Beam-Like Ship Vibration Analysis in Consideration of Fluid (유체력을 고려한 보-유추 선체진동 해석)

  • In the beam-like ship vibration analysis. three-dimensional correction factor(J-factor) can be calculated by considering the three-dimensional effect of the two-dimensional added mass. However, existing method is time-consuming with low accuracy in respect of global vibration analyses for vessels with large breadth. In this paper, to improve the demerit of the previous method, a new method of the beam-like ship vibration analysis is introduced In this method. the three-dimensional fluid added mass of surrounding water is calculated directly by solving the velocity potential problem using the Boundary Element Method (BEM). Then the three-dimensional added mass is evaluated as the lumped mass for each strip. Also, the beam-like ship vibration analysis for the structural beam model if performed with the lumped mass considered. It was verified that this new method is useful for the beam-like ship vibration analysis by comparing results obtained from both the existing method and the new method with experimental measurements for the open top container model.

Design and Fabrication of 40 ㎓ MMIC Double Balanced Star Mixer using Novel Balun (새로운 발룬 회로를 이용한 40 ㎓ 대역 MMIC 이중 평형 Star 혼합기의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, MMIC double balanced star mixer for 40 ㎓ was implemented on GaAs substrate with backside vias. In the design of the MMIC mixer, the design of balun and diode was required. A novel balun structure using microstrip to CPS was presented. The 40 ㎓ balun was designed based on the design experience of the scale-down balun by 2 ㎓. The balun may be suitable for fabrication in MMIC process with backside via and can easily be applied for DBM(Double Balanced Mixer). A Schottky diode was designed and implemented using p-HEMT process considering the compatability with other high frequency MMIC's fabricated on p-HEMT base process. Finally, the double balanced star mixer was fabricated using the balun and the p=HEMP Schottky diode. The measured performance of mixer shows 30 ㏈ conversion loss at 18 ㏈m LO power. This insufficient performance is caused by the unwanted diode at AlGaAs junction in vertical structure of p-HEMT. If the p-HEMT's gate is recessed to AlGaAs layer, and so the diode is eliminated, the mixer's performances will be improved.

  • Despite dentistry's attempts to improve the dental health of the public and to minimize the effects of caries, many children still present with extensive destruction of primary anterior teeth. One of dentistry's most challenging tasks is to repair these teeth with restoration which are durable, retentive, and esthetic. Esthetic restoration can often be achieved with polycarbonate crowns, strip crowns, conventional S-S crowns, open-faced S-S crowns, commercially veneered S-S crowns. But, all of these have limitation. Advances in restorative materials and metal-bonding procedures have made possible new restorative techniques that combine the advantages of S-S crowns with the cosmetics of composite restoration methods. The described technique of bonding composite to trimmed and fitted S-S crowns offers many advantages over other techniques currently used to restore primary anterior teeth. 1. If S-S crowns are accurate trimmed and contoured, good retention of crowns is achieved. 2. The patient time required is similar to that of conventional S-S crowns. 3. Good esthetics and high bond strengths are achieved. 4. It is possible to use this veneering technique intraorally on crowns that have fractured veneers.

East Reconstruction of 3D Human Model from Contour Lines (외곽선을 이용한 고속 3차원 인체모델 재구성)

  • In order to create three-dimensional model for human body, a method that reconstructs geometric models from contour lines on cross-section images is commonly used. We can get a set of contour lines by acquiring CT or MR images and segmenting anatomical structures. Previously proposed method divides entire contour line into simply matched regions and clefts. Since long processing time is required for reconstructing cleft regions, its performance might be degraded when manipulating complex data such as cross-sections for human body. In this paper, we propose a fast reconstruction method. It generates a triangle strip with single tiling operation for simple region that does not contain branch structures. If there exist branches in contour lines, it partitions the contour line into several sub-contours by considering the number of vertices and their spatial distribution. We implemented an automatic surface reconstruction system by using our method which reconstructs three-dimensional models for anatomical structures.

Prediction of Heave Natural Frequency for Floating Bodies (부유체의 상하동요 고유진동수 예측)

  • As the motion response of heave for floating bodies on the water surface is relatively large near the natural frequency, it is necessary to predict its value accurately from the stage of initial design. Bodies accelerating in fluid experience force acted upon by the fluid, and this force is quantified by using the concept of added mass. For predicting the natural frequency of heave we need to know the added mass, which is given as a function of frequency, and hence the natural frequency can be obtained through only by iteration process, as was pointed out by Lee (2008). His method was applied to circular cylinders, and two dimensional cylinders of Lewis form by making use of the Ursell-Tasai method in the previous works, Lee and Lee (2013), Kim and Lee (2013), and Song and Lee (2015). In this work, a similar algorithm employing the concept of strip method is adopted for predicting the heave natural frequency of KCS(KRISO Container Ship), and the obtained computational result was compared with other existing experimental data, and the agreement seems reasonable. Furthermore, through the error analysis, it is shown that why the frequency corresponding to the local minimum of the added mass and the natural frequency are very close. And it seems probable that we can predict the heave natural frequency if we know only the local minimum of added mass and the corresponding frequency under a condition, which holds for ship-like bodies in general.

Added Mass of Submerged Bodies Obtained by Forced Oscillation Tests and Numerical Calculations of Potential Flow (수중운동체의 강제동요시험 및 포텐셜 계산에 의한 부가질량 추정)

  • It is necessary to estimate manoeuvring characteristics of submerged bodies at the design stage in order to ensure the safe operations. In this study, added mass coefficients in the mathematical model of submerged bodies are estimated by captive model tests and numerical calculations. Two kinds of models, MARIN 'BB2'submarine model and AUV (Autonomous unmanned vehicle) model are utilized in the forced oscillation tests. Compared to BB2 submarine, AUV with cylindrical type hull form shows relatively small added masses in roll, pitch, and yaw directions. Next, numerical calculations based on potential theory are performed under the assumption that viscous effects on inertia forces are negligible. Added masses obtained by numerical calculations are in good agreements with forced oscillation test results. And if slow manoeuvres of submerged bodies are presumed, some of velocity coupled terms can be approximated by combinations of added mass coefficients.

  • It is well known that upland soils in Korea are of low fertility, especially if newly reclaimed. Broadcasting of a sufficient rate of fused phosphate in addition to the normal dosage of fertilizer on such soils, may produce a crop yield comparable to that on ordinary upland soils, and the broadcasting of fertilities may build up soil fertility rather quickly. Building up fertility in this way will give a good crop growth on such newly reclaimed soils even under conditions where supplies of compost are limited. Since the precipitation in Korea is mainly concentrated in the months June through September, a complete cover of the land during this period is of major importance, requiring a well considered rotation and skilful management. If this is not possible, the application of a much of about 200 kg, straw per 1/10th ha. is recommended instead. Furthermore, contour cultivation on land with slopes less than five degrees, together with contour furrows, straw mulching, strip cultivation, interplanting, and proper selection of crops which provide a good cover of the land, is recommended on slopes varying between five and fifteen degrees and in addition, bench-terraces on slopes in excess of $15^{\circ}$.

A Study on Pullout Stability according to Abutment Shape of True Mechanicaaly Stabilized Earth Wall Abutment (순수형 보강토교대의 교대 형상에 따른 인발 안정성 검토)

  • A true MSEW abutment is an abutment type that directly supports the load of a superstructure. Metal strips, which are in-extensile reinforcements, should be used to minimize abutment deformation. A study to derive the application conditions of a True MSEW abutment was carried out by Zevogolis(2007). As a result, the pullout factor of safety of the uppermost reinforcement was estimated to be the smallest. Therefore, the pullout factor of safety of the uppermost reinforcement is the most important design factor. Parameter analysis was conducted with the abutment length, abutment heel, and abutment height as variables. The pullout factor of safety increased with increasing abutment length and abutment heel length. This is because the contact area increases and the superstructure is dispersed as the abutment length and abutment heel length increase. The pullout factor of safety converges at an abutment length of 1.2m and an abutment heel length of 0.9m. This is because the effective length of the reinforcement is reduced due to the increase in contact area. On the other hand, the extension of the superstructure will increase if the abutment length and abutment heel length are increased excessively. In addition, earth-volume is increased if the abutment height increases excessively. This acts as an upper load on the MSE wall. Therefore, it needs to be examined carefully.

A Comparative study of roughness of enamel surface to various interdental enamel stripping methods in vitro (치간 법랑질 삭제방법에 따른 치아표면 거칠기에 관한 비교연구)

  • Interdental enamel stripping is an usual method for correction of abnormal tooth shape and tooth size discrepancy which is one of the etiologic factors of malocclusion. Clinically it Is useful to correct the minor crowding in anterior teeth and posterior occlusion during finishing stage of orthodontic treatment. But this procedure has risks such as irreversible tooth reduction and remaining roughness of enamel surface can accumulate plaque which can evoke periodontal problem. Even if various methods were introduced to minimize the enamel surface roughness, their evaluation was limited in morphologic differences by scanning electronic microscope(SEM). The purpose of this study was to compare the various interdental enamel stripping method by SEM and to quantify the difference of surface roughness by use of Surfcorder SEF-30D(Kosaka Lab. Ltd.) which can measure the roughness of surface. The stripping methods were divided into mechanical and mechanical-chemical method. Air-rotor stripping and separating strip were used for mechanical stripping and $37\%$ phosphoric acid was used for chemical stripping. The enamel surface roughness after mechanical or mechanical-chemical stripping of interproximal surfaces of premolars which were extracted for orthodontic purpose were measured and compared by means of SEM and $Surfcorder^{\circledR}$, the results were as follows. 1. Enamel surface of primary treated by coarse diamond bur and separating strip groups showed highest value of roughness. 2. To compare the primary treated groups between mechanical and mechanical-chemical method, the latter group showed lower value of roughness remarkably. 3. Mechanical stripping groups which were treated both coarse and fine instrument showed lower value of roughness as much as non treated group. 4. The use of Pumice for final polishing did not show significantly smoothening the stripped enamel surface any more.

Structure and Tending Method for Naturally Regenerated Young Pinus Densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. Stands (천연경신(天然更新)에 의한 소나무 유령임분(幼齡林分)의 구조와 무육방법(撫育方法))

  • This study is performed to consider the fitness of natural regenerating method and tending methods used now by surveying the stand structure and regenerating states of the 9 natural regenerated Pinus densiflora stands in Kangwon province. As a special consideration, it deals with the tending methods on the seedlings of Pinus densiflora and broad-leaved tree(Quercus mongolica) under competition. By the consideration on the number of trees, growing capacity and stand structures of Pinus densiflora stands, it reveals that Pinus densiflora is in the inferior in numbers at the competition to the broad-leaved species, and it could not occupy the stands as the dominant species if the stands were not tended. It is estimated that natural regeneration of Pinus densiflora stands by the clearcutting or seed tree system could not achieved due to the abundance of ground vegetation. Short-term shelter-wood system or strip stand method may be proposed as a successful method of natural regeneration. As the visible tending method for seedlings, the method which apply the mixed forest in group of Pinus densflora and Quercus mongolica different by the growing capacity and distribution characteristics is better thaw the one which tend the Pinus densiflora only.
