  • There are currently about 6000 bacterial species with validly published names, but scientists assume that these may be less than 1% of bacterial species present on the earth. Microbial resource is one of the most important bioresources in bioinderstry and provides us with high economic values. To find missing ones, the studies of metagenome, metabolome, and proteome about microbes have started recently in developed countries. We construct the information system that integrates information on microbial genome resources and manages the information to support efficient research of microbial genome application, and name this system 'Bio-Meta Information System (Bio-MIS)'. Bio-MIS consists of integrated microbial genome resources database, microbial genome resources input system, integrated microbial genome resources search engine, microbial resources on-line distribution system, portal service and management via internet. In the future, we will include public database connection and implement useful bioinformatics software for analyzing microbial genome resources. The web-site is accessible at http://biomis.probionic.com

  • This paper aims to determine the preference and use of electronic information and resources by blind/visually impaired users in the leading National Capital Region (NCR) libraries of India. Survey methodology has been used as the basic research tool for data collection with the help of questionnaires. The 125 in total users surveyed in all the five libraries were selected randomly on the basis of willingness of the users with experience of working in digital environments to participate in the survey. The survey results were tabulated and analyzed with descriptive statistics methods using Excel software and 'Stata version 11'. The findings reveal that ICT have a positive impact in the lives of people with disabilities as it helps them to work independently and increases the level of confidence among them. The Internet is the most preferred medium of access to information among the majority of blind/visually impaired users. The 'Complexity of content available on the net' is found as the major challenge faced during Internet use by blind users of NCR libraries. 'Audio books on CDs/DVDs and DAISY books' are the most preferred electronic resources among the majority of blind/visually impaired users. This study will help the library professionals and organizations/institutions serving people with disabilities to develop effective library services for blind/visually impaired users in the digital environment on the basis of findings on information usage behavior in the study.

  • Needs for up-to-date research information in various academic and research organizations are rapidly increasing in our country. It requires that researchers utilize worldwide information networks such as Internet to obtain recent information. In this study, various information searching tools and services available on Internet are investigated and information resources, especially scholarly resources, are explored using WAIS, WWW. Gopher, and OPACs. These information resources are analyzed to evaluate the value of Internet as a research network.

  • The emergence of computer-based information society has fundamentally changed the paradigms of everyday human life and will continue its trend in the 21st century when resources of information technology become more and more important because they can be directly transformed into military use. Future warfare will include such high-tech weapon systems as precision-guided munitions and satellite. But, with the spread of internet and advances in information technology, cyber space appears to be resources can be deciding factor in winning future war. In this paper we proposed to identify core information technology in national defense, improve mobilizing method of information resources in time of crisis, come up with combat effective measures utilizing information technology by estimating future information technological developments.

  • Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and evaluate discovery layer search tools for retrieval of legal information in Indian law libraries. This paper covers current practices in legal information retrieval with special reference to Indian academic law libraries, and analyses its importance in the domain of law.Design/Methodology/Approach. A web survey and observational study method are used to collect the data. Data related to the discovery tools were collected using email and further discussion held with the discovery layer/ tool /product developers and their representatives.Findings. Results show that most of the Indian law libraries are subscribing to bundles of legal information resources such as Hein Online, JSTOR, LexisNexis Academic, Manupatra, Westlaw India, SCC web, AIR Online (CDROM), and so on. International legal and academic resources are compatible with discovery tools because they support various standards related to online publishing and dissemination such as OAI/PMH, Open URL, MARC21, and Z39.50, but Indian legal resources such as Manupatra, Air, and SCC are not compatible with the discovery layers. The central index is one of the important components in a discovery search interface, and discovery layer services/tools could be useful for Indian law libraries also if they can include multiple legal and academic resources in their central index. But present practices and observations reveal that discovery layers are not providing facility to cover legal information resources. Therefore, in the present form, discovery tools are not very useful; they are an incomplete and half solution for Indian libraries because all available Indian legal resources available in the law libraries are not covered.Originality/Value. Very limited research or published literature is available in the area of discovery layers and their compatibility with legal information resources.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze demands and important level of rural amenity resources information in rural development consulting. For this study, the questionnaire survey was implemented to regional development consulting companies and organizations with three parts. The first part is about the methodologies in using for the rural development consulting, particularly, the collect processes of the amenity resources information and methods to establish development strategy are included in the questionnaire. In second part, essential factors for constructing the information system of rural amenity resources are investigated. Finally, the rural development project types were classified, and performed an analysis of important level for the rural amenity resources utilizing AHP technique. According to results of this study survey, the demands from residents are the most important factor for establishing rural development plan, and the relationship among neighboring regions and the amounts of rural amenity resources are also considered as important factors. The most important rural amenity resources are different as rural development project types.

  • This study attempts to investigate the current practice of electronic resources in the academic libraries and to explore the changes of paradigm in the organization of information. It reviewed how academic libraries have acquired and organized electronic resources. It also investigated the library home pages of 30 academic libraries in order to identify the category of electronic resources, metadata, and linkage methods with various material types such as printed resources and theses. To perform extended functions of library catalogs, it is essential for academic libraries to manage the metadata of various resources together and provide enhanced access and linkage of related resources.

  • A digital library could be understood as not a part of information cycling, but whole process of information production, circulation and reproduction. This study suggests that a digital library should be a creator as which it is publishing, circulating, and re-producing the information resources. Therefore, the role of intrinsic DRM (Digital Resources Management) can be interpreted as a digital library. Open access model have been already adopted to many university libraries, many university libraries are publishing free access online research resources by themselves. Also, research collection based on cloud computing can be extended to networked research collection and share with other university libraries. These evidences show future library can be the digital library with online and open accessible publishing function.

  • FHIR, next-generation standard for health information exchange, allows to exchange health information fast and to provide various health services. In this paper, we propose an indexing scheme of FHIR resources for adopting the resources to wireless data broadcasting with a secure channel. That scheme keeps the information of users to support to download FHIR resources from the secure wireless broadcast channel and the information on the resources. Using the proposed index, massive users can download their desired FHIR resources with less energy in short time. With simulation studies, we show the proposed indexing scheme outperforms other scheme broadcasting FHIR resources.

  • A cross sectional survey method was used to determine the utilization of e-resources and their influence on the reading culture of 119 undergraduate students registered with the JD Amin library of Federal University Dutse. The data collected was analysed using both descriptive (frequency counts and means) and inferential statistics (regression analysis). The research found that databases (mean=4.00) and e-journal (mean=4.00) are available to the undergraduate students. It further found that e-resources are often utilized by the undergraduate student, with social media (mean=4.00), databases (mean=4.00) and e-journal (mean=4.00). the most commonly used e-resources. It was also found that erratic power supply (mean=3.91) and inability to seek, obtain and evaluate information (mean=3.67) are the prominent factors hindering the utilization of e-resources. The regression analysis rejected the null hypotheses of the study where it shows that the level of utilization of e-resources have positive statistical correlation (r=0.772) with the reading culture of undergraduate students. The study proposed a conceptual model for the sustainable reading culture of students by libraries providing of e-resources. The general conclusion of the research is that e-resources are necessary tools and are moderately available and adequately utilized for influencing reading culture. The study recommended that Internet facilities should be made available to undergraduate students to facilitate more utilization of e-resources.
