  • The first frame of a GOP, an I frame, is encoded in intra mode which generates a larger number of bits. In addition, the I frame is used for the inter mode encoding of the following frames. Thus the intial QP for the I frame affects the first frame as well as the following frames. In our previous work, we analyzed the number of bits for an I frame and showed that the ratio of the number of bits which maximizes the PSNR of a GOP maintains similar value regardless of GOP's. In this paper, we propose a R-Q model which can be used for the calculation of the initial QP given the amount of bits for an I frame. The proposed model is simple and adaptively modifies model parameters, so it can be applicable to the real-time application. It is shown by experimental results that the proposed model captures initial QP characteristics effectively and the proposed method for model parameters accurately estimates the real values.

  • In this paper, we propose a new digital blind in-phase/quadrature-phase (I/Q) mismatch compensation technique for image rejection in a direct-conversion receiver (DCR). The proposed image-rejection circuit adopts DC offset cancellation and a sign-sign least mean squares (LMS) algorithm with a unique step size adaptation both for a fast and precise I/Q mismatch estimation. In addition, several performance-optimizing design considerations related to accuracy, speed, and hardware simplicity are discussed. The implementation of the proposed circuit in an FPGA results in an image-rejection ratio (IRR) of 65 dB, which is the best performance with modulated signals, along with an adaptation time of 0.9 seconds, which is a tenfold increase in the compensation speed as compared to previously reported circuits. The proposed technique will be a promising solution in the area of image rejection to increase both the speed and accuracy of future DCRs.

  • This letter presents the signal processing of a CW radar (Continuous Wave or Doppler radar) sensor which enables the radar to detect the multiple targets' approaching and retreating using both I and Q channels. The proposed algorithm utilizes the phase change of the Quadrature signal, which occurs when targets move back and forth from the radar. The verification is carried out with the board containing a commercially available MMIC chip and an MCU by analyzing the received data from MMIC. Also the proposed algorithm is downloaded to MCU and the approaching and retreating movement is confirmed. The CW frequency is 24.125 GHz and the transmitter output power used is 7.2 dBm. Detectable distance is about 12 m.

  • In a fault tree analysis, an uncertainty importance measure is often used to assess how much uncertainty of the top event probability (Q) is attributable to the uncertainty of a basic event probability ($q_i$), and thus, to identify those basic events whose uncertainties need to be reduced to effectively reduce the uncertainty of Q. For evaluating the measures suggested by many authors which assess a percentage change in the variance V of Q with respect to unit percentage change in the variance $v_i$ of $q_i$, V and ${\partial}V/{\partial}v_i$ need to be estimated analytically or by Monte Carlo simulation. However, it is very complicated to analytically compute V and ${\partial}V/{\partial}v_i$ for large-sized fault trees, and difficult to estimate them in a robust manner by Monte Carlo simulation. In this paper, we propose a method for evaluating the measure using discretization technique and Monte Carlo simulation. The proposed method provides a stable uncertainty importance of each basic event.

  • In this paper, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for an exchange ideal to be a qb-ideal. It is shown that an exchange ideal I of a ring R is a qb-ideal if and only if when-ever $a{\simeq}b$ via I, there exists u ${\in} I_q^{-1}$ such that a = $ubu_q^{-1}$ and b = $u_q^{-1}$. This gives a generalization of the corresponding result of exchange QB-rings.

  • In-phase/quadrature (I/Q) imbalances, which are generated by non-ideal transceiver components, are inevitable physical phenomena that cause the performance of practical communication systems to be degraded. In this paper, we provide a new closed-form expression for the bit error rate of hierarchical M-ary phase shift keying with I/Q phase and amplitude imbalances and analyze the effect of I/Q imbalances on BER performance over an additive white Gaussian noise channel.

  • In this paper, we study the notion of $z^J$ - ideals of posets and explore the various properties of $z^J$-ideals in posets. The relations between topological space on Sspec(P), the set $I_Q=\{x{\in}P:L(x,y){\subseteq}I\text{ for some }y{\in}P{\backslash}Q\}$ for an ideal I and a strongly prime ideal Q of P and $z^J$-ideals are discussed in poset P.

  • The stator winding faults diagnosis technique based on MCSA is as follows. Firstly, collecting the 3 phase motor currents, that signal is transformed by (d-q transform, $i_d$, $i_q$). Park's vector pattern, the circle that is down by d-q transformed currents($i_d$, $i_q$). The circle is widely used for stator winding faults detection. The current distortion ratio(DR), defined by the ratio of max-axis and min-axis of ellipse of Park's vector's pattern. In this study, distortion ratio of Park's vector pattern is suggested for Auto diagnosis of stator winding short fault and usefulness of distortion ratio is verified through simulation using LabVIEW program.

  • This paper describes the antenna based GPS anti-jamming technology called CRPA(Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna), which used $2{\times}2$ array elements. In this system, the main functions are the antenna complex weight control and the GPS digital I/Q VM(Vector Modulator). To update the VM's I/Q complex weights, the PC based DAC(Digital to Analog Converter) module was also used and the two analog output voltages were applied to the $2{\times}2$ array elements to synthesize the null pattern. In the study, we also simulated the $2{\times}2$ GPS array null patterns to compare the null depth with experimental results. The VM was also modified at the frequency of 1.575GHz for the GPS L1 and controlled by the PC based VM software.

  • Space-Time (ST) codes are known to provide high transmission rates, diversity and coding gains. In this paper, a tight upper bound on the error probability of ST codes over rapid fading channels is presented. Moreover, ST codes suitable for rapid fading channels are presented. These codes are designed using the QPSK and 16-QAM signal constellations. The proposed codes are based on two different encoding schemes. The first scheme uses a single trellis encoder, whereas the second scheme uses the I-Q encoding technique. Code design is achieved via partitioning the signal space such that the design criteria are maximized. As a solution for the decoding problem of I-Q ST codes, the paper introduces a low-complexity decoding algorithm. Results show that the I-Q ST codes using the proposed decoding algorithm outperform singleencoder ST codes with equal complexity. The proposed codes are tested over fading channels with different interleaving conditions, where it is shown that the new codes are robust under such imperfect interleaving conditions.
