Servo control system of electrostatic micro-actuator for micro robots

  • In mechanical systems in which the dynamics of armatures is dominated by electrostatic forces, motions will generally be unstable. This paper deals with the control problems of this kind of micro electrostatic device systems. In these systems, the mass of micro mechanical parts is so small that the inertia term in the equation of motion is negligible. However, nonlinear terms, such as friction and driving force, become dominant. The purpose of this paper is to realize the stable motion without delay and, overshoot etc. A micro-mechanical system used in this paper consists of a plane wafer with striped electrodes converted with an insulation layer and thin cylindrical roller is placed over on it. The performance of motions is confirmed by some simulations.

  • In this paper, the eigenvalue sensitivity of vehicle powertrain was investigated by analytic method. The powertrain system was considered as a rigid body with multiple engine mounts, and the engine mounts were supposed as three linear springs in three orthogonal directions. The design parameters for the sensitivity analysis were engine mount properties (positions, stiffness, and orientations) and powertrain properties (mass, second moment of inertia, and center of gravity). Firstly, an effective form of eigenvalue problem for the powertrain system was introduced. Then, the analytic sensitivity of eigenvalue was derived using the equation. Lastly, the derived sensitivity equation was applied to a real powertrain system to provide its correctness and applicability.

  • Static and oscillatory loss of stability of composite pipes conveying fluid is investigated. The theory of thin walled beams is applied and transverse shear, rotary inertia, primary and secondary warping effects are incorporated. The governing equations and the associated boundary conditions are derived through Hamilton's variational principle. The governing equations and the associated boundary conditions are transferred to eigenvalues problem which provides the information about the dynamic characteristics of the system. Numerical analysis is performed by using extended Gelerkin method. Critical velocity of fluid is investigated by increasing fiber angle and mass ratio of fluid to pipe including fluid.

  • A Precise actuator in the pick-up of a DVDR/P(Digital Video Disk Recorder/Player) is required to control position accurately. Therefore, in order to develop a reliable actuator, dynamic characteristics of each part in an actuator should be examined closely. This paper presents systematic design process of an actuator using various analysis methods to confirm fundamental capability and solve performance problems related to dynamic characteristics of an actuator beforehand. Particularly, sensitivity analysis is presented through the program using mass moment of inertia and general equations of rigid body. Through the result of sensitivity analysis, important inferiority causes of actuator are selected and reduced. In the end, dynamic characteristics of manufactured actuators are improved considerably.

  • A vibration analysis for a rotating cantilever beam with the tapered cross section is presented in this study. The stiffness changes due to the stretching caused by centrifugal inertia forces when a tapered cantilever beam rotates about the axis perpendicular to its longitudinal axis. When the cross section of cantilever beam are assumed to decrease constantly, the mass and stiffness also change according to the variation of the thickness and width ratio of a tapered cantilever beam. Such phenomena result in variations of natural frequencies and mode shapes. Therefore it is important to the equations of motion in order to be obtained accurate predictions of these variations. The equations of motion of a rotating tapered cantilever beam are derived by using hybrid deformation variable modeling method and numerical results are obtained along with the angular velocity and the thickness and width ratio.

Dynamic analysis of trusses including the effect of local modes

  • The dynamic analysis of trusses using the finite element method tends to overlook the effect of local member dynamic behavior on the overall response of the complete structure. This is due to the fact that the lateral inertias of the members are omitted from the global inertia terms in the structure mass matrix. In this paper a condensed dynamic stiffness matrix is formulated and used to calculate the exact dynamic properties of trusses without the need to increase the model size. In the examples the limitations of current solutions are presented together with the exact results obtained from the proposed method.

Isogeometric Analysis of Laminated Plates under Free Vibration

  • A plate element is developed by using isogeometric approach in order to determine natural frequencies of laminated composite plates. Reissner-Mindlin (RM) assumptions is adopted to consider the shear deformation and rotatory inertia effect. All terms required in isogeometric element formulation are consistently derived by using Non-uniform rational B-spline surface (NURBS) definition. Gauss quadrature rule is used to form the element stiffness matrix and separately Lobatto quadrature rule is used to calculate element mass matrix. The capability of the present plate element is demonstrated by using numerical examples. From numerical tests, the present isogeometric element produces reliable numerical results for both thin and thick plate situations.

  • This paper presents a new control scheme using a sliding mode controller with a multilayer neural network for the robot manipulator operating under the sea which has large uncertainties such as the buoyancy and the added mass/moment of inertia. The multilayer neural network using the error back propagation loaming algorithm acts as a compensator of the conventional sliding mode controller to improve the control performance when the initial assumptions of uncertainty bounds are not valid. Computer simulation results show that the proposed control scheme gives an effective path way to cope with the unexpected large uncertainties in the underwater robot manipulator.

  • For a shear-deformable beam-column element subjected to non-conservative forces. equations of motion and a finite element formulation are presented applying extended Hamilton's principle. The influence of non-conservative force's direction parameter. internal and external damping forces, and shear deformation and rotary inertia effects on divergence and flutter loads of Beck's columns are intensively investigated based on element stiffness. damping and mass matrixes derived for the non-conservative system.

산업용 고속절단기의 기동 시 충격완화에 대한 연구 (A Study on Vibration Reduction of an Industrial Chop Saw in Operation)

  • In this paper, a cause of a shock of an industrial chop saw is identified by experimental method and the shock is reduced by structural modifications. For the shock identification, vibration signals are measured by an accelerometer when the chop saw operates. Through some experiments, it is found that the shock is occurred by a slip between a spindle and a wheelwasher of the chop saw. To reduce the shock, One method is to lower the mass moment of inertia of the wheelwasher and the angular rotating acceleration of it. Another method is to broaden a contact area between the wheelwasher and the spindle. After designing and analyzing the wheelwasher and the spindle mechanically, a prototype of them is built. With the manufactured prototype, the performances and design requirements of them are experimentally verified by the response measurements.
