  • Currently it is increasingly commercialized "Mirror Display" is installed the mirror in front of Beauty salon chairs, cosmetic corner and shopping corner of the large department stores. It can go out on to earn additional revenue by showing advertising with a particular service. Speaking conventional mirror were used simply for the purpose of seeing yourself, in this paper, "Mirror Display" provides Weather forecast, Calender, time, Traffic information and important news according to the user's setting by downsizing this at home. Also by combining these technologies, by showing the information required in the 3D output method it will be able to maximize the nature of the mirror. "Hologram Mirror Display" is implemented to raise user satisfaction.

  • The paper deals with the selection of 3D display devices in accordance with the user's conveniences and accuracy of spatial information by applying 3D display devices to Spatial Information Update System (SIUS) which generate edit and update digital thematic maps. After applying different manufacturer's 3D display devices to SIUS, aerial images acquired from the stereo images were displayed through the devices and spatial information was extracted from the displayed 3D images. Assessment of 3D display devices were based on quantitative and qualitative analysis on accuracy of spatial information and user's conveniences. Planar's PL2020 and Redrover's Tru3Di 3D monitor has expressed outstanding display environment in 3D related tasks for the generation of spatial information compared to other 3D display devices. System improvement is expected regarding accuracy of spatial information, work efficiency and user's conveniences.

  • Among the human senses, olfactory information still does not have a proper data presentation method unlike that regarding vision and auditory information. It makes presenting the sense of smell into multimedia information impossible, which may be an exploratory field in human computer interaction. In this paper, we propose an olfactory information presentation method, which is a way to use smell as multimedia information, and show an application for scent generation and odor display using a web service. The olfactory information can present smell characteristics such as intensity, persistence, hedonic tone, and odor description. The structure of data format based on olfactory information can also be organized according to data types such as integer, float, char, string, and bitmap. Furthermore, it can be used for data transmitting via a web service and for odor display using a scent generator. The scent generator, which can display information of smell, is developed to generate 6 odors using 6 aroma solutions and a diluted solution with 14 micro-valves and a micropump. Throughout the experiment, we confirm that the remote user can grasp information of smell transmitted by messenger service and request odor display to the computer controlled scent generator. It contributes to enlarge existing virtual reality and to be proposed as a standard reference method regarding olfactory information presentation for future multimedia technology.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the priority of information presentation and the effective menu type to be placed in the center of a gauge cluster display for commercial trucks and to present a set of ergonomic designs for the gauge cluster display. Background: An effective ergonomic design is specifically needed for the development of the gauge cluster display for the commercial trucks, because more diverse and heavier information is delivered to truck drivers, compared to the information to passenger car drivers. Method: First, all the information that must be shown on the commercial truck display was collected. Then, the severity, frequency of use, and display design parameters were evaluated for those information by commercial truck drivers. Next, an analysis on the information attributes and the heuristic evaluation utilizing the display design principles were carried out. According to the results, a design alternative of the main screen to be displayed was constructed by priority. A comparative analysis between the alternative and existing main screens was also conducted to see the efficacy of the designs. Lastly, we conducted an experiment for the selection of menu type. The experiment was conducted using the driving simulator with an eye-tracking device. The independent variables were four types of the menu reflecting the commercial truck characteristics such as grid type, icon type, list type, and flow type. We measured preference, total execution time, the total duration of fixation on the gauge cluster area, and the total number of fixation on the gauge cluster area as dependent variables. Results: Four types of driver convenience information and six types of driver assistance information were selected as the information to be placed primarily on the main screen of the gauge cluster. The Grid type was the most effective among the menu types. Conclusion: In this study, the information that appears on the main screen of the display, the division of the display and the design of the menu type for commercial truck drivers were suggested. Application: This study is expected to be utilized as guidelines on the ergonomic design of a gauge cluster display for commercial trucks.

  • An advanced microcolumn is proposed which adopts a modified einzel lens structure. The newly designed einzel lens is composed of four electrodes. The two center electrodes are specially designed electrostatic quadrupole (EQ) einzel lenses having keyhole instead of circular apertures. We constructed the advanced microcolumn with the EQ-einzel lenses, and operated the newly designed microcolumn in single lens mode and double-lens mode. The preliminary results show that the EQ-einzel lens can improve the performance of the micro-column for large sample applications.

  • We have demonstrated highly efficient WOLED with two separated emissive layers using a blue fluorescent dye and a red phosphorescent dye. The maximum luminous efficiency of the device was 11.2 cd/A at $20\;mA/cm^2$ and $CIE_{x,y}$ coordinates varied from (x = 0.33, y = 0.37) at 6V to (x = 0.25, y = 0.33) at 14V.
