  • The paper proposes a chaotic double tent mapping PWM scheme for mitigation the acoustic noise of a motor chive. The chaos area ${\lambda}=0.99$ in bifurcation tree of the double tent mapping is used for generating the chaotic numbers. A 80C196 micro-controller is employed for generation of chaotic numbers, and the triangular carrier with chaotic frequency is obtained by using a 80C196 micro-controller and a MAX038 frequency modulator. The experiments are executed with a 1.5[kw] induction motor chive under the 2.5[A] load condition. As results, the experimental results show that the carrier, voltage and 3-D switching noise spectra of the proposed scheme is spread over the chaotic frequency range with no specific frequency concentration. Thereby, the shrill acoustic noise radiated from a motor chive is reduced by the proposed scheme.

  • This paper addresses the current measurement issue of all digital field oriented control of ac motors. The p paper focuses on the effect of low-pass filter and also on the sampling of the fundamental component of the m motor current. The low-pass filter, which suppresses the switching noise of the motor current, introduces v variable phase delay according to the current ripple frequency. It is shown that the current sampling error c consists of the fundamental component and high frL'quency ripple components. In this paper, the dependency of t this current sampling e$\pi$or on the reference voltage vector is investigated analytically and a sampling technique i is proposed to minimize the error. The work is based on the three phase symmetry pulse width modulation l inverter driving an induction machine. With this technique, the bandwidth of current regulator can be extended t to the limit given by the switching frequency of the inverter and more precise torque regulation is possible.

  • In this paper, the cost-effective design of output reactor which is USCD to suppress the over-voltage at the m motor terminal in the Adjustable Speed Drives(ASD) application is proposed. In the elevator drive svstem. the R IXlwer cable length is relatively shorter than other ASD applications and then the over voltage at the motor terminal depends on the frequency characteristics of the output reactor at the over voltage operating frequency. The over-voltage suppression mechanism of output reactor in ASD application is analyzed and the dominant parameters of output reactor for the over-voltage supression are extracted. Using these as the design values and considering the high frequency characteristics of iron core in the reactor. a new c cost-effective structure of output reactor is proposed. Experimental results of the conventional reactor and the p proposed reactor with a l5kW induction motor are given to verify the propoSLD scheme.

  • Recent advancements of permanent magnet (PM) materials and solid-state devices have contributed to a substantial performance improvement of permanent magnet machines. Owing to the rare-earth PMs, these motors have higher efficiency, power factor, output power per mass and volume, and better dynamic performance than induction motors without sacrificing reliability. Not surprisingly, they are continuously receiving serious considerations for a variety of automotive and propulsion applications. An electric vehicle (EV) requires a high-effficient propulsion system having a wide operating range and a capability of generating a high peak torque for short durations. The improvement of torque-speed performance for these systems is consequently very important, and researches in various aspects are therefore being actively pursued. A great emphasis has been placed on the efficiency and optimal utilization of PM machines. This requires attention to many aspects related to the machine design and overall performance. In this respect, the prediction of iron losses is particularly indispensable and challenging, especially for drives with a deep field-weakening range. The objective of this paper is to present iron loss estimations of a PM motor over a wide speed range. As aforementioned, in EV applications core losses can be significant during high-speed operation and it is imperative to evaluate these losses accurately and take them into consideration during the motor design stage. In this investigation, the losses are predicted by using an analytical model and a 2D time-stepped finite element method (FEM). The results from different analytical approaches are compared with the FEM computations. The validity of each model is then evaluated by these comparisons.

  • In the manufacture of liquid crystal display devices, there is a strong demand for contactless glass plate handling devices that can manipulate a glass plate without contaminating or damaging it. To fulfill this requirement, an electrostatic transportation device for glass plates is proposed. This device can directly drive a glass plate and simultaneously provide contactless suspension by electrostatic forces. To accomplish these two functions, a feedback control strategy and the operational principle of an electrostatic induction motor are utilized. The stator possesses electrodes which exert electrostatic forces on the glass plate and are divided into a part responsible for suspension and one for transportation. To accomplish dynamic stability and a relatively fast suspension initiation time, the structure of the electrode for suspension possesses many boundaries over which potential differences are formed. In this paper, an electrode pattern suitable for the suspension of glass plates is described, followed by the structure of the transportation device and its operational principle. Experimental results show that the glass plate has been transported with a speed of approximately 25.6 mm/s while being suspended stably at a gap length of 0.3 mm.

  • The RPWM (Random· Pulse Width Modulation) is a switching technique to spread the voltage and current harmonics over a wide frequency area. By using randomly changing switching frequency of the inverter, the power spectrum of the electromagnetic acoustic noise can be spread to the wide-band area. The wideband noise is much more comfortable and less annoying than the narrow-band one. So, the RPWM has been attracting interest as an excellent method for the reduction of acoustic noise on the inverter drive system. In this paper a new RPPWM (Random Position Space Vector PWM) is proposed and implemented. Each of three phase pulses is located randomly in each switching interval. Along with the randomization of PWM pulses, the space vector modulation is also executed in the C167 micro-controller. The experimental results show that the voltage and current harmonics are spread to a wide band area and that the audible switching noise is reduced by the proposed RPPWM method.

  • A bootstrap circuit is widely used for the floating gate power supply of Intelligent power module (IPM). A bootstrap circuit is simple and inexpensive. However, the duty cycle and on-time are limited by the requirement to refresh the charge in the bootstrap capacitor. And the value of the bootstrap capacitor should be increased as the switching frequency decreases. A charge pump circuit can be used to overcome the problems. This paper deals with an analysis and design of a charge pump circuit for the floating gate power supply of an IPM. The simulation and experiment are carried out for an induction motor drive system. The results well verifies the validity of the proposed circuit and design method.
