  • In the rapid growth of cities, road has heavy traffic and many buildings are under constructions. These kinds of environments make more difficulty for a person who is visually handicapped to walk comfortable. To alleviate the problem, we introduce Android based Portable Navigation System to help walking for Visually Impaired Person. It follows, service center give instant real time monitoring to visually impaired person for their convenient by this system. Android based Portable Navigation System has GPS, Camera, Audio and WI-FI(wireless fidelity) available. It means that GPS location and Camera image information can be sent to service center by WI-FI network. To be specific, transmitted GPS location information enables service center to figure out the visually impaired person's whereabouts and mark the location on the map. By delivered Camera image information, service center monitors the visually impaired person's view. Also, they can offer live guidance to visually impaired person by equipped Audio with live talking. To sum up, Android based Portable Navigation System is a specialized navigation system that gives practical effect to realize more comfortable walking for visually impaired person.

  • We developed a software for simulations and analyses of the Image Navigation and Registration (INR) system, and compares the characteristics of Image Motion Compensation (IMC) algorithms for the INR system. According to the orbit errors and attitude errors, the capabilities of the image distortions are analyzed. The distortions of images can be compensated by GOES IMC algorithm and Modified IMC (MIMC) algorithm. The capabilities of each IMC algorithm are confirmed based on compensated images. The MIMC yields better results than GOES IMC although both the algorithms well compensate distorted images. The results of this research can be used as valuable asset to design of INR system for the Communication, Ocean, Meteorological Satellite (COMS).

  • This paper proposes a new method for vision-based navigation using semantically segmented aerial images. Vision-based navigation can reinforce the vulnerability of the GPS/INS integrated navigation system. However, due to the visual and temporal difference between the aerial image and the database image, the existing image matching algorithms have difficulties being applied to aerial navigation problems. For this reason, this paper proposes a suitable matching method for the flight composed of navigational feature extraction through semantic segmentation followed by template matching. The proposed method shows excellent performance in simulation and even flight situations.

  • Modem efforts on digitizing electronic books focus on preserving authentic image representation of the original sources. Unlike the text-based format, it is difficult to recognize the information in the image, so the new format requires new tools to help users to access, process, and make sense of digital information. This paper presents an approach which assists users of these image sources by giving them a combination of annotation and social navigation support. Especially in the education domain, the proposed technique improves the usability of online education system. This approach is currently fully implemented and under evaluation in a classroom study.

  • Robot navigation allows robot mobility. Therefore, mobility is an area of robotics that has been actively investigated since robots were first developed. In recent years, interest in personal service robots for homes and public facilities has increased. As a result, robot navigation within the home environment, which is an indoor environment, is being actively investigated. However, the problem with conventional navigation algorithms is that they require a large computation time for their building mapping and path planning processes. This problem makes it difficult to cope with an environment that changes in real-time. Therefore, we propose a humanoid robot navigation algorithm consisting of an image processing and optimization algorithm. This algorithm realizes navigation with less computation time than conventional navigation algorithms using map building and path planning processes, and can cope with an environment that changes in real-time.

  • In this paper, we contructed extended Kalman filter for the image navigation systems. The conventional extended Kalman filter methode are simulated for nonlinear measurement systems. In addition, we designed a maneuvering target tracking filter using Singer's model technique and input estimation technique by Chan. Simulation results show that Chan's input estimation technique has performed better than Singer's technique.

  • Image-based rendering is an approach to generate realistic images in real-time without modeling explicit 3D geometry, Especially, TIP(Tour Into the Picture) is preferred for its simplicity in constructing 3D background scene. However, TP has a limitation that a viewpoint cannot go far from the origin of the TIP for the lack of geometrical information. in this paper, we propose a method to interpolating the TIP images to generate smooth and realistic navigation. We construct multiple TIP models in a wide area of the virtual environment. Then we interpolate foreground objects and background object respectively to generate smooth navigation results.

  • Shadows are common phenomena observed in natural scenes and often bring a major problem that is affected negatively in colour image analysis. It is important to detect the shadow areas and should be considered in the pre-processing of computer vision. In this paper, the method of shadow detection is proposed using cross entropy and intensity image, and is performed in single image based on the satellite images. After converting the color image to a gray level image, the shadow candidate region has been estimated the optimal threshold value by cross entropy, and then the final shadow region has been detected using intensity image. For the validity of the proposed method, the satellite images is used to experiment. Some experiments are conducted so as to verify the proposed method, and as a result, shadow detection is well performed.
