  • The purpose of this study is to develop a research model and to verify the effects death anxiety has on subjective health status, economic status, depression and social support for the elders and their quality of life. The survey targeting 330 elders from the 17 senior citizen centers in Dong-do-chun and Nam-yang-ju city was carried out from 2008.8.1 to 2008.9.31. To summarise the research result, 6 hypotheses among 9 hypotheses concerning the direct effects were supported. In another words, health status, depression and social support are valid and the direct effect of depression, social support and death anxiety are valid as subjective quality of life as an endogenous variable. In the case of indirect effects, 2 indirect effects among all 4 indirect effect hypotheses are valid. In another words, the effect the subjective health status has on the subjective quality of life is valid as the mediating effects of death anxiety and the effect depression has on the subjective quality of life is also valid as the mediating effects of death anxiety. Based on the results of this study, a proposal to reduce death anxiety among the elderly is suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of work motivation and leadership on job satisfaction and its implications on employee performance. A total of 355 samples of Bukit Asam Coal Mining Company Ltd. in Indonesia were selected proportionally with random sampling. Data were obtained through questionnaires. Data analysis technique employed structural equation modeling (SEM) with AMOS 22. The results of the study show that leadership and work motivation have a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction. Leadership has a more considerable influence (0.263) than work motivation (0.171) toward employee job satisfaction. The influence of leadership towards job performance is 0.175. The influence of work motivation towards job performance is 0.166. Job satisfaction has the most dominant influence (0.363) towards employee performance. The direct effect of leadership on employee performance is 0.175 greater than the indirect influence of leadership on employee performance through employee job satisfaction, which is only 0.096. Likewise, the direct effect of work motivation towards employee performance is 0.166 greater than the indirect effect of work motivation towards employee performance through employee job satisfaction, which is only 0.062. Thus, job satisfaction does not mediate the effects of leadership and work motivation toward employee performance.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of the attachment to mothers and peers and the depression on the adolescent delinquency. The subjects were 516 eleventh grade students in the liberal and the commercial high schools in Busan. The subjects rated on questionnaires by themselves regarding the attachment to mothers and peers, the depression and the latent delinquency. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) Adolescents in the commercial high school had more delinquency rate than those in the liberal high school. And the male adolescent had more delinquency rate than the female one. 2) The attachment to mothers and the kind of high school attended significantly predicted the male adolescent's depression. The attachment to mothers and peers significantly predicted the depression of the female adolescent. The relative influence of the attachment to mothers on the prediction of male and female adolescent's depression was the strongest among all the varibles. 3) The kind of high school had a first direct effect on the male and female adolescent's delinquency rates and was the first contribution factor. The attachment to mothers had both direct and indirect negative effect for female and an indirect negative effect for male on the adolescent delinquency rate through depression. But the attachment to peers had a direct positive effect on both male and female adolescent's delinquency. Depression had a direct effect on male adolescent delinquency.

  • This study showed that the association between grandmother-mother relationship and grandmother-grandchildren ties is mediated by the coparenting. Participants consisted of 329 grandmothers who were rearing preschool aged grandchildren in the Seoul and Gyeonggido area. SPSS 23.0 performed descriptive statistical analysis and correlation analysis. The structural equation model was estimated with AMOS 23.0. Parameters were estimated using the maximum likelihood method. Model fit index used the chi-square statistic, the goodness of fit index (GFI), the Turker-Lewis index (TLI), the comparative fit index (CFI), the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA). The mediation effect analysis followed a two-step verification process; direct and indirect effect. In addition, statistical significance of the indirect effect was examined using a bootstrapping procedure. The results are as follows. First, a positive correlation was found between the grandmother-mother relationship, grandmother-grandchildren ties, and coparenting. Second, the association between grandmother-mother relationship and grandmother-grandchildren ties is mediated by coparenting. The results of this study suggest that the quality of the grandmother's relationship with mothers and cooperative coparenting is important to building relationships with grandchildren. In addition, coparenting can be an important mechanism for grandmother-mother relationships and grandmother-grandchild ties. Based on the results of this study, we discussed ways to improve the grandmothers' relationship quality with the mother and strengthen parenting ability.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and test a structural model on cardiovascular disease risk factors among male manufacturing workers. Methods: Data were collected through questionnaires and health exams from 201 workers in a local electronic company during September 2004. Data analysis was done with SAS 9.1 for descriptive statistics and PC-LISREL 8.54 for covariance structural analysis Results: The overall fit of the hypothetical model to the data was moderate, it was modified by deleting five paths. The modified model had a better fit to the data($x^2=504.23$(p<001, df: 180), $x^2/df=2.80$, GFI=.95, RMR=.07, NFI=.90, PGFI=.64). Health behaviors and psychosocial distress were found to have significant direct effects on the cardiovascular disease risk factors. Self-concept had direct effect on psychosocial distress or health behaviors. Self-concept, work environment, and work condition had direct effect on social support. Work environment had indirect effect on psychosocial distress. Social support had indirect effect on health behaviors. But work environment and work condition were found to have little direct effect on health behaviors, psychosocial distress or cardiovascular disease risk factors. Conclusion: A cardiovascular health promotion program should therefore include psycho-social factors as well as health behavioral determinants in worksites.
