A new BIST(Built-In Self-Test) scheme to test ADC(Analog-to-Digital Converter) with a transition detector is proposed. The proposed BIST is able to replaces histogram method, the most popular approach in static testing of ADC. With a ramp signal as an input test stimulus, the proposed BIST calculates ADC's static parameters such as offset, gain, INL(Integral Non-Linearity) and DNL(Differential Non-Linearity). The three detectors in the proposed BIST can deal with a transient zone problem, a phenomenon due to random noise in real test environments and are cost efficient at various acceptable ranges determined as a test spec. The simulation results validate that our method performs accurate static test and show the reduction of the hardware overhead.

In this thesis, a modified interpolation-2 6-bit 70MHz ADC is proposed minimizing chip area and power consumption, which includes an error correction circuit. The conventional flash ADC without interpolation comparators suffers from large chip area and more power consumption due to 2n resistors and 2n-1 comparators. Although the flash ADC with interpolation-4 comparators has small area, SNR, INL and DNL are degraded by comparison with the interpolation -2 comparator. We fabricated the proposed 6-bit ADC with interpolation-2 comparators using 0.18${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS process. The ADC is composed of 32-resistors, 31 comparators, amplifiers, latches, error correction circuit, thermometer code detector and encoder As the results, power consumption is reduced to 40mW at 3.3V which is saving about 50% than a flash ADC without interpolation comparators, and area is reduced by 20%. SNR is increased by 75% in comparison with that of a flash ADC with interpolation-4 comparators.

In this paper, Pipelined A/D converter with multi SHA structure is proposed for high speed operation. The proposed structure incorporates a multi SHA block that consists of multiple SHAs of identical characteristics in parallel to improve the conversion speed. The designed multi SHA is operated by non-overlapping clocks and the sampling speed can be improved by increasing the number of multiplexed SHAs. Pipelined A/D converter, applying the proposed structure, is designed to satisfy requirement of analog front-end of VDSL modem. The measured INL and DNL of designed A/D converter are $0.52LSB{\sim}-0.50LSB\;and\;0.80LSB{\sim}-0.76LSB$, respectively. It satisfies the design specifications for VDSL modems. The simulated SNR is about 66dB which corresponds to a 10.7 bit resolution. The power consumption is 24.32mW.

A CMOS 8 bit folding and interpolating ADC for an embedded system inside VLSI is presented in this paper. This folding ADC uses the 2 stage architecture for improving of nonlinearity. repeating the folding and interpolating twice. At a proposed structure, a transistor differential pair operates on the second folder. A ADC with 2 stage architecture reduces the number of comparators and resisters. So it is possible to provide small chip size, low power consumption and high operating speed. The design technology is based on fully standard 0.25m double-Poly 2 metal n-well CMOS Process. The simulated Power consumption is 45mW with an applied voltage of 2.5V and sampling frequency of 250MHz. The INL and DNL are within <ㅆㄸㅌ>$\pm$0.2LSB, respectively. The SNDR is approximately 45dB for input frequency of 10MHz.

This paper proposes a charge-pump phase-locked loop (PLL) with 51-phase output clock of a 125 MHz target frequency. The proposed PLL uses three voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs) to generate 51-phase clock and increase of maximum operating frequency. The 17 delay-cells consists of each VCO, and a resistor averaging scheme which reduces the phase mismatch among 51-phase clock combines three VCOs. The proposed PLL uses a 65 nm 1-poly 9-metal CMOS process with 1.0 V supply. The simulated peak-to-peak 지터 of output clock is 0.82 ps at an operating frequency of 125 MHz. The differential non-linearity (DNL) and integral non-linearity (INL) of the 51-phase output clock are -0.013/+0.012 LSB and -0.033/+0.041 LSB, respectively. The operating frequency range is 15 to 210 MHz. The area and power consumption of the implemented PLL are $580{\times}160{\mu}m^2$ and 3.48 mW, respectively.

This paper proposes a 12-bit SAR A/D(Successive Approximation Register Analog-to-Digital) converter that operates at low power for bio-signal and sensor signal processing. The conventional SAR A/D converter utilized the reduction of the dynamic current, which resulted in reducing total power consumption. In order to solve the limitation of the sampling time due to charging/discharging of the capacitor for reducing dynamic current, the different sampling time on the C-DAC bit switch operation was applied to reduce the dynamic current. In addition, lowering the supply voltage of the digital block to 0.6V led to 70% reduction of the total power consumption of the proposed ADC. The proposed SAR A/D was implemented with CMOS 65nm process 1-poly 6-metal, operates with a supply voltage of 1.2V. The simulation results demonstrate that ENOB, DNL/INL, power consumption and FoM are 10.4 bits, ±0.5LSB./±1.2LSB, 31.2uW and 2.8fJ/step, respectively.

This paper presents a time-to-digital converter for measuring absolute time differences. The time-to-digital converter was designed and fabricated in 0.18-um CMOS technology and it can be applied to Light Detection and Ranging system which requires long time-cover range and 50ps time resolution. Since designed time-to-digital converter adopted the reference clock of 625MHz generated by phase locked loop, it could have absolute time resolution of 50ps after automatic calibration and its cover range was over than 800ns. The time-to-digital converter adopted a counter and chain delay lines for time measurement. The counter is used for coarse time measurement and chain delay lines are used for fine time measurement. From many times experiments, fabricated time-to-digital converter has 50 ps time resolution with maximum INL of 0.8 LSB and its power consumption is about 70 mW.
In this paper, an A/D converter is implemented to obtain 8bit resolution at a conversion rate of 10Msample/s. This architecture is proposed using the 2-step architecture for high speed conversion rate. It is consisted of sample/hold circuit, low power comparator, voltage reference circuit and DAC of binary weighted capacitor array. Proposed A/D converter is designed using 0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology. The SNR is 45.3dB at a sampling rate of 10MHz with 1.95MHz sine input signal. When an 8bit 10Msample/s A/D converter is simulated, the Differential Nonlinearity / Integral Nonlinearity (DNL/ INL) error are ${\pm}$1 / ${\pm}$2 LSB, respectively. The power consumption is 13㎽ at single +2.5V supply voltage.
