  • Carefully designed ZnO nanowire-film hybrid nanostructure, composed of a bottom ZnO film, ZnO nanowire arrays, and a top ZnO film, was consecutively fabricated by adjusting the supersaturation conditions using a metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) to utilize the vertically aligned ZnO nanowires as the oxygen sensors. The decrease of current flow through ZnO nanowire arrays increasing oxygen pressure showed the high potential for the application of the ZnO hybrid nanostructure to the oxygen sensors. In addition, it was confirmed that the oxygen sensing characteristics of this hybrid nanostructure were attributed to the defects near the surface of the nanowires.

  • In this paper, We investigated the effect of heat treatment process using photo-thermal effect in order to improve mechanical properties of nanostructure on polymer films made by nanoimprint process with hybrid resin. Nanostructures which have a low refractive characteristic were fabricated by UV nanoimprint and after that heat treatment was performed using IPL (intense pulsed light) under process condition of 550 V voltage, pulse width 5 ms, frequency 0.5 Hz. The transmittance and mechanical property of fabricated nanostructure films were evaluated to observe changes in the pattern transfer rate and mechanical properties of nanostructures. The transmittance of the nanostructure was measured at 97.6% at 550 nm wavelength. Nanoindentation was performed to identify improved anti-scatch properties. Result was compared by the heat source. In case of post treatment with IPL, hardness was 0.51 GPa and in the case of hotplate was 0.27 GPa, resulting the increase of hardness of 1.8 times. Elastic modulus of IPL treated sample was 5.9GPa and Hotplate treated one was 4GPa, showing the 1.4 time increase.

  • We report on the successful fabrication of ZnO nanorod (NR)/polystyrene (PS) nanosphere hybrid nanostructure by combining drop coating and hydrothermal methods. Especially, by adopting an atomic layer deposition method for seed layer formation, very uniform ZnO NR structure is grown on the complicated PS surfaces. By using zinc nitrate hexahydrate $[Zn(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O]$ and hexamine $[(CH_2)_6N_4]$ as sources for Zn and O in hydrothermal process, hexagonal shaped single crystal ZnO NRs are synthesized without dissolution of PS in hydrothermal solution. X-ray diffraction results show that the ZnO NRs are grown along c-axis with single crystalline structure and there is no trace of impurities or unintentionally formed intermetallic compounds. Photoluminescence spectrum measured at room temperature for the ZnO NRs on flat Si and PS show typical two emission bands, which are corresponding to the band-edge and deep level emissions in ZnO crystal. Based on these structural and optical investigations, we confirm that the ZnO NRs can be grown well even on the complicated PS surface morphology to form the chestnut-shaped hybrid nanostructures for the energy generation and storage applications.

  • In this work, thin film type Cu/ZnO nanostructure catalysts were fabricated by several synthetic routes in order to maximize the performance of the micro reforming system. For this work, various Cu/ZnO nanostructure catalysts could be synthesized by means of four approaches which are chemical vapor method, wet solution method and their hybrid method. The reforming performance of these as-synthetic catalysts was evaluated as compared to the conventional catalysts. Among the as-synthetic nanostructures, sphere type catalysts with specific surface of $18.6m^2/g$ showed the best performance of hydrogen production rate of 30ml/min at the feed rate of 0.2ml/min. This work will give the first insight on thin film type Cu/ZnO nanostructure catalyst for micro reforming system for hydrogen production of portable electronic systems.

  • Nanostructures consisting of $TiO_2$ particles as a core and carbon as a shell ($TiO_2$@C) were prepared by heat treatment of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles at high temperature in a methane atmosphere. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy showed that a carbon shell layer was formed well. These structures were used as supports for platinum nanoparticles and the hybrid particles exhibit improved catalytic activity and stability toward ORR compared to Pt on a carbon black (Vulcan XC-72R). It is likely that enhanced catalytic properties of the Pt on $TiO_2$@C could be due to the stability of the core-shell support in comparison with carbon black support.

  • Organic-inorganic hybrid thermoelectric materials have obtained increasing attention because it opens the possibility of enhancing thermoelectric performance by utilizing the low thermal conductivity of organic thermoelectric materials and the high Seebeck coefficient of inorganic thermoelectric materials. Moreover, the organic-inorganic hybrid thermoelectric materials possess numerous advantages, including functional aspects such as flexibility or transparency, low cost raw materials, and simplified fabrication processes, thus, allowing for a wide range of potential applications. In this study, the types and synthesis methods of organic-inorganic thermoelectric hybrid materials were discussed along with the methods used to enhance their thermoelectric properties. As a key factor to maximize the thermoelectric performances of hybrid thermoelectric materials, the nanoengineering to control the nanostructure of the inorganic materials as well as the modification of the organic material structure and doping level are considered, respectively. Meanwhile, the interface between the inorganic and organic phase is also important to develop the hybrid thermoelectric module with excellent reliability and high thermoelectric efficiency in addition to its performance in various electronic devices.

  • In this study, physically and chemically stable core-crosslinked amphiphilic polymer (CCAP) nanoparticles were prepared using amphiphilic reactive precursors via soap-free emulsion process. Obtained CCAP nanoparticles were used as templates for synthesis of nanostructured $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. First, CCAP nanoparticles dispersed aqueous solutions were mixed with titanium isopropoxide to prepare stable organic-inorganic hybrid sols, and then obtained sols were spin coated onto glass substrate to prepare hybrid thin films onto glass, and then hybrid thin films were calcinated at various temperature to remove CCAP. Nanostructure of calcinated thin fims were examined by SEM. To study effect of CCAP nanoparticles on nanostructure of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles, the morphology of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles prepared using various CCAP templates was compared with that of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles prepared using conventional organic template, nonionic surfactant, Triton X-100.

  • The properties of carbon nanotube-metal hybrid nanostructures are critically dependent on the structure and chemistry of the metal-carbon nanotube interface. In this study, the interface between nickel and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) has been investigated using physical vapor-deposited (sputter-deposited) nickel onto the surface of freestanding carbon nanotube arrays processed by nano-imprint lithography (NIL). These interfaces have been characterized by transmission electron microscopy and 3D atom probe tomography. In the nickel nanocrystals growing on the CNT surface, a metastable hexagonal $Ni_3C$-types phase appears to be stabilized. The structural stability of the nickel-CNT interface is also discussed and related to potential implications for the properties of these nanocomposites.

  • Direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) have found a wide variety of commercial applications such as portable computer and mobile phone. In a fuel cell, the catalysts have an important role and durability and efficiency are determined by the ability of the catalyst. The activity of the catalyst is determined by the structure and shape control of the nanoparticles and the dispersion of the nanoparticles and application system. The surface energy of nanoparticles determines the activity by shape control and the nanostructure is determined by the ratio of bi- and tri-metals in the alloy and core-shell. The dispersion of nanoparticles depends on the type of support such as carbon, graphen and metal oxide. In addition, a hybrid system using both optical and electrochemical device has been developed recently.
