This study proposes a new approach to control the nozzle pressure of homogenizer in refrigerator foam system in the 900L class. Generally, dynamic characteristics of the hydraulic nozzle system is highly nonlinear due to uncertain parameters, and it is very difficult to control of hydraulic dynamics. Firstly, it has been performed to derive a real-time control algorithm based on the mathematical model of hydraulic cylinder, and to estimate the values of the unknown parameter in the hydraulic system. Secondly, the feedback controller was designed to implement the optimal pressure control of the hydraulic nozzle system. Finally the control performance was illustrated by simulation.

An experimental and theoretical analysis for the improvement of dynamic characteristics and design of electro-hydraulic flow control servo valve are performed. The theoretical results are compared with the experimental step responses, and the important design parameters of an electro-hydraulic flow control servo valve are derived by using the simulation program. Simulation parameters of nozzle jet coefficient and orifice and spool valve discharge coefficient are given through experiment. The theoretical and experimental step response curves show that the valve gain depends on the fixed orifice and nozzle $ratio(R_on)$ and is maximum at $R_on=1.$ And drain orifice in the flapper - nozzle return line creates a small back pressure, which improves the performance fur the valve.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the generation and development of cavitation in circular and elliptical nozzles. In order to investigate the influence of cavitation, the experiment was conducted with a set of elliptical nozzles that had the same cross-sectional area, different orifice aspect ratios (a/b). Each nozzle was made of acrylic so that visualization was possible. With the injection pressure, the internal flow of the nozzle was classified into the no-cavitation, cavitation, and hydraulic-flip regions. Regardless of the nozzle geometry, with the injection pressure, the flow rate in the no-cavitation and cavitation regions increased and the discharge coefficient decreased. However, the flow rate was constant in the hydraulic-flip region. In the elliptical nozzles, the generation and development of cavitation occurred at higher cavitation number than that in the case of a circular nozzle.

Some simple devices to demonstrate important hydraulic principles are required in fluid mechanics or hydraulics classes. Those devices should be easy to make and operate with inexpensive cost. The writer has studied some simple demonstration apparatus of hydraulic principles which were made of cheap materials. An adjustable nozzle is one of them. It can be connected to an axial flow fan so as to use air flow. By operating this apparatus, pressure changes in gradually enlarged or contracted conduits could be observed.
The hydraulic part in reactor coolant pump consists of suction nozzle, impeller, diffuser, and discharge nozzle. Among them, impeller is required to be designed to satisfy performance requirements such as head, NPSHR, and head curve slope at design point. Present study is intended to suggest the preliminary design method sizing the impeller size to satisfy the design requirement particularly including head curve slope at design point. On a basis of preliminary design result, hydraulic components have been designed in detail by CFD and then manufactured in a reduced scale. Experiment in parallel with computational analysis has been executed in order to confirm the hydraulic performance. Comparison results show good agreement with design result, confirming the validity of design method suggested in this study.

Though rocket nozzle flow is very important to the rocket performance, the direct measurement is very difficult because of high temperature and high pressure gas flow. Then the experiment utilizing the hydraulic analogy has been developed for such a problem. Supersonic flows through an axisymmetric De Laval nozzle of solid rocket motor was simulated in a 2-D sluice-type water-table designed and manufactured utilizing hydraulic analogy. Methods to minimize or account for non-analogous effects in the hydraulic system must be reviewed for the quantitative application of the hydraulic analogy. In this application the water table is inclined slightly, so that gravity acceleration has a small component in the direction of motion, thus compensating for the effect of friction. Flow visualization leads to better understanding of the analogous system. Within the experimental errors, it is shown that the hydraulic analogy can be used as an effective tool for the study of two dimensional isentropic flows of gases in many fields.

In this study, the correlations between flow rate, exhaust pressure, and droplet mean diameter with the shape factor of a water curtain nozzle were investigated. To analyze the flow coefficient and the distribution constant on the effects of the hydraulic diameter, five nozzles (D5W3, D5W6, D5W8, D4W6, and D7W6) were mocked up with a consideration of the internal diameter and width. The results showed that the flow coefficient increased in proportion to the constant 0.79 and 62.8 of the hydraulic diameters according to the diameter. As the nozzle width increased, the average droplet size decreased to the -0.235 exponential of the pressure. The average volume was reduced, in which the size distribution of the volume indeterminate decreased with increasing pressure for the same nozzle of the water-curtain. The distribution constants of droplet increased in proportion to the 0.258 exponential of the hydraulic diameter and 244.21. These results are expected to be useful to the design of pressure, flow meter, and average droplet size from a water curtain nozzle to predict the flow characteristics.

In the electro-hydraulic injector for the common rail Diesel fuel injection system, the injection nozzle is being opened and closed by movement of a injector's needle which is balanced by pressure at the nozzle seat and at the needle control chamber, at the opposite end of the needle. In this study, the piezo actuator was considered as a prime movers in high pressure Diesel injector. Namely a piezo-driven Diesel injector, as a new method driven by piezoelectric energy, has been applied with a purpose to develop the analysis model of the piezo actuator to predict the dynamics characteristics of the hydraulic component(injector) by using the AMESim code. Aimed at simulating the hydraulic behavior of the piezo-driven injector, the circuit model has been developed and verified by comparison with the experimental results. As this research results, we found that the input voltage exerted on piezo stack is the dominant factor which affects on the initial needle behavior of piezo-driven injector than the hydraulic force generated by the constant injection pressure. Also we know the piezo-driven injector has more degrees of freedom in controlling the injection rate with the high pressure than a solenoid-driven injector.

Effects of cavitation and hydraulic flip in circular and elliptical nozzles on the flow characteristics have been studied. Spray tests were conducted using injectors with different ratios of an orifice length(L) to a diameter(d) and of a major axis diameter(a) to a minor axis diameter(b). With the increment of an injection pressure drop, discharge coefficients slightly decreased in cavitation flows, and those suddenly dropped and were almost constant in hydraulic flip flows. For elliptical nozzles with L/b > 8 and L/a < 8, discharge coefficients and flow patterns showed different results from those in previous circular nozzles. When a flow in the elliptical nozzle was under steady condition, as the liquid column went downstream from the nozzle, its spray angle a little decreased in the plane of a major axis and increased in the plane of a minor axis.
Breakup lengths of circular and elliptical liquid jets in a subsonic crossflow were experimentally studied. Two circular-shaped and four elliptical-shaped plain-orifice injectors, which had different aspect ratios and orifice length to diameter ratios, were used to provide various liquid jet conditions such as steady, cavitation, and hydraulic flip. By varying the injection pressure drop from 1 bar to 6 bar, spray images were taken using a shadowgraph technique. Breakup lengths were measured and analyzed. As the aspect ratio in orifices increased, liquid column breakup lengths normalized by the equivalent diameter were reduced irrespectively of the switching of the major or minor axis to the crossflow. It was also found that when hydraulic flip developed inside the orifice, x-directional breakup lengths more decreased for both circular and elliptical liquid jets.
