  • As the number of users of SNS (Social Network Service) and smart devices increases sharply nowadays, many studies on various teaching models and methodologies have been made in order to utilize SNS in education. However, there are not so sufficient studies that explore social media as a learning environment and analyze empirically its relation with the academic achievement. Since various kinds of learning experiences are required in order to foster creative talents, it is necessary to have information sharing, debate and information exchange utilizing SNS. If utilizing SNS for general computer education in a university, it will be possible to collect learners' various thoughts and opinions more effectively. Because real-time feedback can be possible in each individual space through SNS by sharing the information related to the interactions between learner and teacher or between leaner and learner and exchanging opinions each other, the learner's ability to utilize a computer can be improved. Especially SNS can provide a real-time help to solve problems for underachieved students and provide an opportunity to improve the academic achievement.

  • Communication education research has focused on the effects of instructor characteristics on learning. It is necessary to consider student characteristics as well to develop an effective teaching strategy. The current study tries to classify students into multiple distinct groups depending on their personality traits and communication characteristics and investigates differences in effects of teacher characteristics between those groups. A survey on unversity students was conducted to collect data. A cluster analysis was carried out to identify distint sub-groups of respondents by their personality traits and communication characteristics. The analysis yielded two distinct groups. The two groups were named stable-reticent group', and 'neurotic-talkative group' respectivley. Series of multiple regression were carried out in order to investigate differences in the effects of instructor characteristics. The analyses found different patterns of effects between the two sub-groups. The findings suggest that it is necessary to adopt different communication styles and teaching strategies depending on student types.

  • In these days, science is too complex and comprehensive scientific practices to be reduced to scientific knowledge. Also it's actors go beyond the limit of scientist society to the broad range of supporting system scientific journalism, education, and business. Science is very important cultural practice of our times. This Study focus on the effect of interdisciplinary approach in understanding modern science culture. First, this paper suggest the approach of public understanding of science(PUS) as a framework PUS has provided new perspectives for the relation of scientific knowledge and understanding. Traditional approach(so-called 'deficit model') regarded understanding as mere transportation of scientific knowledge. So it may be called 'knowledge-oriented approach' to understanding. But PUS consider understanding process of 'dynamic reconstructing' which is occurred in complex socio-cultural context. Second, this article analysis the Korea University STS course(2002-2003) 'Science Technology & Society' as the case study. The case study examine how interdisciplinary approach help students to understand 'sciene in the making'.

  • Film literacy comprises the process of producing a new creation through understanding the elements that make up a film, the content of a film, and a critical and creative thinking process. Film literacy is employed in fields such as composition, science, social studies, and geography, and, additionally, it is used to cultivate humanities literacy and critical thinking skills. Yet despite the large proportion of the film script in the movie, it is not easy to find literacy education cases that use film English as a teaching method. Film English is a practical and authentic material, and is suitable as an English learning material in an EFL context like Korea. However, the approach of using films to teach and learn differs according to the content and genre of a film. Thus, the teacher may have a difficult time organizing and preparing for class. This study suggests six class activities that can be commonly applied to English classes using films based on the areas of critical, cultural, and creative (3Cs) activities. Four hundred and five college students taking Movie English classes participated in the present study and frequency analysis was conducted to find out their preferences through a questionnaire survey. The results from conducting class activities in university liberal arts classes suggest that the most preferred activities of students are related to cultural, critical, and creative, in that order. Creative activities that are far beyond English instruction utilizing various digital tools or providing additional reading materials can be a burden on learners.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest some direction to support learning of students in college of engineering. It results from the assumption that engineering education accreditation should come with assessment of the educational process. To analyze the learning process, this study analyzed 5 categories - involvement in and out of instruction, faculty-student interaction, teaching-learning outcomes, and the system of student support. The Research method was questionnaire, and T-test and hierarchical linear model were used. The major findings are as follows. Major-level of satisfaction in teaching-learning and optional-level of satisfaction in teaching-learning are good. But the degree of self-directed learning activities and student-faculty interaction is low, and writing attitude and learning outcomes are not good. Student-faculty interaction, high-order thinking activities and active involvement have a good influence on learning outcomes. So this study suggests to enhance active involvement in instruction, high-order thinking activities, writing skills, and interaction with faculty for the improvement of quality of higher education.
