in B city for endoscopic examination from May 1 to July 31, 2009. Forty subjects were assigned to either control or experimental group. The Leaflet developed by authors was used as an educational material. Johnson's visual analogue scale, blood pressure, and pulse were used to measure anxiety. Results: The experimental group informed with the leaflet showed less subjective anxiety than control group without the leaflet (p=.008). Experimental group informed with the leaflet showed less objective anxiety measured by systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and heart rate than control group without the leaflet (p=.004, .014, and .009, respectively). Conclusion: Giving information using leaflet to the patient before endoscopy may be applicable as a nursing intervention to reduce anxiety. Further studies are needed to generalize the results of this study.

To test the effectiveness of the preparatory audiovisual information with videotape, 34 patients with gastric cancer and who have scheduled for subtotal gastrectomy were studied with quasiexperimental research design. The subjects were selected from the 4 general surgical wards of one university hospital in Seoul, and assigned to experimental and control group conveniently. The videotaped information on the preparation and recovery for surgery was showed to the experimental subjects once before having operation. Data on the sleep and the state anxiety level before and after treatment day was collected with VSH sleep scale and STAI. The data was analyzed with t-test to test the effect of preparatory information and the Pearson's correlation to identify the correlation between anxiety and sleep. The results were summerized as follows : 1. After receiving the preparatory information, the level of anxiety of the experimental group was the same level as the initial, whereas that of the control group showed markedly increase. However no significant difference in anxiety between the two groups was found. 2. There was significant difference in sleep score between the experimental and the control group. 3. There was significant negative correlation between the state anxiety score and the sleep score. Based upon the above findings, this study concludes that preparatory information is effective to enhance sleep just prior to the surgery.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of visual information on nursing management to elderly total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used in this study. Participants of this study were 60 elderly patients with TKA admitted to one hospital: the control group (30) between July and September, 2013, and the experimental group (30) between April and July, 2013. Anxiety and uncertainty were determined at baseline and at 3 days after TKA in both groups. Results: Two days after the visual information, the experimental group showed a significant decrease in anxiety and uncertainty compared with the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study show that providing visual information was effective in decreasing postoperative patient anxiety and uncertainty in elderly TKA patients. Therefore, when an elderly patient is hospitalized for TKA, positive and systematic provision of visual information may provide a positive effect by reducing postoperative patient anxiety and uncertainty.

Today, online education is becoming more important. The effectiveness of online education has been measured by student satisfaction and the possibility of substituting offline education. This study proposes a plan to increase the effectiveness of education in a new form by using online information. Education is the process of socializing and growing learners. Representative negative emotions experienced by learners are stress, anxiety, and depression (SAD). A reduction in SAD will promote student growth and improve educational outcomes. This paper considers online information by dividing it into online educational information support (OEDIS) and online emotional information support (OEMIS). We demonstrate that OEDIS reduces SAD, and OEMIS reduces stress and anxiety. By providing online information, negative emotions can be reduced, and educational outcomes can be improved. This study suggests a new role for online information support, such as emotional change in individuals and solving psychological problems. Online information support goes beyond knowledge transfer and can be used in various fields, such as online education that promotes human growth and positive change, and even healthcare.
