  • This study attempts to analyze the major periodical indexes and catalogs of 231 titles published in Korea in the form of monographs from 1973 to 1993, in order to identify the trends of their publications and the problems in its compilation and to suggest an idea for the improvements. The results of this can be summarized as follow : 1. The publication of indexes are concentrated on some subject fields including those of social science. And there should be general indexes in the fields of the humanities and pure sciences for the researches in these fields to consult. 2. The titles of the indexes are represented by various forms. 3. The materials included are extended to all types of them including monographs, serials, these and dissertations, and newspapers, so that enhances the usefulness of the subject indexes. 4. Most of indexes are published in quarterly or yearly and seldom publish the cumulative editions. 5. Most of indexes(140 titles, 90%) are classified indexes. 6. The descriptions include basic elements of author, title, translator, contributed title, issue number, date, pages, etc, in the case of most of indexes. 7. Cross reference are seldom used, because most of indexes are classified ones. 8. Auxiliary indexes or a n.0, ppendixes are not included in 34 titles of 21%.

  • Back-of-book-style indexes have a similar function as back-of-book indexes. The best advantage o4 back-of-book-style indexes for Information access on the web is to give direct access to specific subjects of interest. Though back-of-book-style indexes are alphabetically arranged as back-of-book indexes, they have linked index entries to contents on the site by using a anchor tag of HTML. In this research, I have created back-of-book-style indexes in two separated ways, by hand-crafted and semi-automatic Indexing. We have utilized back-of-book-style indexes, that is similar to back-of-book index of traditional information organization method of library and information science, in library circumstances.

  • To support Location Based Services, the technology to store and search locations information of moving objects effectively was needed. And the study about indexes to manage these moving objects effectively has been done. As these indexes for moving objects was not considered for the objects which are moving along constrained networks such as road and railroad, indexes for the moving objects based on constrained networks was proposed. But these kinds of indexes have two problems as following. First, as the indexes for the moving objects based on constrained networks is divided according to time domain, when the places of moving objects from the present to the past are needed, the problem to search past indexes as well as present indexes occurs. Second, in this case, we should construct both present indexes and past indexes, so we have no other choice but to spend space cost and reconstruction cost additionally. This paper proposes A Unified Index for Moving Objects in Constrained Networks to solve these kinds of problems. As this proposed indexes support both present location and past location of moving objects, it can solve the current problems such as when we search present and past location of moving objects, we need a separate processing procedure. And as it consolidated the common parts of current location indexes and past location indexes, we can use less space cost and reconstruction cost than when we maintain indexes separately.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine low-income households' financial statuses and the socio-economic characteristics of single-person and non-single person households according to the financial indexes used for evaluating financial security and growth status developed based on financial ratios. Using 2009 KLIPS(Korean Labor & Income Panel Survey) data collected by the Korean Labor Institute, the satisfaction levels from the indexes were analyzed and compared between the two household types. The results showed that 46.0% of single-person households were not satisfactory in terms of all financial growth indexes but were partially satisfactory in terms of all financial security indexes. These householders tended to be females and in the their 70s, who lived in Seoul or in a suburb of Seoul, Korea. They reported problems with a lack of financial growth possibilities. 47.0% of non-single person households were not satisfactory in terms of all financial growth indexes but were partially satisfactory in terms of all financial security indexes. These householders tended to be males in their 60s and 70s with no job who were living in Seoul or in a suburb of Seoul, Korea. They reported having low level of liquidity and high level of debt redemption. 42.6% of single-person households were not satisfactory in terms of both financial security and growth indexes partially. These householders tended to be females in their 20s or 70s who were living in rural areas. They reported problems related to an adverse balance between household income and expenditures and a large scale of debt. 43.1% of non-single households were not satisfactory in terms of both financial security and growth indexes partially. These householders tended to be males in their 60s or 70s and homeowners. They reported problem related to an adverse balance of household income and expenditures and high a level of housing expenditures and liquidity. The research findings have implication for policy makers considering financial support programs and welfare programs for low-income householders, considering the recent changes in households structures.

  • Today's urban spaces require diverse functions according to segmented social changes. Urban public space needs to be a field of mutual exchange, respect of diversity, and communication. According to these needs, an identity which reaches the public should be developed and realized. Therefore, this study is to present indexes for evaluating public space as a means to improve urban identity along with developing an awareness of possible problems. For this purpose, this study found out and analysed factors of evaluation indexes for the most fundamental public spaces which form cities in order to develop directions for deciding on indexes for public space and activation of that public space. An empirical analysis was conducted with the use of a questionnaire with evaluation indexes, reliability, and validity of properties of the space to be analysed and the evaluation items were tested. Based on the results, the study compared and analysed the differences between groups with independent variables (evaluation indexes) and general characteristics through a t-test. As a result, it was discovered that easy and safe accessibility in the use of urban parks as public space was statistically significant. Such results show that accessibility is the most significant factor in the use of parks.

  • For evaluating the cigarette smoke quality of nonblended and commercial cigarettes, four modified smoke quality indexes were deduced from considering the reactivity of the thiol group in cystine (SH value) with the cigarette smoke constituents, and from the maximum limited contents of tar. nicotine, and carbon monoxide for the less harmful cigarettes. These results were discussed with respect to correlation coefficients between the indexes and tar/nicotine ratio which had been known reliable for smoke quality evaluation. Among the three indexes, the SH/[(N/O.6) +($\frac{C+T}{8}$)] index was found to be the most reliable and applicable.

  • The Ministry of Strategy and Finance of South Korea accesses public organizations annually for increasing outcomes with effective and clear managements. The management assessment is categorized into the business management applied all organizations and the main business assessed by purposes and characters of organizations. This study analyzes metrical indexes of main businesses with using the logic model and suggests the direction of developing metrical indexes of organizations. Metrical indexes of the Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation in 2017 were analyzed to develop indexes. The results indicates that metrical indexes of the Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation are mainly consisted of the commitment and process. The logic model was suggested to analyze proprieties of metrical indexes of the main business. This study shows that organizations develop metrical indexes of the main business with classifying that these are from calculation indexes or result indexes. Thus, this study suggests that organizations consider result indexes based on the logic model for developing metrical indexes of the main business.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the functional effects of action observation plus functional electrical stimulation (FES) treatment on the weight distribution indexes (heel and toe; right and left), stability indexes, gait velocities, and stride lengths of stroke patients. METHODS: The subjects, who were all more than six months post stroke, were randomly divided into two groups of ten each: an experimental group and a control group. TETRAX (Tetrax Interactive Balance System) and GAITRite (GAITRite$^{TM}$ computerized gait analysis system) were measured at baseline, six weeks after treatment. Participants in both the groups received functional electrical stimulation treatment, but the experimental group was provided with additional action observation. Independent t-tests were used to compare the differences between the groups, and repeated measured two-way ANOVA was used to compare the interaction between the groups. RESULTS: The result of the interactions between the groups and the periods showed significant increases in the weight distribution indexes (heel and toe; right and left), stability indexes, gait velocities and stride lengths (p<0.05). However, a comparison between the groups showed no significance in the weight distribution indexes (heel and toe), stability indexes, and stride lengths (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: Action observation plus functional electrical stimulation treatment should be considered as a therapeutic method for physical therapy for stroke patients to improve the weight distribution indexes, stability indexes, gait velocities, and stride lengths.

  • Indexes, especially subject indexes, are major tools for information retrieval. To enhance the retrieval effectiveness of subject indexes, the semantic and syntactic relationships of indexing languages are very important elements. This paper examines the afore-mentioned relationships, based on purely the syntax and semantics of Korean language. The outlines of this study are as follows: 1. The characteristics and usages of controlled vocabularies, particularly subject headings lists and thesaury, are reviewed. 2. The semantic relationships, such as equivalence, hierarchical and associative relationships, are defined, and their categories are investigated in detail. Accordingly, the usages of 'See' and 'See also' references are suggested circumstantially. 3. The syntactic relationships are also examined. Particularly, for the syntactic relationships of multiword indexing terms, two kinds of subject entry formats are compared. Since it is more rational for subject headings organized by the principle of context-dependency, the two-fine entry format is recommended for subject indexes. 4. Computerized production techniques of 'See' and 'See also' reference for the semantic relationships of indexing terms are presented. 5. Computerized production techniques of subject indexes representing the syntactic relationships of indexing terms are also presented.

  • In this paper, in-process chatter detection methodology which utilizes nondimensional characteristic variables is introduced. To obtain nondimensional chatter detection indexes which are constant regardless of the cutting conditions during machining with the same tool and workpiece material, both the cutting forces and accelerations are measured and processed in time and frequency domain. The indexes are calculated from the present and past value of the acceleration and cutting force signals in time and frequency domain. The chatter is identified when these chatter detection indexes are bigger than the threshold which is decided by preliminary experiments. The experiment shows that these indexes works very well in-process chatter detection.
