In this study, we investigated the emission concentrations of 31 odorous compounds from various emission sources of 37 individual companies located within the Ban Wal industrial complex of Ansan city, Korea. In the course of our study, we attempted to evaluate emission characteristics of different industrial activities and relative significance of different odorous components . Based on our measurements of odorous compounds, we were able to find a line of evidence to draw a conclusion that a number of odorous compounds can be used as indices to specifically point out the influence of certain industrial activities. It was found that hydrogen sulfide and trimethyl amine record the highest contribution from leather industry. Likewise, acetaldehyde showed its maximum contribution from food-beverage sector, while ammonia for paper-mill, pulp production sector. On the other hand, the results of styrene and most YOC including BTEX were not useful, as their concentrations were not significantly high enough to judge from such respect.
Inositols are cyclohexanehexol and they have been known to be nine stereomers. Scyllo-inositol, epi-inositol and muco-inositol could be synthesized from myo-inositol. Scyllo-inositol and epi-inositol were obtained by oxidation and reduction process from myo-inositol. Myo-inositol and epi-inositol were oxidized by treatment, in solution, with dilute hydrogen peroxide. In all cases, only axial hydroxyl groups were oxidized and monoketons were obtained. Reduction of myo-inosose-2 with sodium boron hydride was carried out in $pH2{\sim}3.$ The reduction products were equatorial alcohol but: reduction of DL-epi-inosose-2 by catalytic reduction produced axial alcohol obtained. Inositol could be esterified. Hexa-O-(p-hydroxy benzoyl)-esters of myo-inositol, scyllo-inositol, epi-inositol and muco-inositol were synthesized and their antimicrobial action on microbes were tested for application to food industry. As the results, it was found that the activities of muco-inositol ester was more vigorous than others.

The microstickes control effects of some fixing agents, including an inorganic PAC, an organic polyamine (PA) and polydiallydimethyl ammonium chloride (Pdadmac), and a high cationic starch (HCS), were investigated, together with their effects on wet end performances and physical properties of handsheets. Despite that the HCS and Pdadmac had lower cationic charge densities than the PA and PAC (the HCS being even lower), they gave higher zeta potentials to fibers, and lower turbidities, cationic demands and residual COD contents to the pulp liquid phases than the PA and PAC did. In all cases, the HCS showed even better effects than the Pdadmac. In addition, drainage speed was also much higher by the HCS treatments although paper formation was worsened. All the phenomena showed that the HCS can fix more dissolved and colloidal substances to cellulose fibers, indicating that the HCS functioned mainly with flocculation and even hydrogen bonding mechanisms. Data on optical properties further indicated that the HCS interacted preferentially with colloidal substances, since it fixed more 'dirty' microstickes to fibers which decreased more sheet brightness while increasing more sheet opacity (with both higher light absorption and scattering coefficients). Interestingly, the organic fixing agents did not decrease tensile, tearing, and folding strengths of paper sheets made from 100% recycled newsprint pulp, except when they were dosed in high amounts. On the contrary, the inorganic PAC had more serious negative effects on the strength properties, especially on folding endurance. The study suggested that proper use of the HCS can lead to better microstickies control effects than traditional agents and methods.

A new wood-degrading fungus Trichophyton rubrum LKY-7 secretes a high level of laccase in a glucose-peptone liquid medium. The production of laccase by the fungus was barely induced by 2,5-xylidine. The laccase has been purified to homogeneity through three chromatography steps in an overall yield of 40%. The molecular mass of the purified laccase was about 65 kDa by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The purified laccase had the distinct blue color and had basic spectroscopic features of a typical blue laccase: two absorption maxima at 278 and 610 nm and a shoulder at 338 nm. The N-terminus of the laccase has been sequenced, revealing high homology to laccases from wood-degrading white-rot fungi such as Ceriporiopsis subvermispora. The enzyme had a "low" redox potential (0.5 V vs normal hydrogen electrode), yet it was one of the most active laccases in oxidizing a series of representative substrates/mediators. Compared with other fungal laccases, the laccase has a very low Km value with ABTS [2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid] as a substrate and a very high Km value with violuric acid as a substrate. The laccase has the isoelectric point of 4.0. The laccase had very acidic optimal pH values (pH 3-4) while it was more stable at neutral pH than at acidic pH. The laccase oxidized hydroquinone faster than catechol and pyrogallol. The oxidation of tyrosine by the laccase was not detectable under the reaction conditions. The laccase was strongly inhibited by sodium azide and sodium fluoride. fluoride.

Nowadays blending ratio of OMG (old magazine) in recovered paper used for manufacturing newspaper have been increased. When large amount of OMG is consumed in newsprint mill, brightness can be improved by inorganic pigments of coating layer. On the other hand decrease in yield of deinking process will be encountered because the pigments can be removed as reject of froth flotation process. Therefore selection of the optimal deinking agent is an important. Non-ionic surfactant have been used widely in newsprint mill. Non-ionic surfactant has amphoteric characteristics. Hydrophilic group is ethylene and propylene oxide that can induce hydrogen bonding with water molecules. In this regard, cloud point is an important parameter in order to control efficiency of deinking process because hydration of the hydrophobic group can be varied according to temperature of a system. In this study, deinking properties of ONP at high blending ratio of OMG was analyzed according to cloud points of non-ionic surfactants. $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$, brightness and effective residual ink concentration did not affected by the change of cloud points. Especially, flotation reject decreased significantly according to increase in cloud point of the non-ionic surfactant. Consequently, when a nonionic surfactant having a cloud point higher than the temperature of the system is used, properties of the deinked pulp can be maintained and yield of deinking process can be improved.

Gas hydrates are crystalline solids composed of water and gas molecules. Water molecules are linked through hydrogen bonding and create cavities(host lattice) that can capture a large variety of guest molecules under appropriate conditions, generally high pressure and low temperature. Recently, many researchers try to apply gas hydrates to industrial processes to capture greenhouse gases due to the facts that the process is eco-friendly and target gas molecules can be preferentially captured. In this paper, we introduced recent studies on $CO_2$ and $CO_2-N_2$ mixture hydrates to evaluate the feasibility of industrial application of gas hydrate technology to $CO_2$ capture process. Specifically, we put emphasis on the technical feasibility of $CO_2$ separation in steel industry using gas hydrate formation principles.
Methoxy polyoxyethylene dodecanoates, kinds of nonionic surfactants, could be obtained from addition of ethylene oxide (5, 7, 9, and 12mol) with fatty acid methyl ester utilizing solid catalyst, metal oxide. Because ethylene oxide (EO) couldn't react directly in acid or alkali catalyst with dodecanoic acid methyl ester (DME) that had no active hydrogen, the reaction to add EO was carried out using active solid catalyst. By using IR, HPLC and $^1H$ NMR analysis, structural confirmation of methyl polyoxy ethylene dodecanate showed high yield ranging from 93 to 97%. EO unit mol number of reacted products was 5.2, 7.1, 9.2 and 12.1 mol respectively. Also, EO adduct distrobution of ethoxylated methyl laurate (MPD) had normal distribution curve like polyoxyethylene alkyl ether (AE).

This study was aimed to investigate the effect of oxidants on biodegradability and decomposition of acetaminophen (ACT) by gamma ray. Three kinds of chemical, potassium persulfate, hydrogen peroxide and ferrous sulfate were selected as an oxidant. The absorbed dose was ranged from 0.2 to 10 kGy and the concentration of oxidants was from 0.1 to 10 mM and the initial concentration of acetaminophen was $30mg\;l^{-1}$ in this study. The concentration of ACT was gradually decreased corresponding to the increase of the absorbed dose. However, mineralization of ACT was not occurred by the increased of the absorbed dose. When the 10 mM of oxidants applied to the ACT aqueous solution, the concentration of ACT was rapidly decreased according to absorbed dose and the mineralization was observed in potassium persulfate. Biodegradability of ACT with potassium persulfate was higher than that of ACT without potassium persulfate in lower absorbed dose and decreased according to higher absorbed dose.

Plant-derived insecticide-neonicotinoid insecticides (NIs) played a crucial role in the development of agriculture and food industry in recent years. Nevertheless, synthesis of these nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds with an effective and greener routing remains challenging especially to the notion raise of "green chemistry" and "atom economy". While bio-catalyzed methods mediated by nicotinate dehydrogenase (NDHase) then provide an alternative. The current review mainly focuses on the introduction of sources, components, structure, catalytic mechanism and applications of NDHase. Specifically, NDHase is known as nicotinic acid hydroxylase and the sources principally derived from phylum Proteobacteria. In addition, NDHase requires the participation of the electron respiratory chain system on the cell membrane. And the most important components of the electron respiratory chain are hydrogen carrier, which is mainly composed of iron-sulfur proteins (Fe-S), flavin dehydrogenase (FAD), molybdenum binding protein and cytochromes. Heterologous expression studies were hampered by the plasmid and host with high efficiency and currently only Pseudomonas entomophila L48 as well as Comamonas testosterone was successfully utilized for the expression of NDHase. Furthermore, it is speculated that the conjugate and inductive effects of the substituent group at position 3 of the substrate pyridine ring exerts a critical role in the hydroxylation reactions at position 6 concerning about the substrate molecular recognition mechanism. Finally, applications of NDHase are addressed in terms of pesticide industry and wastewater treatment. On conclusion, this critical review would not only deepen our understanding of the theory about NDHase, but also provides the guideline for future investigation of NDHase.

The domestic automotive industry must consider a strategic shift from traditional automotive component manufacturing to align with future trends such as connectivity, autonomous driving, sharing, and electrification. This research conducted topic modeling on R&D projects in the future automotive sector funded by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy from 2013 to 2021. We found that topics such as sensors, communication, driver assistance technology, and battery and power technology remained consistently prominent throughout the entire period. Conversely, topics like high-strength lightweight chassis were observed only in the first period, while topics like AI, big data, and hydrogen fuel cells gained increasing importance in the second and third periods. Furthermore, this research analyzed the areas of concentrated investment for each period based on topic-specific government investment amounts and investment growth rates.
