Integration of Stress-Strain Rate Equations of CASM

  • In transportation geotechnical engineering, stress-strain behavior of earth structures has been analyzed by numerical simulations with the implemented plasticity constitutive model. It is a fact that many advanced plasticity constitutive models on predicting the mechanical behavior of soils have been developed as well as experimental research works for geotechnical applications in the past decades. In this study, recently developed, a unified constitutive model for both clay and sand, which is referred to as CASM (clay and sand model), was compared with a classical constitutive model, Cam-Clay model. Moreover, integration methods of stress-strain rate equations using CASM were presented for simulation of undrained and drained triaxial compression tests. As a conclusion, it was observed that semi-implicit integration method has more improved accuracy of capturing strain rate response to applied stress than explicit integration by the multiple correction and iteration.

  • A high-order discontinuous Galerkin method for the two-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations was developed on unstructured triangular meshes. For this purpose, the BR2 methd(the second Bassi and Rebay discretization) was adopted for space discretization and an implicit Euler backward method was used for time integration. Numerical tests were conducted to estimate the convergence order of the numerical solutions of the Poiseuille flow for which analytic solutions are available for comparison. Also, the flows around a flat plate, a 2-D circular cylinder, and an NACA0012 airfoil were numerically simulated. The numerical results showed that the present implicit discontinuous Galerkin method is an efficient method to obtain very accurate numerical solutions of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations on unstructured meshes.

  • In the previous development of the recursive thermostat chained fully flexible cell molecular dynamics simulation, implicit time integration method such as generalized leapfrog integration is used. The implicit algorithm is very much complicated and not easy to show time reversibility because it is solved by the nonlinear iterative procedure. Thus we develop simple, explicit symplectic time integration formula for the recursive thermostat chained fully flexible unit cell simulation. Uniaxial tension test is performed to verify the present explicit algorithm. We check that the present simulation satisfies the ergodic hypothesis for various values of fictitious mass and coefficient of multiple thermostat system. The proposed method should be helpful to predict mechanical and thermal behavior of nano-scale structure.

New implicit higher order time integration for dynamic analysis

  • In this paper new implicit time integration called N-IHOA is presented for dynamic analysis of high damping systems. Here, current displacement and velocity are assumed to be functions of the velocities and accelerations of several previous time steps, respectively. This definition causes that only one set of weighted factors is calculated from the Taylor series expansion which leads to a simple approach and reduce the computational efforts. Moreover a comprehensive study on stability of the proposed method i.e., N-IHOA compared with IHOA integration which is performed based on amplification matrices proves the ability of the N-IHOA in high damping vibrations such as control systems. Also, wide range of numerical examples which contains single/multi degrees of freedom, damped/un-damped, free/forced vibrations from finite element/finite difference demonstrate that the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed time integration is more than the common approaches such as the IHOA, the Wilson-${\theta}$ and the Newmark-${\beta}$.

  • The equations of motion for linearly elastic bodies undergoing large displacement motion are derived. This produces a set of equations which are efficient to numerically integrate. The equations for the elastic bodies are formulated and simplified to provide as much efficiency as possible in their numerical solution. A futher efficiency is obtained through the use of floating reference frame. The equation are presented in two forms for numerical integration. 1) Explicit numerical integration 2) Implicit numerical integration. In this paper, there was used the numerical integration. The implicit numerical integration is extended to solved second order equation, futher reducing the numerical effort required. The formulation given is seen to be occulate and is expected to be efficient for many types of problems.

실시간 하이브리드 실험 시스템을 위한 Implicit 시간적분법 (Implicit Time Integration Scheme for Real-Time Hybrid Test System)

  • 이 논문에서 소개되는 실시간 하이브리드 실험 시스템은 유사동적실험법을 근거로 하고 있으며, 실제 실험과수학적 모델을 이용한 수치해석을 결합한 실험법이다. 이 시스템은 종래의 유사동적해석법에 비해 지진하중을 받는 구조물의 실시간 반응에 근접하는 현저히 높은 하중재하 속도를 고려할 수 있도록 설계되었다. 또한 다자유도 구조물에 대해 안정적인 해석환경을 제공하기 위해 이 시스템은 implicit 시간적분법을 이용하여 수치해석을 수행한다. 이 논문은 연구를 통해 개발된 시스템의 전반적인 개요와 구성요소 그리고 이 시스템에서 사용하는 수치 해석법의 성능을 평가하기 위해 수행된 수치해석을 소개한다. 연구 결과 개발된 시스템에 적용된 수치해석법은 성능이 매우 우수하다는 것이 증명되었다.

Implicit Large Eddy Simulations of a rectangular 5:1 cylinder with a high-order discontinuous Galerkin method

  • In this work the numerical results of the flow around a 5:1 rectangular cylinder at Reynolds numbers 3 000 and 40 000, zero angle of attack and smooth incoming flow condition are presented. Implicit Large Eddy Simulations (ILES) have been performed with a high-order accurate spatial scheme and an implicit high-order accurate time integration method. The spatial approximation is based on a discontinuous Galerkin (dG) method, while the time integration exploits a linearly-implicit Rosenbrock-type Runge-Kutta scheme. The aim of this work is to show the feasibility of high-fidelity flow simulations with a moderate number of DOFs and large time step sizes. Moreover, the effect of different parameters, i.e., dimension of the computational domain, mesh type, grid resolution, boundary conditions, time step size and polynomial approximation, on the results accuracy is investigated. Our best dG result at Re=3 000 perfectly agrees with a reference DNS obtained using Nek5000 and about 40 times more degrees of freedom. The Re=40 000 computations, which are strongly under-resolved, show a reasonable correspondence with the experimental data of Mannini et al. (2017) and the LES of Zhang and Xu (2020).

극초음속 공기반응의 수치해석적 특성과 부분 내재적 적분법 적용 (Numerical Characteristics of Hypersonic Air Chemistry and Application of Partially Implicit Time Integration Method)

  • 본 논문은 극초음속 유동과 공력가열 해석에서 나타나는 공기 반응의 수치해석적 특징을 다루고 공기반응을 효율적으로 해석하는 부분 내재적 적분법을 공기반응에 적용하였다. 안정적 계산을 위해 화학반응 자코비안이 필수적임을 밝혔으며 자코비안의 양의 실수 특성치로 인한 수치기법의 경직성은 일반적인 연소반응에 비하여 미약하였다. 공기반응에서 부분 내재적 적분법은 화학종 순서의 종속성이 없었으며 완전 내재적 적분법과 동일한 수렴율과 계산 결과를 보였다. 극초음속 유동해석에 부분 내재적 적분법을 적용하면 전체 연산 시간이 감소되었다.

유사동적실험을 위한 내재적 방법에 관한 연구 (Research on the Implicit Method for Pseudo-Dynamic Test)

  • The use of unconditionally stable implicit time integration techniques for pseudo-dynamic test has been recently proposed and advanced by several researchers such as Thewalt and Mahin, Nakashima and Shing, etc. The developed implicit algorithms are based on the $\alpha$-Method of Huges et al. In this paper, a concise summary and explanation of implicit method for Pseudo dynamic tese is presented. Especially, The $\alpha$-C method developed by shing et al. has been in-depth evaluated for this study. Important parameters of the $\alpha$-C method have been analyzed by the simulation test.
