Worker-Centered Design for Working Area in the Electronic Industry

  • Objective: This research provides a guideline for working area design in the electronic industry, considering gender differences of physical characteristics. Background: Co-work in the electronic industry requires workers of various physical properties to work cohesively in the conveyor line for mass production. This stresses the need for a worker-centered design of the workplace convenient for all the workers. Method: In this research, the $6^{th}$ Size Korea (National Anthropometric Survey in Korea) report is referred to obtain the design measurements according to age and gender varieties. This information is used to provide the working area guideline concerning conveyor line workers of both genders aged 20 to 40. Results: Physical properties of workers and workplace design principles were obtained for application in the assembly, inspection, and material handling process in the electronic industry. Conclusion: Applying ergonomic design principles can provide safe and comfortable workplace for both genders. Application: This research can be fundamentally used in designing worker-centered workplaces.

  • Today it is critical for all engineers to have the capability of interacting in teams with members of different background and to meet the challenges that they will encounters in their careers. To satisfy such needs multidisciplinary engineering-design courses are attracting more attentions than ever in the engineering education community. In this paper we analyze the learning effectiveness of interdisciplinary design teams in an engineering design course in Dongguk University. The comparison analysis between monodisciplinary teams and interdisciplinary ones demonstrates higher learning effectiveness of interdisciplinary teams. In addition, the student evaluation of learning effectiveness points out that communication skill is one of the most important factors for a successful project. Such results show that multidisciplinary design courses must gain wider acceptance in engineering education and engineering students must have more chances to experience multidisciplinary teamwork.

Case Study for Casting Design of Automobile Part(Gear Box) Using CAE (CAE를 이용한 자동차용 부품(Gear Box)의 주조방안 설계에 대한 사례연구)

  • When manufacturing die casting mold, generally, the casting layout design should be considered based on the relation among injection system, casting condition, gate system, and cooling system. Also, the extent or the location of product defects was differentiated according to the various relations of the above conditions. In this research, in order to optimize casting design of an automobile part (Gear Box) Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) was performed by using the simulation software (Z Cast). The simulation results were analyzed and compared with experimental results. During the mold filling, internal porosities caused by air entrap were predicted and reduced remarkably by the modification of the gate system and the configuration of overflow. With the solidification analysis, internal porosities caused by the solidification shrinkage were predicted and reduced by the modification of the gate system. For making a better production die casting tool, cooling systems on several thick areas are proposed in order to reduce internal porosities caused by the solidification shrinkage.

  • This paper was concerned about design and implementation of supply chain management for auto-part company by adopting a UML(Unified Modeling Language). The part of SCM and e-business have interested by larger company, researcher and academic professor. There has been known about a little implementing SCM and it's initiatives for SME(small-medium sized enterprise). We, in this paper, dealt with design and implementing the SCM on supply chain auto part SMEs. The UML is a standard language for specifying, visualizing, constructing, and documenting the artifacts of software systems. It simplifies the complex process of software design, making a blueprint for the SCM implementation. In this paper, we also adopt some methods for the systematic system analysis, design, and implementation by applying UML to a SCM system.

  • Control chart is representative tool of Statistical Process Control (SPC). But, it is not given information about the economic loss that occurs when a product is produced characteristic value does not match the target value of the process. In order to manage the process, we should consider not only stability of the variation also produce products with a high degree of matching the target value that is most ideal quality characteristics. There is a need for process control in consideration of economic loss. In this paper, we design a new control chart using the quadratic loss function of Taguchi. And we demonstrate effectiveness of new control chart by compare its ARL with ${\overline{x}}-R$ control chart.

  • Purpose: To propose improved method for normalization, compare to the de facto international standard which is IESNA TM-21 or conventional normalization methods. Methods: Firstly, we analysed conventional methods and specified the problem of normalization method which is based on first measured data. Secondly, we proposed our approach which is based on the design specification. Lastly, we studied a real degradation data which is conducted for 15,000 hours. Conclusion: Proposed normalization method is better approach because it can reflect real data and design specification, and reduce distortion when analysing degradation data. Also, It is appliable to other long-life reliability items.

  • Vehicle routing problem is one of the traveling salesman problems with various conditions such as vehicle capacity limits, delivery time windows, as well as time dependent speeds in metropolitan area. In this research hourly vehicle moving speeds information in a typical metropolitan area are analyzed to use the results in the design procedure of VRP heuristic. Quality initial vehicle routing solutions can be obtained with adaption of the analysed results of the time periods with no vehicle speed changes. This strategy makes complicated time dependent vehicle speed simple to solve. Time dependent vehicle speeds are too important to ignore to obtain optimum vehicle routing search for real life logistics systems.

Case Study for Developing Automobile Part (Steering Wheel) using Vacuum Die-Casting Mold (진공다이캐스팅 공법을 이용한 자동차용 조향장치 개발에 대한 사례연구)

  • When manufacturing die casting mold, generally, the casting layout design should be considered based on the relation between injection system, casting condition, gate system, and cooling system. Also, the extent or the location of product defects were differentiated according to the various relations of the above conditions. High-qualified products can be manufactured as those defects are controled by the proper modifications or the changes of die casting mold with the conditions. In this research, the proper manufacturing method was derived intensively for reducing the defect of the internal porosity of steering wheel housing which is very complicated to achieve a good mold design. The method was also derived for minimizing and for guaranteeing the product quality through the analysis of the casting problem and the deduction of alternative plans.

A Study on the Forming Process Optimization of a Small Tube (소구경 관단 성형공정 최적화)

  • The end shape of tube for automobile power steering system has influence on the ability of performance. In this case study, we attempted to optimize the forming process of a small tube using Taguchi experimental design methodology. A preliminary experiment was conducted and four main control factors were selected. The experiment was set up as an $L_9(3^4)$ orthogonal array, and determined the optimal levels of the four factors through the analysis of the experimental results. As a result, the performance characteristic(close adhesion power) of the product was improved about 36%. In addition, the process capability index $C_{pk}$ is enhanced from 0.94 to 6.85.

  • 신제품 개발에 있어서 제품의 잠재적 고장모드를 줄이기 위한 설계 노력은 매우 중요하며 이를 위해서는 체계적이고 혁신적인 신뢰성프로그램을 적용하는 것이 반드시 필요하다. 기업에서 동시공학을 기초로 한 건전한 신뢰성프로그램에 포함된 주요활동으로는 DFR(Design for Reliability), 신뢰성검증 및 물리적 해석활동 등이 있으며, 이 중 DFR은 제품 개발을 지원하는 첫 번째 과학적 신뢰성활동이다. 본 연구는 브레이크패드의 신뢰성을 향상시키기 위하여 회사조직전체에서 여러 부서의 팀 구성원이 유기적으로 참여하는 DFR 프로세스를 조직하고 실행하는 전략과 기술에 대한 연구이다. 본 사례연구의 동기는 해당기업에서 DFR에 적용된 모든 도구와 기술을 통해 제품의 신뢰성을 향상시키고 동시에 글로벌시장의 잠재고객에 대하여 품질과 신뢰성에 대한 확신을 주는데 유용하게 활용하기 위함이다. 본 논문에서는 제품개발주기의 개념설계단계 부터 제품의 폐기까지의 DFR 개념 전개에 대하여 설명하고, 기술적 도구를 적용한 설계초기 단계에서의 분석사례를 제시하였다.
