Factors Influencing Vaccination in Korea: Findings From Focus Group Interviews

  • Objectives: Immunization is considered one of the most successful and cost-effective public health interventions protecting communities from preventable infectious diseases. The Korean government set up a dedicated workforce for national immunization in 2003, and since then has made strides in improving vaccination coverage across the nation. However, some groups remain relatively vulnerable and require intervention, and it is necessary to address unmet needs to prevent outbreaks of communicable diseases. This study was conducted to characterize persistent challenges to vaccination. Methods: The study adopted a qualitative method in accordance with the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research checklist. Three focus group interviews were conducted with 15 professionals in charge of vaccination-related duties. The interviews were conducted according to a semi-structured guideline, and thematic analysis was carried out. Data saturation was confirmed when the researchers agreed that no more new codes could be found. Results: A total of 4 main topics and 11 subtopics were introduced regarding barriers to vaccination. The main topics were vaccine hesitancy, personal circumstances, lack of information, and misclassification. Among them, vaccine hesitancy was confirmed to be the most significant factor impeding vaccination. It was also found that the factors hindering vaccination had changed over time and disproportionately affected certain groups. Conclusions: The study identified ongoing unmet needs and barriers to vaccination despite the accomplishments of the National Immunization Program. The results have implications for establishing tailored interventions that target context- and group-specific barriers to improve timely and complete vaccination coverage.

국립현대미술관 법인화에 관한 비용-편익분석 (A Cost-Benefit Analysis on Incorporating the Korea National Museum of Contemporary Art)

  • 본 연구는 정부의 공공기관선진화계획에 따라 국립현대미술관의 법인화에 대한 비용-편익분석을 실시하였다. 현상태(대안 1)와 법인화(대안 2)라는 두 가지 대안을 상정하고, 각 대안의 순현재가치를 비교하였다. 법인화 과정의 시나리오의 수를 줄이고, 국립현대미술관의 법인화의 현실적 수용성을 높이기 위해서 세 가지 전제를 상정하였다: (1) 법인화과정에서 인력구조조정 없음, (2) 인건비 상승, (3) 공공기능의 지속적 수행. 이러한 가정은 법인화에 대한 거부감 없이 적극적인 구조조정 참여를 유도하기 위한 것이기도 하며, 또한 법인화관련 정책적 방향과 의지를 반영하는 가정이라고 할 수 있다. 최종적인 대안의 선택은 순현재가치가 큰 대안이 우월한 대안으로 결정된다. 대안별로 다양한 시나리오의 조합이 가능하기 때문에, 최종적인 비교의 대상은 두 대안의 평균값의 상대적 크기이다. 결과적으로, 법인화의 순현재가치의 평균값이 현상태의 순현재가치의 평균값보다 현저하게 크다. 이는 할인율의 크기에 상관없이 성립하는 결과이다.

A Study on the Advertising Strategy Using 'Shin Hallyu' Cultural Content for Marketing Korean Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise Products Targeting Chinese Consumers

  • The "New Korean Wave" (Shin Hallyu) phenomenon, which is represented by the global popularity of BTS and director Bong Joon-ho's film "Parasite," is making the world excited. The influence of the Korean Wave is not only on politics, society, and culture, but it also has considerable economic ripple effects. We applied individual in-depth interviews with seven media and marketing experts in China to assess the changes in the impact of Korean cultural content (i.e., Hallyu content) and examine the possibility of marketing for Korean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) products using Hallyu content. Considering its massive market potential, China is still an attractive target for Korean companies and is of even greater importance to SMEs, which are highly dependent on exports and lacking marketing budgets as well as a professional workforce. Korean businesses and the economy at large would get a real boost if they could penetrate the Chinese market by utilizing the strength of Hallyu content. Based on the results of the in-depth interviews, the conclusion of our study suggests the direction of advertising strategy on how Korean products can attract the minds of Chinese consumers by utilizing the Shin Hallyu. This research is a practical study that diagnoses the reality of the Korean Wave in China objectively and has excellent practical implications as it proposes methods of how SMEs should use Hallyu for their marketing strategies.

Influence of Job Embeddedness and Resilience on Turnover Intention in Dental Hygienists

  • Background: Maintaining a skilled workforce by minimizing the turnover of competent dental hygienists is very important for securing dental competitiveness. Therefore, it is necessary to find a predictor of turnover and lower turnover intention. To understand dental hygienist turnover, it is necessary to study the resilience, a positive factor of personal characteristics and job embeddedness that induces residual tissue. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of dental hygienists' job embeddedness and resilience on turnover intention. Methods: A survey was conducted on licensed dental hygienists nationwide, from March 19 to July 19, 2020. T-test and one way ANOVA analysis were performed to compare the job embeddedness, resilience, and turnover intention according to the general characteristics. Pearson's correlation analysis was performed to identify the correlation between job embeddedness, resilience, and turnover intention. Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the effect on the turnover intention. Results: Job embeddedness was the highest with link and resilience scoring 3.57 and 4.16, respectively. The turnover intention scored 3.53. Among the general characteristics, age, marriage, total dental clinic career, education degree, and position showed statistically significant differences in job embeddedness, resilience, and turnover intention. Suitability, link, and sacrifice of job embeddedness were shown to affect the degree of turnover intention, with an explanatory power of 26.2%. Conclusion: In order to reduce the dental hygienists' turnover intention, job embeddedness and resilience should be increased. Thus, measures should be undertaken for professional and systematic program development and human resources management.

사회취약 독거노인 주택의 맞춤형 개조 현장상황 기술 연구 (A Descriptive Research on Field Situation of Customized Modification for Vulnerable Single Elderly Home)

  • Elderly population has increased rapidly and adjusting the environment is in demand to support their health. To improve the living environment of elderly, an appropriate plan for customized home modification is needed upon the personal contexts. The purpose of this study is to explain the sequence and to build an insight on customized home modification for vulnerable single elderly. It is a case study based on single target that includes 6 months of execution period deeply seeking the appropriate plan for implementation. The target is a male elderly aged 74 living in a single story detached house. The various research methods are applied in this study including exploratory, participatory, action and trade-off preference researches. The result shows that plan for home modification is complex outcome of interlocking uniqueness between residence environment and resident situation. If customized modification is targeted for residentially vulnerable social group, more sensitive approach aiming for the highest result is required due to financial constraint. To conclude, comprehensive understanding of overall circumstances of a dwelling, a resident and various stakeholder is essential throughout the process. Since the aging-in-place of elderly cannot be achieved without self-sustaining living environment, customized home modification should be a tool to meet housing suitability. It is important to strengthen the experts and future workforce with networks of local residents to share opinions and appropriate plans.

콩 재배농가의 경영효율성에 영향을 주는 원인분석 (Analysis on Factors of Management Efficiency for Bean Farm Households)

  • 본 연구는 콩 농가들의 경영효율성을 분석하고 이 경영효율성에 미치는 요인을 제시함에 목적이 있다. 분석결과 재배면적이 넓을수록 콩 규모효율성에 정(+)의 효과를 주지만 규모수익체증을 해야 하는 농가가 대부분이었다. 노동력과 관련성이 큰 자가노력비, 임차료, 고용노력비를 합하면 54.6%로 생산비의 절반이상을 차지하고 있으며 점차 증가하는 추세에 있다. 또한 고용노동비율이 높을수록 총효율성, 기술효율성, 규모효율성에 긍정적인 영향을 미치므로 효율적인 노동력 이용과 확보가 중요하다. 친환경농업의 척도인 유기질비료 비율은 총효율성과 배분효율성을 떨어뜨리고 관행농업의 척도인 농약비는 총효율성과 배분효율성을 높이는 것으로 분석되었지만 무기질비료 투입과 농약 저투입을 통한 고품질 농산물 가격을 반영하지 않아 향후 이를 반영한 연구가 필요하다.

여성이 운영하는 목공방 창업에 관한 연구 (Study on the Foundation of a Carpentry Studio Run by a Female Owner)

  • According to the research on the gender ratio of furniture design courses at universities, female students account for 70 to 80 percent of the total enrollments. Likewise, other design courses reveal the similar trend. Even though female students want to build up their career in the furniture design or related fields, the figure is not so high. There is a trend that many female designers tend to take time off or quite their jobs after their marriage for that reasons such as pregnancy, childbirth, the upbringing of children and so on. The study also shows that women with higher education feel more difficult to resume their careers after being left from economic activity for a long period; this results in the lower figure of women involved in the specialized jobs than men. In particular, the furniture companies avoid hiring old female designers because they believe that younger candidates are more capable of learning the latest style; therefore, it has become harder for the job seeks to win the competition in the job market. The data released by Statistics Korea in 2015 shows that there was the higher increase in female employees than the figure of the male workers, compared to the previous year. As it can be seen, female workforce was emerged as the new growth power; Nevertheless, the working environment and conditions haven't meet the demands from women despite the gradual rise of female job seekers inspired by their wish to achieve self-realization, gender equality. To conclude, this is to suggest the plans for the foundation and management of small-scale carpentry studios so that women, who have a degree in furniture design studies and wish to resume their careers after their long breaks, start their own carpentry studios so as to reach self-realization and feel satisfied with their work while earning their livelihoods.

TRANSCOST를 이용한 한국형발사체의 생산 및 운용 비용 추정 (Estimation of Production and Operation Cost of KSLV-II using TRANSCOST)

  • 우주발사체 개발은 우주 선진국으로 도약하기 위해 반드시 필요한 중요한 사업이며 막대한 비용과 장기간의 개발기간이 소요되는 만큼 위험이 존재한다. 성공적이고 효율적인 우주발사체 개발을 위해서는 적절한 개발 비용 산정이 중요하다. 또한, 우주발사체를 상업용 발사체로 활용하기 위해서는 다른 우주발사체와의 경쟁력 비교를 위해 생산 및 운용 비용의 추정도 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 한국에서 개발되는 우주발사체의 생산 및 운용 비용을 추정할 수 있도록 한국의 인력 및 기술 수준, 평균 작업시간 등과 같은 요소를 반영할 수 있는 한국화요소에 대해 분석하였다. 또한, 한국화요소를 적용하여 KSLV-II의 생산 및 운용 비용을 추정해보고 해외 발사체의 발사 비용과 비교를 통해 발사체 서비스 시장에서 상업용 발사체로서 경쟁력을 평가하였다.

체육관련학 전공자의 역량과 노동시장 분석 (The competency and employ ability prospects of students majoring in sports & recreation)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 체육관련 전공자들의 역량과 노동시장에서의 고용구조를 조사하는데 있다. 대학수학능력시험 성적을 등급으로 공시한 각 학교별 자료를 분석해보면, 대학수학능력 시험의 2등급에 속한 학교는 1개교이며, 3등급에는 11개 학교가, 4등급에는 32개교가, 5등급에 15개교가, 6등급에 5개교가 속하였다. 대학수학능력시험 등급이 우수한 학교의 경우 소재지가 수도권이거나 체육교사의 교원자격증이 부여되는 사범계열학과의 대학수학능력시험 등급이 상대적으로 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 체육계열 대학생의 역량을 세분화 하여 분석한 결과 인지능력 3.30, 신체능력 3.88, 사회성 3.61, 경영능력 3.21, 정서능력 3.52로 나타났다. 국가자격에 의해 고용되는 직종은 생활체육지도자 또는 경기지도자, 스포츠강사, 퍼스널트레이너 등 비정규직의 취약한 고용구조로 연결되었다.

북한 임상검사인력에 대한 고찰 (A Review on the Clinical Laboratory Personnel in North Korea)

  • 북한과 남한은 임상검사실 인력구조에서 차이가 있다. 북한에서는 남한의 '임상병리사'에 해당하는 유사인력을 '실험의사(검사의사)'라고 호칭한다. 본 연구자들은 탈북 보건의료인의 증언을 바탕으로 한 선행연구를 고찰해 보면, 검사의사(laboratory doctor)의 신분은 의사(physician)와 준의(feldsher, physician assistant)일 것이라고 사료된다. 의사와 준의는 5.5년제 의학대학 및 3년제 의학전문학교에서 양성되고 있다. 북한의 보건의료인력체계는 남한의 경우처럼 보건전문가들의 전문영역별 업무나 교육, 자격 및 법률이 세분화되어 있지 않다. 대한임상병리사협회는 한반도 통일을 대비하여 유관 단체와 함께 정책연구를 통해서 북한 임상검사인력에 대한 직제 전문화 구축과 발전 방향을 상호 모색해야 할 것으로 사료된다.
