State Assignment Method for Control Part Implementation of Effective-Area (효율적인 면적의 제어부 실현을 위한 상태 할당 방법)

  • In this paper, a new state assignment method is proposed for the implementation of the area-effective control part. Introducing the, concept of adjacency matrix to control table generated by SDL(Symbolic Description Language) hardware compiler, a state assignment method is proposed with which minimal number of flip flops and effective number of product terms can be obtained to accomplish the area-effective implementation. Also, with substituting the assigned code to state transition table, boolean equations are obtained through 2-level logic minimization. Proposed algorithm is programmed in C-language on VAX-750/UNIX and b efficiency is shown by the practical example.

Implementation of Memory Efficient Flash Translation Layer for Open-channel SSDs

  • Open-channel SSD is a new type of Solid-State Disk (SSD) that improves the garbage collection overhead and write amplification due to physical constraints of NAND flash memory by exposing the internal structure of the SSD to the host. However, the host-level Flash Translation Layer (FTL) provided for open-channel SSDs in the current Linux kernel consumes host memory excessively because it use page-level mapping table to translate logical address to physical address. Therefore, in this paper, we implemente a selective mapping table loading scheme that loads only a currently required part of the mapping table to the mapping table cache from SSD instead of entire mapping table. In addition, to increase the hit ratio of the mapping table cache, filesystem information and mapping table access history are utilized for cache replacement policy. The proposed scheme is implemented in the host-level FTL of the Linux kernel and evaluated using open-channel SSD emulator. According to the evaluation results, we can achieve 80% of I/O performance using the only 32% of memory usage compared to the previous host-level FTL.

  • This paper describes the iTABLE tabletop tiled display system which is designed for displaying high-resolution scientific visualization. Unlike other tabletop systems that typically use a projection-based single display, iTABLE system is suitable for visualizing and sharing high-resolution data, and it is capable of facilitating group interaction with interactive data visualizations on a table and distributed collaborative visualizations with other tiled displays. First, it surveys prior works on tabletop and tiled display systems as well as scientific visualization, and it describes the design and implementation of iTABLE system, and middleware and an infrared camera-based tangible user interface designed for iTABLE system. It will then discuss some high-resolution scientific visualization applications developed for iTABLE followed by conclusions and future research directions.

  • RF power amplifier requires linearization in order to reduce adjacent channel interference. And most of the existing linearization algorithms assume that a PA has memory-less nonlinearity. But for the wider bandwidth signal, the memory effect of PA cannot be ignored. This paper investigates digital pre-distortion by use of a memory polynomial model which compensates for amplifier nonlinearity and memory effect. The look-up table based implementation scheme is used to reduce the computational complexity of the pre-distortion block. The linearization performance is demonstrated on wideband CDMA signal and class AB high power amplifier.

  • In this paper, we propose a focusable table component for mobile application to support table form representation of various contents and manipulation such as focusing on the contents using the WFC which is a software module to support components of the window based GUI package. It is not easy for us to express contents with table attributes on mobile devices. Java provides several table components, but these are not suitable on the mobile environment. So we design and develop the extended table component to provide properly table form representation and manipulation on the mobile devices. Also, we provide a performance comparison between th supposed table component and Java Swing's JTable.

  • Design of an in-process feedback control system has been studied for precision grinding. A grinding system consists of a grinding tool, a turn table and a disk-shaped workpiece on the table is taken as an object. A grinding process model has been deduced which gives some reasoning about the process errors. In the control system the tool position is actively controlled by an electro-magnetic actuator in-process. The ground error is feedback to compose a closed-loop control system and an optimal PID controller is applied. Some control performances such as transient response and disturbance such as transient response and disturbance attenuation have been examined, which convinces the effectiveness of the control. Some methods for implementation of the control. Some methods for implementation of the control have been suggested from a standpoint of practical application.

  • This paper concerns the implementation of a digital neural network which performs the high speed operation of Hopfield model's arithmetic operation. It is also designed to use a look-up table and produce floating point arithmetic of nonlinear function with high speed operation. The arithmetic processing of Hopfleld is able to describe the matrix-vector operation, which is adaptable to design the array processor because of its recursive and iterative operation .The proposed method is expected to be applied to the field of real neural networks because of the realization of the current VLSI techniques.

  • The color gamut mapping method that is used for enhancing the color reproduction quality between PC monitor and printer devices is adopted for display quality enhancement. The high definition display devices operate at the clock speed of around $70\;MHz\;\sim\;150\;MHz$ and permit several nano seconds for real-time processing. Thus, the concept of three-dimensional reduced resolution look-up table is used. The required hardware can be greatly reduced by look-up table resolution adjustment. The proposed hardware architecture is successfully implemented in ASIC and also successfully adopted in display quality enhancement purposes.

  • Overdriving schemes are used to improve the response time of liquid crystal display. Typically they are implemented by using LUTs (look-up table) within an image processor. However, the size of LUT is limited by the physical memory size and system cost. In this paper, we present an improved method for LUT implementation using linear interpolation and piecewise least-square polynomial regression. Using the proposed method, the performance of LUT can be improved and memory size of that can be reduced.

  • This paper describes the implementation of an autonomous fuzzy logic controller. The controller is endowed with basic control principles and learning constructs which enable it to autonomously modify its control policy based on system performance. The controller lies dormant when system response is satisfactory but if rapidly initiates adaptation in real time when adverse performance is observed. The autonomous fuzzy controller is implemented on an Intel MCS-51 series micro-controller board using an inexpensive 8-bit Intel 8031 processor. The 11.06 MHz micro-controller operates at a rate exceeding 200 "global" look-up table reinforcements per second. This is important when developing practical on-line adaptive controllers for fast systems. It is also significant because an initial controller look-up table could be incorrect or non-existent. The relatively high learning rate enables the controller to learn to control a system even while it is controlling it.
