입경 측정을 위한 영상 처리 기법의 개선 (Improvement of Image Processing Technique for Drop Size Measurement)

  • In the present work, the image processing technique for measurement of drop sizes has been improved. Firstly, the local processing concept was adopted in addition to the global processing technique to take account of non-uniformity of the illumination intensity ; thereby, basically, the measurement error can be reduced. Also, the unfocussed image of drops can be eliminated more precisely since the elimination process is based on the local normalized contrast. Secondly the algorithms to process the partially detected or overlapped drop images and the non-spherical drop images were developed. Finally, the improved algorithm was tested by using an artificially prepared image-frame, where the partial or overlapped particles and the non-spherical particles are mixed with the normal spherical ones (with their true size-distributions known a priori). The results showed that both the recognition rate of the number of particles and the measurement accuracy were improved prominently.

  • A previous study verified that the SIRT (simultaneous iterative reconstruction technique) method is more efficient than the back-projection method as a CT algorithm for wood. However, it was expected that the determination of the initial model function of the SIRT method would influence the quality of CT image. Therefore, in this study, we intended to develop a technique that could be used to determine an adequate initial model function. For this purpose, we proposed several techniques, and for each technique we examined the effects of the initial model function on the average errors and the CT image at each iteration. Through this study, it was shown that the average error was decreased and the image quality was improved using the proposed techniques. This tendency was most pronounced when the back-projection method was used to determine the initial model function. From the results of this study, we drew the following conclusions: 1) The initial model function of the SIRT method should be determined with careful attention, and 2) the back-projection method efficiently determines the initial model function of the SIRT method.

MSER을 이용한 문서 이미지 이진화 기법 (Document Image Binarization Technique using MSER)

  • 문서 이미지의 이진화는 문서 인식의 이전 단계에서 주로 사용되며, 이진화의 성공 여부에 따라 문서 인식의 결과에 영향을 미치는 중요한 단계로 볼 수 있다. 지금까지 문서 이미지를 이진화 하기 위한 다양한 기법들이 연구되었지만, 문서 이미지의 상태에 따라 그 결과는 다양하다. 본 논문에서는 객체 추출에 많이 이용되는 MSER(Maximally Stable Extremal Region)을 이용하여 문서 이미지를 이진화하는 기법을 제안한다. 먼저 문서 이미지에서 MSER 객체를 추출한다. 추출된 MSER 객체는 그 자체로 문서 이미지 이진화에 사용되기는 어렵기 때문에 사용하기 적합한 형태로 변경되는 과정을 거친다. 그리고 최종 MSER 객체와 문서 이미지로부터 추출한 대비 이진 이미지를 이용하여 최종 이진 이미지를 계산한다. 실험결과는 본 논문에서 제안한 방법이 문서 이미지의 이진화에 유용함을 보여준다.

영상의 특성을 효과적으로 이용하고 CZP 문제를 해결하여 영상에 가역적으로 데이터를 은닉하는 기법에 대한 연구 (A Study on reversible data hiding using the characteristics of image and solving CZP problem)

  • 본 논문에서는 영상에 존재하는 곡면 특성과 지역적 유사성을 효과적으로 이용하고, 극히 일부 영상에서 발생하는 CZP(Closest Zero point)가 존재하지 않는 문제를 해결하여 히스토그램 이동을 통해 가역적으로 기밀데이터를 커버 이미지(cover image)에 은닉할 수 있는 기법을 제안하였다. 제안된 기법을 적용하면 커버 이미지에 비가시적으로 데이터를 은닉할 수 있으며, 데이터가 은닉된 스테고 이미지(stego-image)로부터 기밀 데이터를 손실 없이 추출하고, 원본 커버 이미지를 온전히 복원할 수 있다. 제안된 기법을 적용하여 구성한 스테고 이미지는 커버 이미지와 차이를 구별할 수 없을 정도로 시각적 화질이 우수하기 때문에 기밀 데이터가 스테고 이미지에 은닉되었는지를 알 수 없다. 제안된 기법은 기존의 APD(Adjacent Pixel Difference)기법에 비하여 다양한 레벨로 기밀 데이터를 은닉할 수 있으며, APD 기법 대비 최대 25.1% 많은 기밀 데이터를 커버 이미지에 은닉 할 수 있었다.

다위상 유체 속도 계측을 위한 영상기법 적용 (Multi-phase Flow Velocity Measurement Technique using Shadow Graphic Images)

  • Air-water flow measurements are of importance for the coastal and ocean engineering fields. Although kinematic investigations of the multi-phase flows have been conducted for long time, velocity measurements still are concerned with many researchers and engineers in coastal and ocean areas. In the present study, an imaging technique using shadowgraphy and fiber optic probe for velocity measurements of air bubbles is introduced. The shadow graphy image technique is modified from the typical image velocimetry methods, and optical fibers are used for the well-known intrusive coupled phase-detection probe system. Since the imaging technique is a non-intrusive optical method from the air, it is usually applied for 2D flows. On the other hand, the double fiber optic probes touch flows regardless of flow patterns. The results of the flow measurements by both methods are compared and discussed. The methods are also applied to the measurements of overtopping flows by a breaking wave over the structure fixed on the free surface.

  • In the magnetic resonance imaging, the fast spin echo imaging technique is a widely used clinical imaging method, since its scanning time is much shorter than the conventional spin echo imaging and it gives the almost same image quality. However, the fast spin echo technique has two times longer imaging time or the dual echo acquisition which can obtain a spin density image and a $T_2$-weighted image simultaneously. To overcome such a drawback, this paper proposes a new fast dual echo imaging technique which can give the same quality images at the single echo imaging time. The proposed technique reduces the imaging time by overlapping most of echo train data for each image reconstruction. In order to verify its validity and usability the human head experimental results which were obtained at the 0.3T permanent MRI system are presented.

Gain and Phase Mismatch Calibration Technique in Image-Reject RF Receiver

  • This paper presents a gain and phase mismatch calibration technique for an image-reject RF receiver. The gain mismatch is calibrated by directly measuring the output signal amplitudes of two signal paths. The phase mismatch is calibrated by measuring the output amplitude of the final IF output at the image band. The calibration of the gain and phase mismatch is performed at power-up, and the normal operation of the RF receiver does not interfere with the mismatch calibration circuit. To verify the proposed technique, a 2.4-GHz Weaver image-reject receiver with the gain and phase mismatch calibration circuit is implemented in a 0.18-${\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The overall receiver achieves a voltage gain of 45 dB and a noise figure of 4.8 dB. The image rejection ratio(IRR) is improved from 31 dB to 59.76 dB even with 1 dB and $5^{\circ}$ mismatch in gain and phase, respectively.

영상처리기법을 이용한 CCT 시편 균열의 자동관측법에 관한 연구 (The Measurement of the Crack in CCT Specimen Using the Image Processing Techniques)

  • In the analysis of fatigue crack propagation behavior, the crack length is one of the most important factors. In the test of crack propagation, compliance method is widely used to detect crack length. The measurement of surface crack length is not so easy with compliance method. In this study, the image processing technique was applied to measure the surface crack length. CCD(Charge-coupled device) camera was used to observe the crack image and the computer program to detect crack length from stored crack image was developed. CCT(Center Cracked Tension) specimen was used to compare the compliance method with the image processing technique. The crack length which detected by the image processing techniques was found to be well consistent with that from the optical measurement.

JPEG-based Variable Block-Size Image Compression using CIE La*b* Color Space

  • In this work we propose a compression technique that makes use of linear and perceptually uniform CIE $La^*b^*$ color space in the JPEG image compression framework to improve its performance at lower bitrates. To generate quantization matrices suitable for the linear and perceptually uniform CIE $La^*b^*$ color space, a novel linear Contrast Sensitivity Function (CSF) is used. The compression performance in terms of Compression Ratio (CR) and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), is further improved by utilizing image dependent, variable and non-uniform image sub-blocks generated using a proposed histogram-based merging technique. Experimental results indicate that the proposed linear CSF based quantization technique yields, on an average, 8% increase in CR for the same reconstructed image quality in terms of PSNR as compared to the conventional YCbCr color space. The proposed scheme also outperforms JPEG in terms of CR by an average of 45.01% for the same reconstructed image quality.

  • 본 논문에서는 unsharp masking를 이용한 영상 개선 기법을 제안한다. 이 기법은 기존의 unsharp mask을 이용한 영상 개선을 어렵게 만드는 요인 중 하나인 인자를 자동으로 설정하여 이미지를 선명하게 만드는 기법이다. 기존의 세 인자인 Threshold, Amount, Radius를 자동으로 최적화하기 위해, 영상의 각 픽셀을 세 가지 그룹으로 분류하고, 그에 따라 unsharp mask의 적용 정도를 달리한다. 사람이 직접 인자를 입력하여 개선된 영상과 제안된 기법으로 개선된 영상의 비교를 통해 영상 개선 정도를 실험, 분석하였다.
