Background: Our study aimed to investigate the mediating role of work-family conflict (WFC) on the relationship between long commutes and workers' anxiety and insomnia. Methods: Our study measured the two dimensions of WFC, time-related, and strain-related, which were considered multiple mediators. The mediating effect of WFC on anxiety and insomnia was investigated by decomposing the total effect into a direct effect (long commuting time → anxiety or insomnia) and an indirect effect (long commuting time → WFC → anxiety or insomnia). The combined indirect effect (joint indirect effect) of strain-related WFC and time-related WFC was estimated. The effects were presented as odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: The direct effect of 120 min or longer of commuting time was 1.39 (95% CI: 1.17-1.65) times increase in the odds of anxiety and 1.64 (95% CI: 1.41-1.90) times increase in the odds of insomnia than those whose commuting time was less than 60 min. In the case of indirect effects, those whose commuting time was 120 min or longer had 1.13 times higher odds of anxiety (95% CI: 1.07-1.18) and 1.12 times higher odds of insomnia (95% CI: 1.07-1.17) via WFC. The joint indirect effects accounted for 26.4% and 18.5% of the total effect on anxiety and insomnia, respectively. The longer the commuting time, the stronger both direct and indirect effects. Conclusions: Our findings highlight the mediating effect of WFC on the relationship between long commuting times and workers' anxiety and insomnia.
This paper investigates how servicescape perception influences customer experience quality in hedonic service settings. In addition to the direct effect of servicescape quality on customer experience quality, the indirect effects of servicescape quality on customer experience quality via employee-to-customer interaction quality and peer-to-peer interaction quality are also investigated. We collected data through a self-administered survey. The proposed relationships were tested using structural equation modeling. The results show that servicescape quality influences customer experience quality both directly and indirectly through employee-to-customer interaction quality and peer-to-peer interaction quality, and customer experience quality influences customer loyalty. Additionally, we find that the indirect path via peer-to-peer interaction quality is significant only in a low-satisfaction customer group. The indirect effect of servicescape quality perception through peer-to-peer interaction quality is significant only in low-satisfaction customer groups. Therefore, if evaluations for this indirect effect fall below an acceptable level, it should be addressed first before improving on other attributes. However, after this point, further improvements offer few if any gains; therefore, service firms should allocate their resources to quality improvements to other factors. This study is the first to investigate the indirect effects of servicescape quality on customer experience quality via peer-to-peer interaction quality in hedonic service settings. Additionally, this study demonstrates that the significance of this indirect effect applies only to a low-satisfaction customer group.
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of mothers' self-efficacy, parenting behaviors, and children's achievement motivation on children's self-efficacy. Subjects were 591 fifth- and sixth-graders and their mothers in Busan. Statistics and methods used for data analysis were Cronbach's alpha, Pearson's correlation, Multiple Regression, and Path Analysis. Several major findings of this study were as follows: 1) Any difference was not found by sex in children's general and total self-efficacy. Girls' social efficacy, however, was higher than boys'. 2) Achievement motivation had a direct positive effect and was the first positive contribution factor to the self-efficacy of both sexes. 3) On boys' self-efficacy, mothers' own had an indirect positive effect through achievement motivation, and their parental role efficacy had a positive effect, direct or indirect, through their affective parenting behaviors and the boys' achievement motivation; also mothers' affective parenting behaviors had an indirect positive effect through achievement motivation, and their controlling parenting had a direct negative effect. 4) On girls' self-efficacy, mothers' own had a direct positive effect, and their parental role efficacy had an indirect positive effect through their affective and controlling parenting behaviors and the girls' achievement motivation; also mothers' affective parenting behaviors had a positive effect, direct or indirect, through achievement motivation, and the controlling parenting had a negative effect, direct or indirect.
The purpose of this study was to analyze a causal relations of children's learned helplessness, stress, perception of self-competence and mother's childrearing attitudes. The subjects were 370 of 4th and 6th grade in elementary school and the second grade in junior high school in Busan and their's mothers. The instruments used for this study were learned helplessness scale, stress scale, self-perception profile for children, and childrearing attitude scale. The data was analyzed with pearson's correlation, multiple regression and path analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows : 1. Children's global self-worth, social self, age and mother's controlling childrearing attitudes predicted children's stress. 21% of the variance of children's stress was explained by these variables. 2. Children's stress, global self-worth, academic and social self predicted children's learned helplessness. 54% of the variance of children's learned helplessness was explained by these variables. 3. 1) Global self-worth was the first contribution and had a indirect effect through stress as well as a direct effect on children's learned helplessness. 2) Children's stress and academic self had direct effect on children's learned helplessness. 3) Children's social self had a indirect effect through stress as well as a direct effect on children's learned helplessness. 4) Mother's affectionate childrearing attitudes had indirect effect through academic, and social self and global self-worth on children's learned helplessness. Mother's controlling childrearing attitudes had indirect effect through stress on children's learned helplessness. Children's age had a indirect effect through global self-worth and stress and children's sex had a indirect effect through social self on children's learned helplessness.
Traditional mediation analysis, which relies on linear regression models, has faced criticism due to its limited suitability for cases involving different types of variables and complex covariates, such as interactions. This can result in unclear definitions of direct and indirect effects. As an alternative, causal mediation analysis using the counterfactual framework has been introduced to provide clearer definitions of direct and indirect effects while allowing for more flexible modeling methods. However, the conceptual understanding of this approach based on the counterfactual framework remains challenging for applied researchers. To address this issue, the present article was written to highlight and illustrate the definitions of causal estimands, including controlled direct effect, natural direct effect, and natural indirect effect, based on the key concept of nested counterfactuals. Furthermore, we recommend using 2 R packages, 'medflex' and 'mediation', to perform causal mediation analysis and provide public health examples. The article also offers caveats and guidelines for accurate interpretation of the results.
The contours of the definition of an indirect expropriation are not precisely drawn. In some recent ICSID decision, tribunals have interpreted the concept of indirect expropriation narrowly and have preferred to find a violation of the standard of fair and equitable treatment. Thus, I analyzed the three Requirements of Indirect Expropriation basis of ICSID Cases as below. First, the effect of measure upon the economic benefit value as well as upon the control over the investment will be the key question when it comes to deciding whether an indirect expropriation has taken place. Whenever this effect is substantial and lasts for a significant period of time, it will be assumed prima facie that a taking of the property has occurred. Second, legitimate play a key role in the interpretation of the fair and equitable treatment standard. But they also found entry into the law governing indirect expropriation. Finally, the duration of a government measure affecting the interests of a foreign investor is important for the assessment of whether an expropriation has occurred.
Ren et al. analyzed the performance of the indirect evaporative cooler according to the direction of the flow considering evaporation water flow and wetness. However the effect of NTU of each channel on the performance of the indirect evaporative cooler according to the direction of the flow was not analyzed exactly. In this study the effect of the direction of the flow on the Indirect evaporative cooling performance changing NTU of each channel are investigated theoretically. The cooling process of the indirect evaporative cooler by flow direction is modeled into a set of linear differential equations and solved to obtain the exact solutions to the temperatures of the hot fluid, the moist air, and evaporation water. Based on the exact solution in the case of different NTU of each channel, we study the change of the distribution of the temperature according to each flow direction and at the same time analyze the effect of the flow direction on the cooling performance.
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of children's perception of communications with mothers and self-control on game addiction. The subjects were 739 children of 4th, 5th and 6th grade. The subjects rated themselves on questionnaires regarding communications with mothers, self-control and game addiction scale. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) 6th grade children addicted more than 4th and 5th grade children. And boys addicted more than girls. 2) Sex had a direct and indirect effect through children's perception of problematic communications with mothers and self-control on game addiction and was the first contribution factor Children's self-control had a first direct negative effect on game addiction. 3) Children's perception of problematic communications with mothers had a direct positive effect and an indirect positive effect through self-control on game addiction. Grade had a direct positive effect and an indirect positive effect through children's perception of open and problematic communications with mothers and self-control on game addiction. Children's perception of open communications with mothers had a direct positive effect and an indirect negative effect through self-control on game addiction.
This study sets out to verify the moderated mediation of followers' identification with the leader on the indirect effect of authentic leadership on organizational cynicism via psychological contract breach. A total of 279 responses from employees at companies with more than 500 employees and of diverse industries were used for analysis. Our findings showed that authentic leadership (X) had a negative indirect effect on organizational cynicism (Y) via psychological contract breach (M), and that this indirect effect was negatively moderated by identification with the leader, thereby identifying its role as a moderating mediator. Further verification revealed that the indirect effect ($X{\rightarrow}M{\rightarrow}Y$) was conditional upon the value of the moderating variable, where identification with the leader had a significant effect in the 25%, 50%, 75%, 90% levels, but not in the 10% level. The findings of this research empirically verified that greater exertion of authentic leadership lowers psychological contract breach among organization members and, consequently, organizational cynicism. In particular, this effect was stronger when the organization member identified him/herself more strongly with the leader. Our findings extend the body of knowledge on the relationship between authentic leadership and organizational cynicism and expands the possibilities for future research.
Introduction of ICE(Integrated Collaboration Environment) has a great effect on corporate performance. In particular, it is expected that information sharing and collaboration among transaction partners will be an important factor which mediates ICE and its performance. Under such a background, this research intends to identify the influence of ICE by manufacturing industry on corporate performance through role of the parameter of information sharing and collaboration. The result of this research may be summed up as follows: ICE promotes information sharing and collaboration among enterprises, it accelerates integration of supply chain network among enterprises and cooperation. In particular, ICE has a great effect on information sharing. And information sharing has a direct effect on collaboration and performance. However, when we classify corporate performance into the "performance due to introduction", which is direct performance, and the "overall performance", which is indirect performance, the result of this research is as follows: information sharing has a great effect on the performance due to introduction, but does not have a meaningful effect on indirect performance. On the other hand, collaboration does not have any effect on the performance due to introduction, but has a meaningful effect on the overall performance, which is indirect performance. It is necessary to study and analyze additional this result in future.
