Error concealment techniques are significant due to the growing interest in imagery transmission over error-prone channels. This paper presents a spatial error concealment technique for losslessly compressed images using least significant bit (LSB)-based data hiding to reconstruct a close approximation after the loss of image blocks during image transmission. Before transmission, block description information (BDI) is generated by applying quantization following discrete wavelet transform. This is then embedded into the LSB plane of the original image itself at the encoder. At the decoder, this BDI is used to conceal blocks that may have been dropped during the transmission. Although the original image is modified slightly by the message embedding process, no perceptible artifacts are introduced and the visual quality is sufficient for analysis and diagnosis. In comparisons with previous methods at various loss rates, the proposed technique is shown to be promising due to its good performance in the case of a loss of isolated and continuous blocks.
In this paper, we propose a novel interframe coding algorithm especially appropriate for 3-D medical images. The proposed algorithm is based on a video coding algorithm using motion estimation/ compensation and transform coding. In the algorithm, warping is adopted lor motion compensation (MC). Then, by using adaptive mode selection, a motion compensated residual image and original image are mixed up in the wavelet transform domain for improvement in coding performance. The mixed image is then compressed by the zerotree coding method. We prove that the adaptive mode selection technique in the wavelet transform domain is very useful lor 3-D medical image coding. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides good performance regardless of inter-slice distance and is prospective for 3-D medical image compression.

Purpose Microtia is congenital anomaly of external ear and the reconstruction method for the external ear of microtia patient was based on autogenous costal cartilage framework. The application of 3D printing technique in medical science has made more possibility of human tissue restoration, and we tried to apply this technique in auricular reconstruction field. Materials and Methods As for unilateral microtia patient, the contralateral side ear is normal and reconstructive surgeon tried to mimic it for reconstruction of affected ear. So, we obtained facial CT scan of microtia patient and made mirror image of normal side ear. Moreover, to make the 3D scaffold based on the mirror image of normal ear and to apply this scaffold for the auricular reconstruction surgery, we included auriculocephalic sulcus and anterior fixation part. Results We could successfully obtain mirror image of normal ear, auriculocephalic sulcus and anterior fixation part for 3D scaffold printing. Conclusions Using this CT image processing and 3D printing technique, we will be able to make the scaffold for auricular reconstruction of unilateral microtia patient, and perform auricular reconstruction in near future.
In this paper we propose an improved version of the computational integral imaging reconstruction (CIIR) for visualizing a partially occluded object by utilizing an image inpainting technique. In the proposed method the elemental images for a partially occluded three-dimensional (3D) object are recorded through the integral imaging pickup process. Next, the depth of occlusion within the elemental images is estimated using two different CIIR methods, and the weight mask pattern for occlusion is generated. After that, we apply our image inpainting technique to the recorded elemental images to fill in the occluding area with reliable data, using information from neighboring pixels. Finally, the inpainted elemental images for the occluded region are reconstructed using the CIIR process. To verify the validity of the proposed system, we carry out preliminary experiments in which faces are the objects. The experimental results reveal that the proposed system can dramatically improve the quality of a reconstructed CIIR image.

In this paper, we propose an improved optical flow algorithm which reduces computational complexity as well as noise level. This algorithm reduces computational time by applying level simplification technique and removes noise by using eigenvectors of objects. Optical flow is one of the accurate algorithms used to generate depth information from two image frames using the vectors which track the motions of pixels. This technique, however, has disadvantage of taking very long computational time because of the pixel-based calculation and can cause some noise problems. The level simplifying technique is applied to reduce the computational time, and the noise is removed by applying optical flow only to the area of having eigenvector, then using the edge image to generate the depth information of background area. Three-dimensional images were created from two-dimensional images using the proposed method which generates the depth information first and then converts into three-dimensional image using the depth information and DIBR(Depth Image Based Rendering) technique. The error rate was obtained using the SSIM(Structural SIMilarity index).

With the increasing demands of 3D spatial information in urban environment, the importance of point clouds generation techniques have been increased. In particular, for as-built BIM, the point clouds with the high accuracy and density is required to describe the detail information of building components. Since the terrestrial LiDAR has high performance in terms of accuracy and point density, it has been widely used for as-built 3D modelling. However, the high cost of devices is obstacle for general uses, and the image-based 3D reconstruction technique is being a new attraction as an alternative solution. This paper compares the image-based 3D reconstruction technique and the terrestrial LiDAR in point of establishing the as-built BIM of outdoor structures. The point clouds generated from the image-based 3D reconstruction technique could roughly present the 3D shape of a building, but could not precisely express detail information, such as windows, doors and a roof of building. There were 13.2~28.9 cm of RMSE between the terrestrial LiDAR scanning data and the point clouds, which generated from smartphone and DSLR camera images. In conclusion, the results demonstrate that the image-based 3D reconstruction can be used in drawing building footprint and wireframe, and the terrestrial LiDAR is suitable for detail 3D outdoor modeling.
Image Guided Surgery (IGS) system which has variously tried in medical engineering fields is able to give a surgeon objective information of operation process like decision making and surgical planning. This information is displayed through 3D images which are acquired from image modalities like CT and MRI for pre-operation. The technique of image registration is necessary to construct IGS system. Image registration means that 3D model and the object operated by a surgeon are matched on the common frame. Major techniques of registration in IGS system have been used by recognizing fiducial markers placed on the object. However, this method has been criticized due to additional trauma, its invasive protocol inserting fiducial markers in patient's bone and generating noise data when 2D slice images are acquired by image modality because many markers are made of metal. Therefore, this paper developed shape-based registration technique to improve the limitation of fiducial marker based IGS system. Iterative Closest Points (ICP) algorithm was used to match corresponding points and quaternion based rotation and translation transformation using closed form solution applied to find the optimized cost function of transformation. we assumed that this algorithm were used in Total Knee replacement (TKR) operation. Accordingly, we have developed region-based 3D registration technique based on anatomical landmarks and this registration algorithm was evaluated in a femur model. It was found that region-based algorithm can improve the accuracy in 3D registration.

As various users increase in a network environment, it is difficult to protect sensitive and confidential information transmitted and received from attackers. Concealing bitwise secret data in an image using the LSB technique can be very vulnerable to attack. To solve this problem, a hybrid method that combines encryption and information hiding is used. Therefore, an effective method for users to securely protect secret messages and implement secret communication is required. A new approach is needed to improve security and imperceptibility to ensure image quality. In this paper, I propose an LSB steganography technique that hides Hangul messages in a cover image based on MSB and LSB. At this time, after separating Hangul into chosung, jungsung and jongsung, the secret message is applied with Exclusive-OR or Exclusive-NOR operation depending on the selected MSB. In addition, the calculated secret data is hidden in the LSB n bits of the cover image converted by Fibonacci technique. PSNR was used to confirm the effectiveness of the applied results. It was confirmed 41.517(dB) which is suitable as an acceptable result.

Image authentication is a technique aiming at protecting the integrity of digital images. Reversible image authentication has attracted much attention of researcher because it allows to authenticate tampered regions in the image and to reconstruct the stego image to its original version losslessly. In this paper, we propose a new, reversible image authentication scheme based on adaptive prediction error expansion (PEE) technique. In the proposed scheme, each image block is classified into smooth or complex regions. Then, according to the characteristic of each block, the authentication code is embedded adaptively to achieve high performance of tamper detection. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed scheme achieves good quality of stego images. In addition, the proposed scheme has ability to reconstruct the stego image to its original version, if no modification is performed on it. Also demonstrated in the experimental results, the proposed scheme provides higher accuracy of tamper detection than state-of-the-art schemes.
