  • Simple statistical frequency based analysis, such as Pareto analysis, are widely used in conventional accident analysis. However, due to the dynamic and complex nature of construction works, many factors can simultaneously affect or involve the occurrence of accidents in construction projects. Therefore, the identification of the complex relationship between such factors is important to establish relevant and effective safety management policies and/or programs. In this study, characteristic factors and their relationships' contribution to non-fatal accidents in construction projects are analyzed using the association rule mining (ARM) technique. To this end, a total of 59,202 construction accident data are collected from 2015 to 2019 and the ARM is performed to retrieve specific relationships -named as association rules-among classified factors in the data. Characteristics of the retrieved relationships are analyzed and compared with the results of conventional Pareto analysis. Based on the results, it is found that both fall and trip are notable accident forms having characteristic relations with other factors for non-fatal accidents in construction projects. It is also found that small-scale construction, age of 50s, less than 1 month of working period, and architectural construction are important factors for non-fatal accidents in construction projects.

  • This study targets Korean culture theme park in Yeongju-Zone and World confucian scholar culture park in Bonghwa-Zone among the Three Major Cultural Areas Projects supervised by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The study analyzes the Historical and Cultural Authenticity of each project on the basis of the reports and the report materials for meeting with related organizations. The results of the study are drawn as follows. First, through the theoretical consideration, this study drew the types of authenticity: originality, identity, specificity and visibility, which are evaluation items on the Historical and Cultural Authenticity. Second, Bonghwa-Zone succeeded in acquiring originality with tangible cultural properties but Yeongju-Zone chose a project site without it. Third, with originality, Bonghwa-zone was evaluated as having resources and concept with high traditional culture connectivity and fulfilled identity. It led the feature showing the high affinity between originality and identity. Fourth, compared to the projects of Andong-Zone in the Three Major Cultural Areas Projects, these two projects failed to acquire the distinctions since the primary and the secondary influence area and major facilities & programs coincided with those of the projects of Andong-Zone. Fifth, compared to Bonghwa-Zone, Yeongju-Zone realized visibility faithfully by the conceptual flexibility of "Korean Culture" and a large-scale development. Sixth, in terms of the Historical and Cultural Authenticity of project plan, it is evaluated that Yeongju-Zone and Bonghwa-Zone only fulfilled visibility and specificity respectively.

  • The Risks in undertaking a construction project comes from many sources and often involves many participants in the project. This study has identified various kinds of risks, assessed the risk factors quantitatively and suggested risk management method for response pertinent in Design Build(Turn Key)type of projects in Korean context. A questionnaire was designed comprising of 145 possible risks in all types of construction projects. The population from owner, consultant and contractor groups was asked to indicate the risks applicable in DB projects. 25 numbers of critical risks in DB projects were identified and further analyzed for reveling inherent relationship between them through factor analysis. Factor analysis revealed 8 risk factors in DB projects. Construction site related, contract related and design related risk factor consisted about 72% of total risk weight. It has been found out about 6%, while considering the mutual dependency, it is about 10% of total cost of DB project. Therefore, It is suggested that 6% to 10% of construction amount as contingency has to be made provision for risk responses in the DB projects.

  • COVID-19, which is currently in vogue, is a pandemic with the largest number of deaths since the establishment of the "World Health Organization". It is also expected to have a significant impact on countless construction projects. After COVID-19 hit the construction industry, the risk that they needed to cover, decreased every year. However, the prolonged COVID-19 increased the risks of air delays, material supply, and economic losses. The exact measurements will be needed to be identified and the risks of the current construction projects must have a mitigated risk with a greater proportion. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze and identify the risks that have influenced construction projects to the domestic construction companies due to COVID-19. Based on the risks of the previous construction projects, risk case studies, and risks related to COVID-19, are extracted through surveys, weights. Each risk factor are calculated based on the AHP analysis technique. Thus, it is expected that the results of the risk research on construction projects will change due to COVID-19. It will be presented to cope with the current situation and later pandemic situations.

  • In selecting the best project in multi-criteria decision making problems, the imperfect information of consequence and the vague preference of the decision maker(DM) would make the decision analysis more complex together with the conflict of several criteria. In this context, a method is proposed to deal the fuzzy information mentioned before instead of reducing it to a single representative value. And, based on the given imprecise information, projects are ranked completely or partially according to DM's vague preference. The procedure consists, for each pair of projects, of calculating the degree of supporting over all criteria and the degree of opposing with respect to each criterion for their outranking relation. Together with weights for each criterion, these indices produce fuzzy outranking relations for each pair of projects. And a complete or partial ranking of projects is obtained according to outranking degrees considering the interdependence among projects.

  • Agile methods are highly attractive for small projects, but no agile method works well as a standalone system. Therefore, some adaption or customization is always required. In this paper, the Agile Framework for Small Projects (AFSP) was applied to four industry cases. The AFSP provides a structured way for software organizations to adopt agile practices and evaluate the results. The framework includes an extended Scrum process and agile practices, which are based on agility and critical success factors in agile software projects that are selected from Scrum, XP, FDD, DSDM and Crystal Clear. AFSP also helps software managers and developers effectively use agile engineering techniques throughout the software development lifecycle. The case study projects were evaluated on the basis of risk-based agility factors, the agility of the adopted practices, agile adoption levels, and the degree of the agile project success. The analysis of the results showed that the framework used in the aforementioned cases was effective.

  • Information system(IS) development projects are mostly unique in terms of the characteristics of projects such as project requirements, customers, project members, and development environment. Therefore, it is very hara by nature, to manage the development process systematically. In addition the long-term enlarged scale projects with more complexity and specificity required have brought in much more risk factors than before. The paper recognized risk factors in IS development projects and measured the importance of those risk factors using the AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process) method. The results can be used in the risk management of IS development projects.

  • Cost estimate system Will be changed from the prime. cost calculation to the historical cost data because the present system has some problems. In this situation, each owner should prepare his own cost estimate system based on the historical cost data. In this study, the standard work items were classified and the criteria of their work amount computation were established for rural improvement projects. And also the historical cost data were collected in all range of rural improvement projects, and the database system, "HICOMS" (HIstorical COst data Management System) was built. In order to test the applicability of the HICOMS, standard work cost and contractor cost were compared. The results by HICOMS showed high significance and it was concluded that the HICOMS could be applicable for the cost estimate of the rural improvement projects. projects.
