This paper presents case studies on database Quality uSing an extended database Quality model developed by Korea Database Promotion Center, which shall be called KDPC2003. The model is applied to evaluate two kinds of databases ; one is an operational database, the other is an information service database. The purpose of this research is two-folded. One is to evaluate database quality and assess current status of database quality management; the other is to assess usefulness of KDPC2003 and to propose ideas for its augmentation. The findings in this study will provide basic facts to test database quality evaluation models.

Engineering database for CIM of injection mold production has been developed to manage design information and parameters of injection mold. The database has direct connection with product data management system and management database. Design specifications are generated in initial stage of mold design with integration of management information. Design parameters and bill of materials for mold base parts are generated during the CAD process and transferred to the manufacturing database and procurement system. Standard modules for parts and mold base are constructed using national standard and legacy data of industries. The engineering database provides important information route for CIM of injection mold design and production.

The purpose of this study is to analyze systematically the characteristics and types of contemporary houses and to offer information concerning houses based on web database. This study deals with single-unit Korean houses designed by modern architects, which appeared in architectural periodicals and books published since 1990. This study sets three analysis criteria : general characteristics, morphological characteristics and functional characteristics of houses. Also, the web database including analysis contents is constructed to attain various information of the houses and results. The process of constructing the web database and the search method for house information retrieval are described. It is concluded that contemporary houses show various aspects of their plans in certain specific types. By using web database we obtained various analysis on house plan. This study investigated practicality of web database in architecture, interior design and house studies, and the types of contemporary house plans are revealed as well.

With increasing the mont of processed information over the network, the importance of database system increases rapidly. There are two types of security system for database, access control and data encryption. However, it is hard to evaluate security of database systems using the Common Criteria(CC) as there is no protection profile(PP) for these systems. In this paper, we propose a protection profile for secure database systems which can be used in formal evaluation using the Common Criteria. The proposed protection profile can be used by both developer and consumer to evaluate security of database systems.

Bibliographic information-based MARC format is using in 66 countries, and it has been keeping the position of acknowledged information system in many national libraries. But the development of exchange format about integrated database to run integration the factual information and bibliographic information integrative is necessary. Actually factual information and bibliographic information are required frequently in the library. This paper was to extract the element field of factual information that will be expanded at the libraries, and to make the basic data of integrated database-based interactive format through comparative analysis of varied record format to be used around the world.

In this study, we analyzed applicability of object database, designed the concept model based on object-oriented idea for measurement data management, and applied the design model to object database. The concept model composes three sub models Infrastructure managing information model, Infrastructure measurement data model, and Measurement unit model. The process to expand measurement data of new type was executed easily without changing database schema in object database. Author outlines briefly developments of policies relating to telecommunication infrastructure and databases since latter half of 1970′s. There exist three phases. The first phase was from later 1970′s to 1985, which was an initial stage of electronic information service in Japan. In the second phase, 1985～1990, basic policy change made possible the privatization of telecommunication services and proliferation of database products and vendors, The third phase began in early 1990′s with downsizing in computer usage, wide-spreading information networks and rapid dissemination of personal computers. Then author describes offers on policy formation for "novel information infrastructure" and current situation concerning the "Internet" in Japan. Finally, tasks and problems for implementing new generation program for information infrastructure and database usage are pointed out, These are knowledge resource, cost, copyrights and cultural problems including language.

One of the most important issues in post-genome era is identifying functions of genes and understanding the interaction among them. Such interactions from complex biochemical pathways, which are very useful to understand the organism system. We present an integrated biochemical pathway database system with a set of software tools for reconstruction, visualization, and simulation of the pathways from the database. The novel features of the presented system include: (a) automatic integration of the heterogeneous biochemical pathway databases, (b) gene ontology for high quality of database in the integration and query (c) various biochemical simulations on the pathway database, (d) dynamic pathway reconstruction for the gene list or sequence data, (e) graphical tools which enable users to view the reconstructed pathways in a dynamic form, (f) importing/exporting SBML documents, a data exchange standard for systems biology.

Network security should be first considered in a distributed computing environment with frequent information interchange through internet. Clear classification is needed for information users should protect and for information open outside. Basically proper encrypted database system should be constructed for information security, and security policy should be planned for each site. This paper describes access control, user authentication, and User Security and Encryption technology for the construction of database security system from network users. We propose model of network encrypted database security system for combining these elements through the analysis of operational and technological elements. Systematic combination of operational and technological elements with proposed model can construct encrypted database security system secured from unauthorized users in distributed computing environment.
