A New Rekeying Scheme for 802.11 Wireless Packets Transmission (802.11 무선패킷 전송을 위한 새로운 Rekeying 스킴)

  • Rekeying is the process of changing the encryption key of an ongoing communication. The main objective is to limit the amount of data encrypted with the same key. The IEEE 802.11 standard defines the Wired Equivalent Privacy, or WEP, encapsulation of 802.11 data frames. MAC at sender encrypts the payload (frame body and CRC) of each 802.11 frame before transmission using RC4 stream cipher. MAC at receiver decrypts and passes data to higher level protocol. WEP uses symmetric key stream cipher (RC4) where same key will be used for data encryption and decryption at the sender and the receiver. WEP is not promising with the advancement of the wireless technology existing today. We propose to use the existing information to define the security attributes. This will eliminate the steps that regenerated keys have to be sent to each other over certain period. The rekeying scheme is according to the number of bytes transmitted. Therefore, even the attacker has recorded the packets, it will be insufficient information and time for the attacker to launch the attacks as the key is not deterministic. We develop a packet simulation software for packet transmission and simulate our propose scheme. From the simulation, our propose scheme will overcome the weak WEP key attack and provide an alternative solution to wireless packet transmission. Besides that, our solution appears to be a software approach where only driver updates are needed for the wireless client and server.

  • 2.4GHz ISM 밴드의 무선 통신 기술이 상업적으로 활발히 활용됨에 따라, 이 대역을 이용하는 무선 전송 기술 중 IEEE 802.11 표준을 이용한 다양한 활용이 시도되고 있다. 본 논문은 GDM5302 임베디드 프로세서를 이용하여 차량에 적용할 수 있는 다기능 Set-Top Box를 구현하였다. 논문에서 제시한 Set-Top Box는 무선 네트워크 연결 기능을 이용하여 음악의 재생, 차량 상태 정보 관리, 개인 정보 관리 등 다양한 기능을 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경으로 구현하였다.

  • In this paper, we have designed and fabricated a new type of bandpass-filter that used rectangular ring and interdigital capacitive feeding-structure. The filter is applied the modified rectangular ring and interdigital capacitive feeding-structure in patch, which reduce rho size of filter and IEEE 802. 11 correspond to wireless LAN domain(2.45GHz and 5.2GHz) for operating. As a result, the design and fabrication process of the filter become simple and the size of it is reduced more than 60% compared with RF filter are available conventional PEMBF(Parallel Edge-coupled Microstrip Bandpass Filter) of accounted circuit by minimum stage, measurement result of fabricated filter, center frequence is down 2.408GHz and 5.075GHz. input return loss is -39.169dB at 2.408GHz, -40.922dB at 5.075GHz. insertion loss is -0.437dB at 2.408GHz, -1.669dB at 5.075GHz.

  • 본 논문에서는 IEEE 802.11a 표준안으로 확정된 OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) 방식을 적용한 고속 무선 LAN의 최적 시스템을 설계하기 위하여 실내 채널 특성들을 분석하였다. 통계적 채널 모델링 및 JTC(Joint Technical Committee) 모델에서의 실내 및 실외 환경을 선택하여 채널에 따른 고속 무선 LAN 시스템을 모의 실험하였다. 또한 채널에 의한 열화를 보상하기 위하여 무선 LAN 표준안에 따른 긴 훈련 신호를 이용한 채널 등화기법인 LS(Least Square) 방식과 LMMSE(Linear Minimum Mean Square Error) 방식을 비교 분석하였다. LS 기법과 본 논문에서 제시한 LS 방식으로 채널의 지연 확산 rms(root mean square) 값을 추정한 후 LMMSE 기법을 사용한 경우의 차이점을 고찰하였다. 이러한 LMMSE 기법을 채택할 경우 LS 기법에 비해 실외환경과 같은 열악한 채널환경 하에서도 시스템 성능에 상당한 개선효과가 나타남을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • In this paper we show the performance of the network-adaptive high-definition scalable video streaming using QWLAN board with IEEE 802.11e MAC monitoring and control. Realtime collected MAC parameters are used to determine which video data is extracted for the predicted available bandwidth. To achieve performance, extraction through R-D is proposed instead of the standard video packet extraction. It is shown through experiments that streaming video quality can be enhanced by fast adaptation to network conditions by using the proposed method.

  • Due to the advance of WLAN technology, the use of the multimedia service such as the video streaming service has been increased in the home network. However, we need to study the method which decreases the transmission delay and the frame loss rate to provide QoS of the video streaming service. Therefore, this paper proposes an active buffer management mechanism to guarantee QoS of the streaming service in IEEE 802.11e EDCA. The proposed protocol discards the frame in the HoL of the buffer based on the importance of each frame and the virtual transmission delay of frame newly arriving at the buffer. In the simulation results, the proposed algorithm not only decreases the frame loss probability of important I and P frames but also stabilizes the transmission delay. It may increase the QoS of video streaming services.

  • This paper has proposed a novel dual band transmitter module which can be operating either as an amplifier or as a frequency multiplier according to the input frequency. A conventional dual band transmitter consists of separate amplifiers operating at each frequency band, but the proposed dual band module operates as an amplifier for the IEEE 802.11b/g signal, and as a frequency doubler for the IEEE 802.11a signal according to input frequency and bias voltage. In this paper, we have obtained sharp stop band characteristics by using microstrip DGS(Defected Ground Structure) to suppress the fundamental frequency of the frequency doubler as well as the second harmonic of the amplifier. From measurement result, second harmonic suppression is below -59dBc in the amplifier mode, and fundamental suppression is below -35dBc in the frequency doubler mode. And the designed module has 17.8dBm output P1dB at 2.4GHz and 10.1dBm power for 5.8GHz output, and the output power in the two modes are 0.8dB and 2.8dB larger than the module with ${\lambda}g/4$ reflector, respectively.

  • In this paper, we analyze security weakness of 4-Way Handshake in IEEE 802.11i and propose fast and secure 2-Way Handshake mechanism. Compute PTK(Pairwise Transient Key) using sequence number instead of random numbers in order to protect Replay attack and DoS attack. Also, proposed 2-Way Handshake mechanism can mutual authenticate between mobile station and access point and derive PTK using modified Re-association Request and Re-association Response frames. And, compare with others which are fast and secure Handoff mechanisms.

  • Appearance of a cloned AP(Access Point) causes MS(Mobile Station) to break an association with a normal AP(Access Point). If signal power of the cloned AP is stronger than that of the normal AP, MS associates with the cloned AP. Therefore, MS is easily exposed to attackers who installed the cloned AP. In this paper, we distinguish cloned AP from normal AP by using the association time and frame sequence number between normal AP and MS, then isolates the cloned AP. The simulation by NS-2 shows that our mechanism isolates efficiently a cloned AP and builds safer wireless LAN environment.

  • Transmit diversity is an efficient diversity technique to improve performance and spectrum efficiency in wireless communication . Coding scheme designed for the transmit diversity is called space-time coding. In this paper, we propose a training structure to apply the transmit diversity to improve the performance of IEEE802.11a OFDM systems. Based on this training structure, we propose a channel estimation scheme using curve fitting. Also we compare and evaluate the performance of space-time codes. The performance of both diversity using space-time codes and channel estimation scheme is investigated by computer simulation in quasi-static 2-ray rayleigh fading environment.
