  • The fixed ends beam is analyzed by the s d 0 f system with the rigid-plastic model. And the safety criteria of the fixed ends beam to the Impulsive loads are established with the peak-load ratio to the static collapse load and impulse ratio to the ideal impulse producing the critical displacement. It is shown that the impulse and the peak-load of the impulsive loads are the important factors for the damage of the structures. It is also shown that the damage curves with the peak-load and impulse ratio are useful method to estimate the damage of the structures due to the emphasis on the equivalent dynamic loads rather than the equivalent static loads in the process of deriving the curve.

  • The safety criteria for the simple beam with a rigid-plastic model under the impulsive loadings are established with the peak-load ratio to the static collapse load and impulse ratio to the ideal impulse producing the plastic hinge at the mid-span. It is shown that the impulse and peak-load of the impulsive loadings are the important factors for the damage of the structures. It is also shown that the damage curves with the peak-load and impulse ratio may be useful method to estimate the damage of the structures due to the emphasis on the equivalent dynamic loads rather than the equivalent static loads in the process of deriving the curve.

  • This study is aimed at providing an efficient analytical model to obtain pressure- impulse diagram of one-way reinforced concrete slabs subjected to different shapes of air blast loading using single degree of freedom method (SDOF). A tri-linear elastic perfectly plastic SDOF model has been used to obtain the pressure-impulse diagram to correlate the blast pressure and the corresponding concrete flexural damage. In order to capture the response history for the slab, a new approximately SDOF method based on the conventional SDOF method is proposed and validated using published test data. The influences of pulse loading shape on the pressure-impulse diagram are studied. Based on the results, a pressure-impulse diagram generation method using SDOF and an analytical equation for the pressure-impulse diagram is proposed to different damage levels and different blast loading shapes.

  • The effects of the impulse and the magnitude of the impulsive loads to the responses of the structure are analyzed with the safety criteria established with the peak load and impulse ratio. It is shown for the loadings with short duration that the impulse is dominant factor for the damage of the structures due to the inertial effect. On the other hand the magnitude of the load is dominant factor for the load with long duration due to the duration time long enough for the loads to overcome the inertia force. It is also shown that the peak particle velocity and the peak particle acceleration of the foundation have the same influences as the impulse and the magnitude of the loads do to the structures.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the similitude laws for dissipation velocity of excess pore pressure after liquefaction according to magnitude of input accelerations and height of model soils from the results of impulse load tests. In impulse load tests, model soils were constructed to the height of 25cm, 50cm, and 100cm in acrylic tubes whose inside diameters were 19cm and 38cm respectively, and impulse loads were applied at the bottom of each model soil to liquefy the entire model soil. Excess pore pressure distribution by depth and settlement of soil surface were measured in each test. Dissipation curves of excess pore pressure measured in each tests were simulated by solidification theory, and dissipation velocities of excess pore pressure were determined from the slope of simulated dissipation curves. From the results of impulse load tests, dissipation velocity of excess pore pressure was not affected by magnitude of input acceleration, and from this fact, dissipation process was proved to be different from dynamic phenomenon. However, dissipation velocity of excess pore pressure increased as height of model soil increased and showed little difference as diameter of model soil increased. Therefore, the similitude law for dissipation velocity could be expressed by the similitude law for model height to 0.2 without regard to the diameter of model soil.

  • This study investigated the characteristics of fatigue breakdown caused by the impulse voltage of heat treated polyethylene cables through fault currents. This study attempted to obtain the badic data on the insulation design by the repeated load of impulse voltage wave zone (1*40.mu.s) on heat treated polyethylene cables. Besides this study also analysed the data involving their durability by means of the Weibull distribution. An analysis of the breakdown characteristics based upon the repeated load of impulse voltage has revealed that worn out deteriorative breakdown existed at a high voltage near the initial breakdown voltage, and that random breakdown was discovered at a voltage somewhat lower than the initial breakdown voltage. These phenomena were more remarkable especially in the case of the higher temperature treated cables.

  • This paper is focused on the residual capacity of steel columns, as a damage criterion. Load-Impulse (P-I) diagrams are frequently used for analysis, design, or assessment of blast resistant structures. The residual load carrying capacity of a simply supported steel column was derived as a damage criterion based on a SDOF computational approach. Dimensionless P-I diagrams were generated numerically with this quantitative damage criterion. These numerical P-I diagrams were used to show that traditional constant ductility ratios adopted as damage criteria are not appropriate for either the design or damage assessment of blast resistant steel columns, and that the current approach could be a much more appropriate alternative.

  • In this research, the structural health monitoring method using wavelet packet analysis and artificial neural network (ANN) is developed. Wavelet packet Transform (WPT) is applied to the response acceleration of a 3 element-cantilever beam which is subjected to impulse load and Gaussian random load to decompose the response signal, then the energy of each component is calculated. The first ten largest components in magnitude among the decomposed components are selected as input to an ANN to identify the damage location and severity. This method successfully predicted the amount of damage in the structure when the structure is subjected to impulse load. However, when the beam is subjected to Gaussian random load which can be considered as ambient vibration it did not yield satisfactory results. This method is applicable to structures such as machinery gears that are subjected to repetitive loads.

  • Transient dynamic behavior of a sandwich beam under thermal and impulsive loads has been researched in the context of higher-order beam theory. The impulse load of blast type has been enforced on the top exponent of the sandwich beam while it is in a thermal environment. The core of the sandwich beam is cellular with auxetic rectangular pattern, whereas the layers have been built with the incorporation of graphene oxide powder (GOP) and are micromechanically introduced through Halpin-Tsai formulization. Governing equations for the sandwich beam have been solved through inverse Laplace transform style for obtaining the dynamical deflections. The connection of beam deflections on temperature variability, GOP quantity, pulse load situation and core relative density has been surveyed in detail.
