Purpose - This study attempts to provide a new theoretical perspective on the quality signaling and its impact on a market under information asymmetry, focusing on how the accuracy and the cost of quality signaling affect sellers' and buyers' profit, suggesting appropriate designs of quality signaling methods which mitigates information asymmetry. Design/methodology/approach - In order to examine the effect of quality signaling on strategic interactions within the market, we establish an analytic model where market outcomes are determined by seller's quality claim and price, and buyers are risk-neutral. By investigating this analytic model through relevant game trees, we find the subgame perfect Nash equilibria of the market and predict related market outcomes based on sellers' quality signaling strategy. Findings - Our analytic model shows counterintuitive results that seller profit will be the lowest with inaccurate quality signaling and the highest with no quality signaling, mostly due to the certification cost. Consequently, sellers should proceed with caution if the quality signaling is less than accurate, as it may backfire. We believe that this is due to the fact that the inaccuracy of quality signaling causes some confusion and uncertainty in both sellers and buyers' decision to maximize profit, making it hard for sellers to predict buyers' behavior. Research implications or Originality - Although the sources and types of quality signaling errors have been investigated in the literature, there has not been satisfactory understanding regarding how inaccuracy of quality certification affects specific market outcomes. We expect that our theoretical model would provide important implications on how to utilize quality signaling to solve adverse selection issues in markets under information asymmetry.
Recently, as cases of organizations' information disclosure occur continuously, it is urgent to manage security of information and establish measures to enhance security of information by an organization itself. Especially, members of an organization should be prepared with measures for information security, and an organization should do its efforts to raise its members' awareness toward information security. I set a research model to verify what effects an organization's fulfillment of regulations to secure information brings to performance of information security and selected members from maritime and port organizations and financial and insurance institutes as sample. Results of the analysis to identify factors affecting information security performance among members of maritime and port organizations are as follows. Firstly, I found that the factors affecting information security awareness are information security attitude and information security standards. Secondly, the factor giving influence on information security policy of an organization was found to be information security standards. In contrast, information security punishments and information security training were verified not to give influence on compliance of information security policy. Thirdly, information security awareness was identified to give significant influence on compliance of information security policy, information security competence and information security behavior. Fourthly, compliance of information security policy was verified to be those factors that give influence on information security competence and information security behavior. Lastly, information security competence and information security behavior were found to be such factors that give influence on information security performance.

Electronic paper resources management becomes an important alternative to overcome the inefficiency of various dysfunctions and pathologies dependent upon bureaucratic paperworks and to enhance organizational competitiveness. Korean government and enterprises have less recognized the importance of electronic document management and ignored the merits of introducing information technology into organizations. By means of document and paper exchange, decision making and signature, mail and bulletin board systems, information disclosure and sharing using electronic technology, however, electronic document management system can enhance organizational performance on a considerable degree. In this sense, it is necessary to introduce the system as soon as possible. Several measures are required : revising related laws and regulations, reforming the sense and behavior of personnel, establishing technological basis of the system, standardizing word processors and document formats.
The purpose of this study is to examine how the characteristics of family firms affect stock price crash risk. Prior studies argued that the opacity of information due to agency problem causes a plunge in stock prices. The governance characteristics of family firms can increase information opacity which leads to crash risk. Therefore, this study verifies whether family firms have a high possibility of stock price crash risk. We use a logistic regression model to test the relationship between family firms and stock price crash risk using listed firms listed on the Korean Stock Exchange during the fiscal years 2011 through 2017. The family firm is defined as the case where the controlling shareholder is the chief executive officer or the registered executive. If the controlling shareholder's share is less than 5%, it is not considered a family business. We found that family firms are more likely to experience a plunge in stock prices. This supports the hypothesis of this study that passive information disclosure behavior and information opacity of family firms increase stock price crash risk.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine whether key audit matters (KAMs) readability influences investor reaction. Research design, data, and methodology: The signaling theory was applied to explain the behavior of investors when they receive useful information for their decisions. Data were collected from 1,866 firm-year observations from Thai listed companies in both the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and the Market for Alternative Investment (MAI) for the fiscal years of 2016-2019. The study was based on secondary data, which were collected from the SET Market Analysis and Reporting Tool (SETSMART) database and the Stock Exchange of Thailand's website (www.set.or.th). A statistical regression method was used with panel data analysis to evaluate possible associations between KAMs readability and investor reaction. The study relied on popular readability measures (Fog Index). Moreover, investor reaction was measured by absolute cumulative abnormal return and abnormal trading volume. Results: It was found that the KAMs readability has positive significance on both absolute cumulative abnormal return and abnormal trading volume. Conclusion: This study showed a significant contribution to the implication of KAMs in an emerging economy. The results reveal that more readable KAMs disclosure distributed new insights and useful information to investors and led to reducing the information gap between auditors and investors.
This paper examines the opportunistic behavior of corporate insiders and analyzes the relationship between equity change and the possibility of delisting. The findings are summarized as follows. First, the larger the stake reduction of insider, the greater the negative excess return after announcement. In the delisting firm group, there is a significant decrease in equity and statistically significant results in the difference test between the comparative groups. The logistic regression analysis showed that the regression coefficient of equity change was negatively statistically significant, indicating a significant correlation between insider share change and the possibility of delisting. These findings are expected not only to provide useful information for investors, but also to be evidence of capital market information asymmetry.
This study aims to investigate the gamification effect of the badge awards, the most popular gamification process, on users participation behavior. This study also attempts to investigate the effect of tailored gamification, which designs the system of gamification differently based on users' characteristics, focusing on the level of online user information disclosure. For this, we collect and analyze data on 557 users and 1,048,020 answers from StackOverflow, an online Q&A community for developers. The results show that providing a badge is effective for increasing the amount of user participation, whereas providing a goal through the badge is partially effective for increasing the quality of participation. However, the moderating effect of whether users disclose their SNS information on the relationship between badge gaining and participation decrease is not statistically significant. For platform operators, our findings emphasize the importance of gamification design to enhance user engagement effectively.
Purpose - This study examines Chinese P2P investment decision processes from a behavioral economics approach. Research design, data, and methodology - We analyze the online P2P investment product purchase decisions of 241 respondents in China, March 2015 to May 2015. T-tests were conducted to determine whether the framing effect influenced investor investment preferences. The Association Rule was used to identify the framing effect of respondent demographic characteristics on joint decisions regarding stable or risky investment products. Results - There are significant differences between the two groups (positive framing and negative framing) and their product-choosing behavior. In the positive framing group, female investors, young investors, investors with non-financial occupations and with limited or no experience, preferred stable P2P investment products. In contrast, in the negative framing group, investors with extensive investment experience preferred risky investment products. Conclusions - The framing effect influences investor choices in online P2P investment products. It is necessary to implement comprehensive supervision and full information disclosure regarding P2P investment products. P2P investment websites can also adopt different marketing strategies according to investor gender and age.
We analyze the information asymmetry in the capital market by examining the long-term performance by the insider's trading behavior in the companies that made investment announcements for the construction of the new office building. The results are summarized as follows. On average, the long-term abnormal returns on share prices of sample firms represent a significant positive value. The regression analysis confirmed that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between the factor of the change in equity of large shareholders and the long-term performance. On the other hand, negative correlation was observed between change in equity of small individual investors and long-term performance. These results mean that an insider can determine the authenticity of a manager's private intention. In other words, it supports that the insider is in a position of information superiority. In addition, it is expected to provide practical usefulness to investors in that the change in equity can be used as a predictor of long-term performance.

This study recognized the public servants of the local governments as the principal users of the records centers. It also attempted to identify their records usage behavior and the requirements of record usage so that records and services that meet their needs as the main users would be met. Therefore, the researchers identified through an information disclosure request the highly ranked departments that use records more than the others based on their usage frequency of the records centers and the standard records management system (standard RMS) during the third quarter of 2017. A questionnaire survey was subsequently conducted to the public servants of the local governments in the metropolitan area. The questionnaire identified the users' opinion on general usage behavior, usage of standard RMS, and usage of the records center. Based on the survey results, improvements in the management of the records centers the record management system, and the record services of the local governments were suggested.
