  • A number of theoretical researches have been done in recent years on the restoration of images and a variety of algorithms have been developed to implement noise reduction methods. However the blurring effect has not been perfectly overcome in the process of noise reduction. In this paper, we propose a new approach to image restoration that the blurring effect is significantly decreased and the performance of the noise reduction improves by eliminating the noise in the wavelet transform domain in comparison with the conventional noise reduction methods. The proposed algorithm performs much better than the conventional in the subjective image quality and PSNR performance. It is verified through computer simulations,

  • Currently there is much interested in removing latent charge that is caused to latent image effect and blurring of obtained image as well as reduction of x-ray conversion efficiency in digital radiography system. To remove latent charge a-Se film is irradiated by light with 3500 lux using halogen lamp and optical fiber. We measured dark current and photosensitivity to analyze removing effect of latent charge, then compared with and without light erasing method. The reduction of measured signal due to latent charge effect was 32.5 %, and the removal effect of latent charge by using light erase method was its 95.5 %.

  • The purpose of this paper is to improve ultrasound images using motion estimation and recursive filtering. Although averaging without motion correction can make image blurring, the proposed estimation method improves image SNR without motion blurring by recursively averaging images with motion correction. Computer simulation on the proposed method has been performed to improve phantom and ultrasound fish images and the results show the utility of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a new auto-focusing algorithm for digital cameras is proposed. One of the primary concerns of digital image processing is to increase image quality, and the most important factor for degrading the images is the blurring effect due to inexact focusing. The blurring effect occurs when the focusing lens is located on an unsuitable position. Therefore, focusing on an object should be proceeded before acquiring images. The proposed auto-focusing algorithm is MMDT(min-max difference threshold), and the performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by the use of the focus curve. It is shown that the proposed algorithm is superior to other previous auto-focusing algorithms in both the focus shape and computation time aspects. Especially, the improvement of the focus curve shape in both monotonousness and slope indicates that focusing can be done rapidly in comparison with other previous proposed algorithms.

  • In this paper, an efficient algorithm is developed to perform target rotational motion compensation to achieve the clear inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) image. The algorithm is based on a time-frequency technique. This algorithm provides an efficient method to resolve the blurring image caused by the time-varying behavior of the target scattering centers and leads to a well-focused ISAR image. Results demonstrate that the time-frequency techniques can improve the blurring ISAR image when an aircraft is in complex motion, such as maneuvering, rotation and acceleration.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-watermarking algorithm to satisfy two purposes: fragility against malicious attacks and robustness against non-malicious attacks. The algorithm can be used for image authentication using coefficients of Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT). In the proposed method, watermarks are generated by combining binary image with some features extracted from the subband LL3, and then they are embedded into both the spatial and frequency domain. That is, on the spatial domain they are embedded into the Least Significant Bit(LSB) of all pixels of image blocks, and on the frequency domain the coefficients of the subband LH2 and HL2 are adjusted according to the watermarks. Thus the algorithm not only resists malicious attack but also permits non-malicious attacks such as blurring, sharpening, and JPEG compression.

  • The purpose of image fusion is to combine the relevant information from a set of images into a single image, where the resultant fused image will be more informative and complete than any of the input images. Image fusion techniques can improve the quality and increase the application of these data important applications of the fusion of images include medical imaging, remote sensing, and robotics. In this paper, we suggest a new method to generate a fusion image using the close relation of image features obtained through maximum entropy threshold and mutual information. This method represents a good image registration in case of using a blurring image than other image fusion methods.

  • In the satellite remote sensing, the operational environment of the satellite sensor causes image degradation during the image acquisition. The degradation results in noise and blurring which badly affect identification and extraction of useful information in image data. Especially, the degradation gives bad influence in the analysis of images collected over the scene with complicate surface structure such as urban area. This study proposes a multi-stage image restoration to improve the accuracy of detailed analysis for the images collected over the complicate scene. The proposed method assumes a Gaussian additive noise, Markov random field of spatial continuity, and blurring proportional to the distance between the pixels. Point-Jacobian Iteration Maximum A Posteriori (PJI-MAP) estimation is employed to restore a degraded image. The multi-stage process includes the image segmentation performing region merging after pixel-linking. A dissimilarity coefficient combining homogeneity and contrast is proposed for image segmentation. In this study, the proposed method was quantitatively evaluated using simulation data and was also applied to the two panchromatic images of super-high resolution: Dubaisat-2 data of 1m resolution from LA, USA and KOMPSAT3 data of 0.7 m resolution from Daejeon in the Korean peninsula. The experimental results imply that it can improve analytical accuracy in the application of remote sensing high resolution panchromatic imagery.

  • This paper presents a localization perception of a phantom sound image for ultrahigh-definition TV with respect to various loudspeaker configurations; two-horizontal, two-vertical and triplet loudspeakers. Vector base amplitude panning algorithm with modification for non-equidistant loudspeaker setup is applied to create the phantom sound image. In order to practically study the localization performance in real situation, the listening tests were conducted at the on-axis and off-axis positions of TV in normal listening room. A method of adjustment which can reduce the ambiguity of a perceived angle is exploited to evaluate the angles of octave-band signals. The subjects changed the panning angle until the real sound source and virtually panned source were coincident. A spatial blurring can be measured by examining the differences of the panning angles perceived with respect to each band. The listening tests show that the triplet panning method has better performance than vertical panning in view of perceptual localization and spatial blurring at both on-axis and off-axis positions.
