This research suggests critical factors affecting success and failure of several commercial mobile operating systems from Palm OS appearing in to main mobile OSs appearing in 2013. For this, we analyses several mobile operating cases, elicit factors affecting success and failure of mobile OS, and conduct ID3 based inductive learning analyses based on elicited factors and values in case dataset. Through this, we draw rules in success and failure of mobile OS and suggest strategic implications for the commercial success of mobile OS in perspective of innovation and globalization.
Integration of GIS data and human expert knowledge into digital image processing has long been acknowledged as a necessity to improve remote sensing image analysis. We propose inductive machine learning algorithm for GIS data integration and rule-based classification method for land cover classification. Proposed method is tested with a land cover classification of a Landsat ETM+ multispectral image and GIS data layers including elevation, aspect, slope, distance to water bodies, distance to road network, and population density. Decision trees and production rules for land cover classification are generated by C5.0 inductive machine learning algorithm with 350 stratified random point samples. Production rules are used for land cover classification integrated with unsupervised ISODATA classification. Result shows that GIS data layers such as elevation, distance to water bodies and population density can be effectively integrated for rule-based image classification. Intuitive production rules generated by inductive machine learning are easy to understand. Proposed method demonstrates how various GIS data layers can be integrated with remotely sensed imagery in a framework of knowledge base construction to improve land cover classification.
Collaborative filtering systems grasp behaviors for a new user and need new information for the user in order to recommend interesting items to the user. For the purpose of acquiring the information the collaborative filtering systems learn behaviors for users based on the previous data and can obtain new information from the results. In this paper, we propose an inductive inference method to obtain new information for users and rank items by using the new information in the proposed method. The proposed method clusters users into groups by learning users through NMF among inductive machine learning methods and selects the group features from the groups by using chi-square. Then, the method classifies a new user into a group by using the bayesian probability model as one of inductive inference methods based on the rating values for the new user and the features of groups. Finally, the method decides the ranks of items by applying the Rocchio algorithm to items with the missing values.
The task of classification permeates all walks of life, from business and economics to science and public policy. In this context, nonlinear techniques from artificial intelligence have often proven to be more effective than the methods of classical statistics. The objective of knowledge discovery and data mining is to support decision making through the effective use of information. The automated approach to knowledge discovery is especially useful when dealing with large data sets or complex relationships. For many applications, automated software may find subtle patterns which escape the notice of manual analysis, or whose complexity exceeds the cognitive capabilities of humans. This paper explores the utility of a collaborative learning approach involving integrated models in the preprocessing and postprocessing stages. For instance, a genetic algorithm effects feature-weight optimization in a preprocessing module. Moreover, an inductive tree, artificial neural network (ANN), and k-nearest neighbor (kNN) techniques serve as postprocessing modules. More specifically, the postprocessors act as second0order classifiers which determine the best first-order classifier on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the second-order models, a voting scheme is investigated as a simple, but efficient, postprocessing model. The first-order models consist of statistical and machine learning models such as logistic regression (logit), multivariate discriminant analysis (MDA), ANN, and kNN. The genetic algorithm, inductive decision tree, and voting scheme act as kernel modules for collaborative learning. These ideas are explored against the background of a practical application relating to financial fraud management which exemplifies a binary classification problem.
Art historians and critics have defined the style as common features appeared in a class of objects. Abstract common features from a set of objects have been used as a bench mark for date and location of original works. Commonalities in shapes are identified by relationships as well as physical properties from shape descriptions. This paper will focus on how the computer and human can recognize common shape properties from a class of shape objects to learn design knowledge. Shape representation using schema theory has been explored and possible inductive generalization from shape descriptions has been investigated. Also learned shape knowledge can be used. for new design process as design concept. Several design process such as parametric design, replacement design, analogy design etc. are used for these design processes. Works of Mario Botta and Louis Kahn are analyzed for explicitly clarifying the process from conceptual ideas to final designs. In this paper, theories of computer science, artificial intelligence, cognitive science and linguistics are employed as important bases.
This paper presents a rule extraction algorithm RE to acquire explicit rules from trained neural networks. The validity of extracted rules has been confirmed using 6 different data sets. Based on experimental results, we conclude that extracted rules from RE predict more accurately and robustly than neural networks themselves and rules obtained from an inductive learning algorithm do. Rule extraction algorithm for neural networks are important for incorporating knowledge obtained from trained networks into knowledge based systems. In lieu of this, the proposed RE algorithm contributes to the trend toward developing hybrid and versatile knowledge-based system including expert systems and knowledge-based decision su, pp.rt systems.
The rule induction system generates a set of inductive rules, and the task of selecting an optimal rule subset is one of the important problem in the area of rule induction. This paper proposes a new learning method which combines rule induction system with the paradigm of genetic algorithm. This paper shows that genetic algorithm can be effectively applied to optimal rule selection problem. The proposed system was evaluated using a set of different machine learning data sets and, showed better performance in all cases than other traditional methods.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the most effective teaching model in the study of boiling point elevation. The teaching models were classified into three group-deductive, inductive and analogical teaching models. Learning materials, based on three teaching models respectively, were applied to 11th grade students, and the effect of teaching models were investigated and analyzed. The average achievement score(4.24) of the group treated with the analogical teaching model was higher than those(3.06 respectively) of each group treated with inductive or deductive teaching model(p<0.001). Most students answered that the analogical teaching model was helpful and interesting one for the comprehension of scientific concept.
This study was expected to yield the meaningful conclusions from the experimental group who took lessons based on inductive activities using GeoGebra at the beginning of proof learning and the comparison one who took traditional expository lessons based on deductive activities. The purpose of this study is to give some helpful suggestions for teaching proof to mathematically gifted elementary students. To attain the purpose, two research questions are established as follows. 1. Is there a significant difference in proof abilities between the experimental group who took inductive lessons using GeoGebra and comparison one who took traditional expository lessons? 2. Is there a significant difference in proof attitudes between the experimental group who took inductive lessons using GeoGebra and comparison one who took traditional expository lessons? To solve the above two research questions, they were divided into two groups, an experimental group of 10 students and a comparison group of 10 students, considering the results of gift and aptitude test, and the computer literacy among 20 elementary students that took lessons at some education institute for the gifted students located in K province after being selected in the mathematics. Special lesson based on the researcher's own lesson plan was treated to the experimental group while explanation-centered class based on the usual 8th grader's textbook was put into the comparison one. Four kinds of tests were used such as previous proof ability test, previous proof attitude test, subsequent proof ability test, and subsequent proof attitude test. One questionnaire survey was used only for experimental group. In the case of attitude toward proof test, the score of questions was calculated by 5-point Likert scale, and in the case of proof ability test was calculated by proper rating standard. The analysis of materials were performed with t-test using the SPSS V.18 statistical program. The following results have been drawn. First, experimental group who took proof lessons of inductive activities using GeoGebra as precedent activity before proving had better achievement in proof ability than the comparison group who took traditional proof lessons. Second, experimental group who took proof lessons of inductive activities using GeoGebra as precedent activity before proving had better achievement in the belief and attitude toward proof than the comparison group who took traditional proof lessons. Third, the survey about 'the effect of inductive activities using GeoGebra on the proof' shows that 100% of the students said that the activities were helpful for proof learning and that 60% of the reasons were 'because GeoGebra can help verify processes visually'. That means it gives positive effects on proof learning that students research constant character and make proposition by themselves justifying assumption and conclusion by changing figures through the function of estimation and drag in investigative software GeoGebra. In conclusion, this study may provide helpful suggestions in improving geometry education, through leading students to learn positive and active proof, connecting the learning processes such as induction based on activity using GeoGebra, simple deduction from induction(i.e. creating a proposition to distinguish between assumptions and conclusions), and formal deduction(i.e. proving).

New technologies such as the IoT, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence, starting from the Web, mobile, and smart device, enable new business models that did not exist before, and various types of Internet companies based on these business models has been emerged. In this research, we examine the factors that influence the success and failure of Internet companies. To do this, we review the recent studies on business model and examine the variables affecting the success of Internet companies in terms of network effect, user interface, cooperation with actors, creating value for users. Using the five derived variables, we will select 14 Internet companies that succeeded and failed in seven commercial business model categories. We derive decision tree by applying inductive learning based on ID3 algorithm to the analysis result and derive rules that affect success and failure based on derived decision tree. With these rules, we want to present the strategic implications for actors to succeed in Internet companies.
