And the acupuncture points on sudden palpitation in 'Shin(神)' chapter are come from the purview of phlegen form syndromes. As the epistaxis and hematemesis on 'Hyul(血)' happen more the heat of fire than extravasated blood, the acupuncture points on epistaxis and hematemesis in 'Hyul(血)' chapter are come from the purview of 'Shin(神)' type, fire-form, bird-form and Yang-Myeong body. And as well as the acupuncture points on hematemesis in 'Hyul(血)' chapter are come possibly from the purview of 'Wind-form'. The acupuncture points on feeble hematemesis in 'Hyul(血)' chapter are come from the purview of 'The body form on the deficiency of medium energy'. And the acupuncture points on melena in 'Hyul(血)' chapter are come from the purview of 'Hyul(血)' type.
Review on internal damage disease(disease of the spleen and stomach) in Hyungsang medicine is as follows; In case of woman, Disease of the spleen and stomach is caused mostly a excessive thought. In case of man, Disease of the spleen and stomach is related to the genitals's disease for man is based on the kidney and body. In shapes of the Jung(精), Ki(氣). Shin(神) and Hyul(血), the seven feelings(emotions) in the Ki(氣) and Shin(神) types and deficiency of essence and blood in the Jung(精) and Hyul(血) types induce mostly diseases of the spleen and stomach. Treatments are used frequently to promote the normal flow of Ki(行氣), promote digestion and remove food stagnancy(消導), resolve phlem(化痰) and check upward perverted flow of fire(降火) in the Ki(氣) and Shin(神) types and tonity the essence(補精), tonity the blood(補血) and replenish Ki(補氣) in the Jung(精) and Hyul(血) types. The main parts to appear outside diseases of the spleen and stomach are face color, depression condition of eyes, lips' condition, LU10(魚際)'s color and the rise and fall of flesh etc. Shapes of the six meridians have to treat to divid shapes and symtoms of the six meridians according to 'deviation of Ki and blood' and 'the expression part of symtoms'.
This study was aimed to get the course which is caused by Neuropsychiatric symptoms in Sang-Han. Therefore this study is based on ${\ulcorner}Euhak-Ipmun\;Sang-Han{\lrcorner}$(${\ulcorner}$醫學入門\;傷寒${\lrcorner}$) classfied mainly by symptoms. The results were summerized as follows: 1. Neuropsychiatric symptoms in ${\ulcorner}Euhak-Ipmun\;Sang-Han{\lrcorner}$(${\ulcorner}$醫學入門\;傷寒${\lrcorner}$) are explained as Pal-Gang(八綱), which shows those are settled down to a systematic oriental medical theory. 2. Pal-Bup (八法) is used in the cure of symptomatische psychose in Euhak-Ipmun${\cdot}$Sang-Han (醫學入門${\cdot}$傷寒), which is intended to boost the effect of cure, choosing the respondent cure method about various causes. 3. PaI-Gang(八綱) and Pal-Bup(八法) in ${\ulcorner}Euhak-Ipmun\;Sang-Han{\lrcorner}$(${\ulcorner}$醫學入門;傷寒${\lrcorner}$) are improved by Lee-Chun who added Jang-Gi(張機)'s Sang Han theory and new medical thought in the ages of Geum Won. 4. Lee-Chun believed that Neuropsychiatric symptoms which appeared in Sang Hang is caused by the ‘Unbalance(不平)’. So he wanted to reach harmony of ‘Jeong(精), Qi(氣), Shin(神), Hyul(血)’ after improving the status of $‘Unbalance(\;{\ulcorner}不平{\lrcorner})’$ toward the status of ‘Balance(平)’.
Objectives : This study is designed to improve the practical possibility using Blood-Letting therapy through reviewing the literature recorded in the Donguibogam. Methods : Records on Blood-Letting therapy have been extracted from Donguibogam. First all articles containing the key words 'Hyul (血)' and 'Rak (絡)' have been extracted. Of them, records associated with Blood-Letting therapy had been sited and classified in terms of searching patterns for the Blood-Letting area, instruments for Blooding-Letting, cautions and side effects for the practice, applicable symptoms, acupoints/extraordinary acupoints, and Blood-Letting areas. Results : The regions capable of Blood-Letting are generally engaged with abnormal skin color such as black, bluish red, dark purple, dark blue, etc, and localized collection of fibrous exudate. There are several instruments used for Blood-Letting therapy; Samreongchim (三陵鍼), Chogyong (草莖), Pichim (鈹鍼), Lodaeguan (蘆管尖), Sachim (砂鍼), Saechim (細鍼), Gichim (?鍼), Eunjam (銀簪), nail, etc. Several cautions and side effects of the Blood-Letting therapy are presented. The Blood-Letting therapy could be applied to broad spectrum of symptoms. Body parts being applied were not only several acupoints but also effective points of the body. Conclusions : This study shows that Donguibogam represents Blood-Letting therapy in clear fashion so as to enhance the convenience and its practicality.
Background : Angiogenesis is the proliferation of a network of blood vessels emanating from pre-existing vessels, supplying nutrients and oxygen and removing waste products. Angiogenesis occurs in a variety of normal physiologic and pathologic conditions and is regulated by a balance of stimulatory and inhibitory angiogenic factors. Excessive angiogenesis should be suppressed. However, if blood supply is insufficient, it should be encouraged. Hyul-Mek(血脈) or Hyul-Rark(血絡), known as blood vessels in western medicine, is deeply related to Chung-Ki-Hyul(精 氣 血). The goal of this study is to review the effects of herbal medicines on angiogenesis that is involved in wound healing and enhancement of blood supply. Methods : We conducted a systematic and comprehensive literature search for the identification, retrieval, and bibliographic management of independent studies to locate information on the topic. A computerized search of the published literature of Korea(KISS, RISS), China(CNKI), Japan(Kampo medicine, etc), and western countries(MEDLINE) was performed, and further supplemented with manual searches of print sources(1999 to 2003). Results : The herbal medicines with angiogenic activity were mainly found among herbs that carry replenish Shin-Cheng(補腎益精), foster Eum and improve the circulation of blood(養陰活血), or warm and circulate Kyung-Rark(溫經通絡). In particular, herbs with improve the circulation of blood and clear blood(活血化瘀) activity contain a significant amount of tannin, saponin, and pyrazine. Conclusion : Replenish Ki-Hyul(補氣血) and circulate Kyung-Rark(通經絡) could contribute to the induction of angiogenesis because various growth factors and proliferation, differentiation, and migration of vascular endothelial cells are involved in angiogenic activity.
Phlegm is defined as the static fluid in excess in one or more parts of the body. It is not only a pathologic product but also a pathogen itself. However, as it says Phlegm is another title for the body fluid. phlegm can be physiological. In Hyungsang medicine. since the Hyungsang which an individual shows determines his or her illness. the principle to treat phlegm also varies according to the individual's Hyungsang. Thus, the author reviewed ‘Jisan’s Special Lectures for Clinicians’ and summarized the concepts and diagnostics of phlegm, and treatment and regimens by Hyungsang medicine. The concepts of phlegm : Phlegm is not only a pathologic product of disharmony of Jung(精), Ki(氣), Shin(神) and Hyul(血) but also a driving force to mature and transform these constituents. Phlegm is another designation for the Fluid. Phlegm can act as an alternative substance or buffering agent. If we describe our body as the habitat of worms. phlegm could be the inhabitant. Diagnostics of phlegm : The infraorbital areas have a dark-gray or blackish coloring. A man who is feminine or a woman who is masculine tends to develop phlegm. One of the major signs of phlegm is pain in Chungwan(中脘). The color of the skin does not change. Treatment of phlegm by Hyungsang medicine. For the Jung type(精科) and the Hyul type(血科), phlegm treatment is to supply Jung and Blood or eliminate Damp-phlegm. The man needs tonifying herbs and the woman needs herbs which promote the flow of Ki(氣). Children and the aged are. tegardless of the nature of disease, to be warmed and supplemented. For the heavy man. treatment is to supplement Ki and eliminate Damp; for the slim man. treatment is to supplement Yin(陰) and purge Heat.
Although Bi(脾 Spleen) is a major organ which controls digestion and absorption in Korean medicine, there also introduced another function of bi, which is called 'bitonghyul(脾統血)' that means the spleen controls(holdings) the blood. While the spleen is involved in the function of blood generation through the digestion and absorption of food, 'bitonghyul' is another expression regarding function of the spleen. The meaning of 'bitonghyul' is related with the function of keeping the blood flowing within the blood vessels, hemostasis. Comparing the function of the spleen with the mechanisms of hemostais, it is concluded that 'bitonghyul' is a physiological effects which affect hemostatic mechanisms via absorption of vitamin K.
Insomnia describes not only a state of a lack of sleep but also a causative factor for both psychological and physical disorders. Most people tend to underestimate the effects of insomnia on psychological problems, stroke, Sogal or other life-threatening conditions. insomnia may occur when 1) the flow of Jung(精), Ki(氣), Shin(神) and Hyul(血) is not smooth; 2) the five Jang organs and six Bu organs are in disharmony; 3) Shin(身) and Hyung(形) are inconsistently developed; 4) Young and Wi(衛) do not work in concert; 5) and other factors such as age or exposure to Cold are involved. I observed my patients suffering from insomnia according to Hyungsang medicine, which is based on 'Dongyuibogam'(東醫寶鑑). Insomnia due to the problems with Jung, Ki. Shin and Hyul was found in the Shin type(神科) and the Ki type(氣科). When it comes to the organs, sleep disorder significantly correlates to weakened Spleen, Liver and Kidneys. In terms of the inconsistent development of Shin and Hyung, patients who were shortsighted or experienced surgery showed insomnia. Patients exposed to Cold showed false type agitation. With respect to age, while children showed a weakened Gallbladder, the aged had deficient Blood. Sleep disorder caused by disharmony of Young and Wi occurs at dusk or dawn.
Objective : This study will analyze the constitution of Danxihuqianwan(丹溪虎潛丸) with the dragon-tiger and lead-mercury theory of Su Shi(蘇軾). It would help understand more the usage of Danxihuqianwan over the scope of Sa-nam and bo-buk(瀉南補北) theory that has been well known until now. Methods : This study tried to analyze the explanation about Danxihuqianwan in Yixuerumen(醫學入門) that had used the dragon-tiger and lead-mercury concept with the theory of this kind that appears in Sushenliangfang(蘇沈良方). Results & Conclusion: Based on the internal alchemy theory, Su Shi proclaimed that dragon[龍] corresponds to mercury[汞] Jeong(精) Hyul(血), and tiger[虎] corresponds to lead[鉛] Qi(氣). It is said to be in good position that dragon appears from fire and tiger is hidden in water. Su Shi also expalined the relation between dragon and tiger as the relation of water[水] and fire[火] between heart and kidney. As Li Yan(李梴) did, the dragon-tiger theory could be applied to the analysis about Danxihuqianwan, and it explains well the effect of this prescription that makes tiger hidden in water and thus help cure the diseases such as atrophy syndrome.
Objective : Blepharoptosis is drooping of eyelid which causes impairment of visual field by covering partially or completely, and it is classified into congenital ptosis and acquired one. In western medicine, idiopathic blepharoptosis is usually treated by tarsectomy. Contrary to that concept, we consider eyelid is assigned to Yookryoon(肉輪) among Ohryoon(五輪) which matches to spleen. In oriental medicine, it can be treated by promoting spleen and kidney. Here I report two cases of idiopathic blepharoptosis improved by conservative acupuncture therapy and herb medicine. Methods : The changes in clinical symptoms of general body weakness, anorexia, dizziness, dry eye, etc, in degree of eyelid drooping and in individual expression were described as they were treated with acupuncture therapy, herb medicine, Bojoong-ikgi-tang(補中益氣湯) and some physical therapy including Negative, I.C.T, S.S.P and Carbon. Results : Symptoms(ex) general body weakness, anorexia, dizziness, dry eye, etc) at admission improved and disappeared gradually with acupuncture therapy and herb medicine. The patients could discharge with favorable recovery. Conclusions : In oriental medicine, blepharoptosis is mainly treated by promoting Qihyul(氣血) and enhancing flow of that. If the patient has deficiency of Suhnchun-poomboo(先天稟褓賦) and Mungmoon-hwa(命門火), he is treated by promoting Shin-yang(腎陽). If he is weak in Bee-qi(脾氣), he needs to be treated by strengthening Bee-yang(脾陽) where patient with lack of Ganhyul(肝血) is supposed to be treated by promoting Hyul(血). These following two cases were managed by acupuncture, herb medicine and physical therapy on idiopathic blepharoptosis.
