  • The port entry system of the inner harbor in Pyeongtaek (Asan) was planned as lock-gate in 'Master plan project on port planning in Asan industry base(1990)', but was changed to tidal harbor in 'Project maintaining Master Plan for comprehensive development of Pyeongtaek (Asan) port(2001)'. Accordingly, southern sea bank constructed under the lower part of Seohae-bridge will be removed so that inbound/outbound vessels for the inner harbor can navigate at all times. However, in the view of the safety on passing through the lower of Seohae-bridge, navigating conditions for the inner harbor will be restricted in the single-way of 50,000 DWT vessel and the two-day of vessel less than 30,000 DWT. Therefore, this study carried out the estimation of traffic congestion arising from these vessels with above restrictions after supposing annual inbound/outboubd vessel's numbers for loading and unloading cargo surveyed on the inner harbor.

  • This paper investigates schemes to improve TCP performance in multipath forwarding networks. In multipath routing, packets to the same destination are sent to multiple next-hops in either packet-level or flow-level forwarding mode. Effective bandwidth is increased since we can utilize unused capacity of multiple paths to the destination. In packet-level multipath forwarding networks, TCP performance may not be enhanced due to frequent out-of-order segment arrivals at the receiver because of different delays among paths. To overcome this problem, we propose simple TCP modifications. At the sender, the fast retransmission threshold is adjusted taking the number of paths into consideration. At the receiver, the delayed acknowledgment scheme is modified such that an acknowledgment for an out-of-order segment arrival is delayed in the same way for the in-order one. The number of unnecessary retransmissions and congestion window reductions is diminished, which is verified by extensive simulations. In flow-level multipath forwarding networks, hashing is used at routers to select outgoing link of a packet. Here, we show by simulations that TCP performance is increased in proportion to the number of paths regardless of delay differences.

  • The prevalence of canine heartworm(Dirofilaria immitis) infection in 150 mixed-breed dogs(male : 54, female : 96) from February to December 1997 was investigated by using antigen test kit(ICT $GOLD^{TM}$ HW, Synbiotics, USA) based on immunochromatographic assay in Inchon city. Also, gross and histopathological findings of an antigen positive dog were carried out. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. Four dogs were positive from 150 tested dogs(2.7%). They were all more than 2 years old and infection rates in male and outdoor dogs was higher than those in female and indoor, respectively. Species of infected dogs were Pug(2) , German Sheperd(1) and Great-dane (1). 2. Regional infection rates were closely related with housing system in the city. 3. Pathological findings of antigen-positive dog was excessive enlargement, congestion and hemorrhage of lung and D immitis in heart and histologically hemosiderin, hypertrophy of pulmonary alveoli wall and irregular hypertrophy of pulmonary artery inner wall. Microfilaria was observed in pulmonary artery and arteriole, ventricle and splenic artery.

  • This paper presents the evaluation result of the Namsan 1st tunnel traffic information system, which is providing the real time queue length status and incidence information inside of the Namsan 1st tunnel, 1600meters long in the Seoul metropolitan CBD. This information system plays an important role because of notifying drivers to pay a toll for the tunnel path, the congestion information in advance. According to the analysis, an evident improvement on the tunnel path and its bypass without any conspicious adverse impact. Furthermore, survey analysis found that motorists placed a high value on the provided information. During peak time, the system turned out to help motorists to relax their hasty minds. As well, several performance indices showed the reduction of congestion and travel time variation on both of the tunnel path and its bypass, in spite of no traffic information on the bypass.

  • In this paper, we design the r-Sensor protocol for reliable data transmission in the Intelligent Home Service based on the wireless sensor network environment. The r-Sensor protocol improve the reliability of data transmission and node fairness using simple routing algorithm, congestion control, and loss recovery method that minimize the load of relay node. Reposed routing algorithm find out upstream and downstream nodes using the Network Management packet. Meanwhile, loss recovery algorithm uses the Aggregated-Nack. To apply supposed algorithm, the IHS-AMR(Intelligent Home Service - Automatic Meter Reader) and sensor node are designed and implemented in hardware. The IHS-AMR provides remote metering service and also offers home safety service by internetworking with sensor network, mobile phone network and internet.

  • Network-based computing such as cluster computing requires a reliable high-speed transport protocol. TCP is a representative reliable transport protocol on the Internet, which implements many mechanisms, such as flow control, congestion control, and retransmission, for reliable packet delivery. This paper, however, finds out that Myrinet does not incur any packet losses caused by network congestion. In addition, we ascertain that Myrinet supports reliable and ordered packet delivery. Consequently, most of reliable routines implemented in TCP produce unnecessarily additional overheads on Myrinet. In this paper, we show that we can attain the reliability only by flow control on Myrinet and propose a new reliable protocol based on UDP named RUM (Reliable UDP on Myrinet) that performs a flow control. As a result, RUM achieves a higher throughput by 45% than TCP and shows a similar one-way latency to UDP.

  • This study was undertaken to find out the effect of dropwort on histopathological changes of cadmium toxicity in mice. Thirty two mice of BALB/c strain were divided into a control group (A) and three experimental groups (B, C, D). Each group was consisted of four males and four females : group A received tap water and basal diet, group B received tap water and diet supplemented with 100 mg/kg of cadmium, group C received dropwort juice and diet supplemented with 100 mg/kg of cadmium, group D received dropwort juice and basal diet. All mice were dissected on the 35th day. Pathological changes in liver, kidney, spleen, heart, lung, stomach and muscle were observed. Group D showed no significant change as the control group. But group B showed many cytoplasmic vacuoles and necrosis of hepatocytes, glomerular swelling, and degeneration and necrosis of convoluted tubules in kidney, marked congestion and hemorrhage, and a large number of variably sized alveolar macrophages appearance in lung and swelling in some part of muscle fiber. On the other hand, group C showed a little convalescent changes and maintained their normal architectures in liver, kidney, lung and muscle.

  • This paper proposes a new buffer management scheme to service delay-sensitive traffic and loss-sensitive traffic fairly in ATM networks. The proposed scheme uses tow buffers for delay-sensitive traffic and loss-sensitive traffic. To satisfy the average delay time of delay-sensitive traffic, cells in real-time buffer are served first. When congestion occurs in nonreal-time buffer, low loss priority cell in real-time buffer can be pushed out by high loss priority cell in nonreal-time buffer can be transferred to real-time buffer considering threshold value in real-time buffer. Using computer simulation, the existing methods and proposed scheme are compared and analyzed with respect to cell loss rate and average delay time. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme have superior performance to conventional schemes.

  • Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a new network paradigm, allowing administrators to manage networks through central controllers by separating control plane from data plane. So, one or more controllers must locate outside switches. However, this separation may cause delay problems between controllers and switches. In this paper, we therefore propose a Priority-based Scheduling policy for OpenFlow (PSO) to reduce the delay of some significant traffic. Our PSO is based on packet prioritization mechanisms in both OpenFlow switches and controllers. In addition, we have prototyped and experimented on PSO using a network simulator (ns-3). From the experimental results, PSO has demonstrated low delay for targeted traffic in the out-of-brand control network. The targeted traffic can acquire forwarding rules with lower delay under network congestion in control links (with normalized load > 0.8), comparing to traditional OpenFlow. Furthermore, PSO is helpful in the in-band control network to prioritize OpenFlow messages over data packets.

  • In Resent years, urban tunnels have been more deeply constructed due to the congestion of buried steuctures. In such conditions, the shield method has become one of the popular urban tunnelling method by reason of several characteristics ; safety of construction, mimium environmental damage, and workbility. In tunnelling, the space which is tail-void are created between the ground and the other face of the primary lining. in other to reduce the ground seformation, it is important backfilling in tail-void. In this paper, the result of an experimental investigation undertaken to evaluate the physical and mechanical propeties of grouts composed of various mixtures of backfill materials. And the backfill injection model test was carried out considering the effects of tail-void.
