A Study on Determinants of Participants' Satisfaction in Information System Development Project: Focused on Outsourcing Project Participants' Satisfaction (정보시스템 개발 프로젝트 참여 만족도 결정요인에 관한 연구: SI 프로젝트 참여인력 만족도 중심으로)

  • The chronic problems of Information System Outsourcing Development Project include frequent changes in the participants and their roles, and the evasion of project participation, which exert unfavorable influence to the outcome of the project. Such problems are due, in large part, to the low level of project participants' satisfaction in the project. However, little is known about the factors that influence project participants' satisfaction in the project development. This research identifies six potential factors such as project commitment, workload, control, communication within the organization, inter-organization communication, and system development methodology based on PMI(Project Management Institute) and empirically examines their efficacy in explaining the level of participants' satisfaction in the IS development projects based on data from 390 participants in 66 projects. The results indicate that the six factors are strong determinants of participants' satisfaction in system development projects. In other words, the level of satisfaction among project participants overall are largely influenced by project commitment and control, communication, project methodology. Especially, the results reveal that the level of satisfaction among participants from the vendor decreased largely by unrealistic project commitment, frequent changes in project planning and unreasonable control rather than by a significant amount of workload. In conclusion, there need to be a rational approach and solution based on the six factors presented in this research in order to increase participation satisfaction level of the project participants and ultimately enhance project outcome.

A Study on Analytical Framework of Value Added Logistics throughout closed-loop logistics (부가가치 물류의 분석적 체계에 대한 연구)

  • The meaning of "added value" refers to the contribution of the factors of production, i.e., land, labor, and capital goods, to raising the value of a product and corresponds to the incomes received by the owners of these factors. The importance of added value in service industry has been recognized as one of the critical factors to economic growth, even in logistics industry. But, it is hard to find out the previous studies providing a clear definition and framework for designing and analyzing the performance of Value Added Logistics(VAL). The purpose of this study is to define the meaning of extended VAL that extensively includes activities initiating and operating the reverse logistics under the closed-loop logistic scheme, and to suggest the framework that describes the partnerships among participants involving in operating the value added logistics. Also, in this paper, we emphasize on the need for investigation of added value logistics definition and framework based on previous academic studies, and examine various value added logistics service activities of current leading 3PL companies across the world. Finally, we suggest the analytic framework for value added logistics throughout closed-loop logistics.

The Process of Open Innovation Launching at LG Chem and the Limit of OI Application to Korean Firms (LG화학의 개방형 혁신 도입과정과 우리나라 기업에의 적용에 관한 고찰)

  • Concept of Open Innovation (OI) has recently prevailed in academia and industry as a model for increase in R&D productivity. This concept which in turn leads to an improvement in R&D investment efficiency has therefore drawn many firms to adopt this new model. And this has been the same for Korean firms since the extensive introduction of the OI concept in the early 2009. Yet, the problem with this is that the Korean firms do not know much about this concept in practice: what causes OI to occur, what the intended purpose of its introduction is, what proper procedures to take for a successful introduction, and so on. Based on LG Chem’s Open Innovation movement case which ignited in the late 2006, this paper answers the questions previously raised. The successful introduction was made possible by taking a proper procedure of change management along with a strong support from its senior management. This paper also identifies how the OI movement, which was a way to introduce new technology from the outside, has acted as a catalyst in forming a cooperative R&D atmosphere in LG Chem, and how the role of OI has transformed into a strategic tool for organization change.

Evaluating the perception of logistic firms and shipper on the relationship between contract term and service performance in logistics outsourcing service (물류아웃소싱 서비스에서 계약서 조항과 성과 간 관계에 대한 물류기업과 화주기업의 인식 비교 분석)

  • This study is based on precedent research on contract fairness to prevent irrational contract practices and enable long term mutual interests between logistic firms and shipper. Actual unjust contract examples were identified in order to help create this positive partnership. An analysis on the difference of perspective proved that while the logistics companies believed on the positive effects of the presence of additional expense clauses & potential risk clauses, the very same companies believed that the concretization of procedural & distributional equitability clauses will cause positive effects on the partnership between the logistics companies and the shipper. On the other hand, concretizationof the expense clauses brings about a negative effect for the shipper company. Also, the perspective of a logistics company appears that such results were identical to the empirical study which had a positiveeffect. However, the shipping company had a negative and a rather opposite point of view. These researches prove that there should be an alteration in perception for the shipper company. It is believed that the comparison of the results of this research and the leading researches may provide grounds for thought-provoking suggestions that must be concretized and also for those in need for further settlement for drafting the standardized logistics contract and its logistics.

Determinants and Processes of IT Consolidation: A Case Study of Korean Conglomerates (IT 통합의 결정 요인과 과정: 국내 대기업들에 대한 사례 연구)

  • This study explores the determinants and processes of IT consolidation of Korean conglomerates. Through an extensive analysis of cases, this study identifies the drivers, benefits and critical success factors of IT consolidation, and observes the transition of vision for the IT service subsidiaries in the conglomerates. The results show that most firms in this analysis have completed the organizational, physical, and logical consolidation of their IT resources, and currently some of them are preparing for the next stage of IT consolidation such as rational consolidation and virtualization. It is also found that the strategic factor was one of the most significant determinants in consolidating IT resources which leaded the transition of vision of the IT service firms in the conglomerates from "cost center" to "profit center". The results of this study can provide a fundamental and empirical basis for building a theory of IT consolidation, and be used as a valuable benchmarking model for the organizations which consider starting a project of IT consolidation.

  • In recent years, many small and medium-sized manufacturing companies are making process innovation and product innovation through the public knowledge services. K Research institute provides different types of knowledge services in combination and due to this complexity, it is difficult to analyze the performance of knowledge service programs precisely. In this study, we derived performance items from bottom-up viewpoints, rather than top-down approaches selecting those items as in previous performance analysis. As a result, 74 items were finded from 82 companies in the K Research Institute case book, and the final result was refined to 17 items. After that a case-performance matrix was constructed, and binary data was entered to analyze. As a result, three clusters were identified through K-means clustering as 'enhancement of core competitiveness (product and patent),' 'expansion of domestic and overseas market,' and 'improvement of operational efficiency.'

A Study on the Technology Acceptance Factors of the Public Cloud Computing Services (공공 클라우드 컴퓨팅 서비스의 기술수용 결정요인 연구)

  • Cloud computing services have became an hot issues in business fields while the IT-related global company such as Amazon, MS, and Google took part in. The cloud computing makes it possible to share in the form of outsourcing of hardware and software through the Internet, to build a distributed computing environment via multiple terminals, and to reduce the cost using open source. Such a cloud computing services have not shown any significant growth in Korea yet compared to other countries. Therefore, in this study focusing on public cloud computing services, it is intended to analyze the determinants of public cloud computing services using the technology model. Thus, for users using public cloud services, we conducted a questionnaire survey from the beginning of January 2013 to the end of February 2013. And we derived a research model based on the Technology Acceptance Model(TAM). As a result of this study, it shows that personal aspects significantly impacts on the perceived usability, service aspects, systems aspects, and the intent of the technology acceptances. System aspects significantly effect on the intent of technology acceptances. Perceived usability significantly effects on the service aspects and the systems aspects. The main factors effecting on the intent of the technology acceptances are system aspects and perceived usability in order. And it shows that the personal aspects decreases the intent of the technology acceptances.

  • Outsourcing enables firms to use external resources in efficient and effective manner by adopting the best practice of industry. It also helps firms improve their business process which may result in seizing or creating new business opportunity. Collaborating with outstanding BPO(business process outsourcing) providers offer a great deal of advantage that could access to new knowledge, technology, intellectual and material resources that firms do not own. This study was designed to provide in-dept understanding of key elements that may affect the attitude towards BPO of entrepreneurs using 99 samples comprised SME & Venture business owners. Specifically, this study aims to test and analyse the relationship between attitude towards BPO and 4 independent variables including cost reduction, core competence, specialized resources and quality improvement. The analysis results show that core competence, specialized resources and quality improvements have all positive relationships with the attitude towards BPO. However, exceptionally cost reduction is not associated positively with the attitude towards BPO which was against our expectation. Theoretical discussion and practical implication on the analysis results are provided.

IT Governance of the Korean Conglomerates: A Comparative Case Study (국내 대기업들의 IT 거버넌스: 비교 사례 연구)

  • This study explores the IT governance structures of the Korean conglomerates. It investigates IT organization structures, decision making frameworks and processes, communication channels, implementation mechanisms, and performance evaluation methods around IT activities of the Korean conglomerates by analyzing four different cases. The results show that all of the conglomerates have an IT service firms as one of their subsidiaries, and all the subsidiaries in the conglomerates outsource their IT divisions to the IT service firms, The client firms in the conglomerates operate IT strategy and planning teams to coordinate their IT activities with their outsourcing partners. The IT governance archetype of the Korean conglomerates is found to be "business monarchy" because the client firms mostly make IT decisions. However, the IT service firms provide the information of IT trends and solutions to their clients, so the IT governance archetype of input framework for IT decisions can be "IT monarchy". In addition, the conglomerate which has the more centralized IT governance architecture appears to prefer the more integrated implementation mechanisms for IT decisions. The results of this study are expected to be used as a benchmarking model for the organizations which try to develop an effective IT governance structure.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the effective method to improve the competitive power in the Busan container terminal. To achieve this, we analyzed the present of the shift pattern in the container terminal, and identified the problems in the pattern. This study shows the issues of shift pattern for field employee in Busan container terminal and also improvement plan to solve them. We suggested two approaches as an effective approach; the flexible use of employees through overtime, use of workers pool among terminals, and outsourcing; the promotion of welfare by leisure, fitness, and community service.
