  • Success rate of transplantation of body organs improved due to development of medical equipment and diagnostic technology. In particular, a liver transplant due to liver dysfunction has increased. With the development of image processing and analysis to obtain the volume for liver transplantation have increased the accuracy and efficiency. In this thesis, we try to reconstruct the regions of the liver within three dimensional images using the mevislab tool, which is effective in quick comparison and analysis of various algorithms, and in expedient development of prototypes. Liver is divided by applying threshold values and region growing method to the original image, and by removing noise and unnecessary entities through morphology and region filling, and setting of areas of interest. It is deemed that high temporal efficiency, and presentation of diverse range of comparison and analysis module application methods through usage of MeVisLab would make contribution towards expanding of baseline of medical image processing researches.

  • When rendering both three-dimensional objects and photo images together, the non-photorealistic rendering results are in visual discord since the two contents have their own independent color distributions. This paper proposes a non-photorealistic rendering technique which renders both three-dimensional objects and photo images such as cartoons and sketches. The proposed technique computes the color distribution property of the photo images and reduces the number of colors of both photo images and 3D objects. NPR is performed based on the reduced colormaps and edge features. To enhance the natural scene presentation, the image region segmentation process is preferred when extracting and applying colormaps. However, the image segmentation technique needs a lot of computational operations. It takes a long time for non-photorealistic rendering for large size frames. To speed up the time-consuming segmentation procedure, we use GPGPU for the parallel computing using the GPU. As a result, we significantly improve the execution speed of the algorithm.

  • In this study, the characteristics of the reading materials in elementary school science textbooks developed under the 2009 revised National Science Curriculum were investigated. The criteria for classifying the reading materials were the types of topic, purpose, students' activity, and presentation. The visual images in the reading materials were also analyzed from the viewpoint of type, role, caption type, and proximity type. The results indicated that the number of the reading materials in the 2009 revised science textbooks decreased compared to that of the 2007 revised science textbooks. It was also found that the frequencies of the reading materials expanding concepts of the text and/or requiring corresponding students' inquiry increased. More visual images were used in the reading materials of the 2009 revised science textbooks. However, several limitations were still found to exist; most visual images were illustration and/or picture; many visual images were presented without a caption; there was a problem in the proximity of visual image to text.

  • Jean-Charles de Castelbajac is gaining worldwide recognition as a designer who is not conscious of fashion and meet the desire of times. Castelbajac's works can be devided into three periods. 1. Creative challenge period. (1968~78) - His works started from creative challenge against haute-couture attract with practical design and extraordinary textile use. 2. Artistic development period. (1979~88) - He made unique ideas with the four primary colors affected by modern formative art. Pop-art clothes using cartoon or graffito were highlighted. 3. Aesthetic maturity period. (1989-now) - He received chevalier of Arts and the Letters at 1989. He was acquainted with other many designers in the world at 1990s, and his works came to mature. The aesthetic qualities in Castelbajac's works can be identified with the following themes. 1. Geometrical simplicity - Geometrical form without decoration and unnecessary lines used for the most comfortable cloth to wear and act gives an impression of explicitness and intelligence. 2. Humorous decoration - An unique idea having wit and humor shows his philosophy that must be new, vital and delightful. 3. Parody presentation - Pictures or people are reorganized 9Y work philosophy, then that get satirical and comic effects. 4. Pop-art image - Using mass communication media like a cartoon, figures, flag, graffiti, it produces clear and bright image.

  • The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) is developing three 1.6m optical telescopes with $18k{\times}18k$ mosaic CCD cameras. These telescopes will be installed and operated at Chile, South Africa, and Australia for Korea Micro-lensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) project. The main scientific goal of the project is to discover earth-like extra-solar planets using the gravitational micro-lensing technique. To achieve the goal, each telescope at three sites will continuously monitor the specific region of Galactic bulge with 2.5 minute cadence for five years. Assuming 12 hour observation in maximum for a night, the amount of 200 GB file storage is required for one night observation at one observatory. If we consider the whole project period and the data processing procedure, a few PB class data storage, high-speed network, and high performance computers are essential. In this presentation, we introduce the KMTNet data management plan that handles gigantic data; raw image collecting, image processing, photometry pipeline, database archiving, and backup.

  • The purpose of this study is to first examine the relationship between appearance-enhancing beauty practices and feminism, and secondly, to analyze public images of contemporary women using this paradigm. Through the lens of this relationship, we present a literature review and empirical research focusing on the evolution of public image trends among girl groups, with special attention to the Refund Sisters, a South Korean supergroup currently drawing mainstream attention as female icons. The scope of analysis includes girl groups dating from the 1990's to the year 2020 and photos of the Refund Sisters. Our results indicate that firstly, free sexual expression is evident based on active use of sexuality; images contain bold demonstrations of females desire, expressions previously considered taboo. Secondly, we note deviations from more standardized female images, unique adornment of outward appearance, and rejection of normative female images through freer forms of self-presentation. Lastly, there is greater cultural and racial diversity, rejection of modern race and gender binaries, and increased representation of queer identities. However, the relationship between appearance-enhancing beauty practices and feminism is sometimes considered paradoxical, with some arguing that beautifying one's outward appearance is a compulsory strategy and that it should be rejected in order to resist aesthetic pressure.
