  • This paper is to develop and estimate a closed form inflation model using the estimates for real marginal costs in manufacturing industries during the sample period 1975-2010. The production function in manufacturing industry incorporates labor, capital, domestic material, and foreign material, assuming constant returns to scale technology and AR(1) process of technological coefficient. We derive real marginal costs from firm's cost minimization with quarterly data and provide new evidences on the new Keynesian Phillips curve for Korea. The main empirical result is that the closed form coefficients ${\delta}_1$ and ${\delta}^{-1}_2$ in manufacturing for PPI inflation proved to be 0.5086 and 0.8779 respectively, similar to the estimates in the U.S. case. These results also are consistent with the functional relationship between the coefficients in hybrid model and its closed form. Thus the paper suggests that the empirical studies on inflation dynamics need to focus on the manufacturing industry with market power, treating PPI inflation as the dependent variable.

  • In this paper, the analytical appproaches are presented for jointly determining the profit-miximizing configuration of the fault-tolerance real time modular cell manufacturing system. The transient(time-dependent) analysis of Markovian models is firstly applied to modular cell manufacturing system from a performability viewpoint whose modeling advantage lies in its ability to express the performance that truly matters - the user's perception of it - as well as various performance measures compositely in the context of application. The modular cells are modeled with hybrid decomposition method and then availability measures such as instantaneous availability, interval availability, expected cumulative operational time are evaluated as special cases of performability. In addition to this evaluation, sensitivity analysis of the entire manufacturing system as well as each machining cell is performed, from which the time of a major repair policy and the optimal configuration among the alternative configurations of the system can be determined. Secondly, the recovery policies from the machine failures by computing the minimal number of redundant machines and also from the task failures by computing the minimum number of tasks equipped with detection schemes of task failure and reworked upon failure detection, to meet the timing requirements are optimized. Some numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the work.

  • Recently, thin and light-weight production technologies are needed in IT industry in accordance with increase of the smart phones and mobile PC products. In order to make light and high rigidity products, engineering plastic and aluminum materials are frequently used in products appearance and frame hat support structure. Especially aluminum extrusion and CNC Brick processes are widely used for high strength and high rigidity technology. But extrusion method has constraints to apply exterior design and CNC Brick process has relatively high production cost and low speed of manufacturing. In this research, a new process method is introduced in order to reduce material cost and to improve manufacturing speed dramatically. Plate forging process means basically that thickening of local wall area thickness after deform exterior shape by deep drawing and bending process. Therefore, it is possible to minimize the waste of material and the manufacturing time. In this study the process of plate forging is designed using finite element program AFDEX-2D and the thickness and the width of initial deformed blank. And it is verified as a sample which is a part of laptop developed through the proposed plate forging method.

  • Electro-optic characteristics of reflective hybrid aligned liquid crystal (LC) cell driven by fringe field using a nematic LC with positive dielectric anisotropy have been studied. Optimized optical configurations are achieved by using a single polarizer, half-wave film and a cell with quarter-wave retardation. The simulation results shows an optimum cell retardation of $0.30{\mu}m$. This value may allow a practical cell gap larger than $3{\mu}m$, which makes it easy to control in the manufacturing process. Furthermore, this LC cell with optimized cell parameters shows low wavelength dispersion and the contrast ratio greater than 5 over exists about $100{\circ}$ in vertical direction and $160{\circ}$ in horizontal direction. Also, when using the LC with positive dielectric anisotropy rather than negative dielectric anisotropy, the display shows low power consumption and fast response time.

  • This paper describes the design methodology, manufacturing process, rebar tensile and bending properties. Braidtrusion is a direct Composite fabrication technique utilizing an in-line braiding and pultrusion process. The produced Composite rebar exhibits ductile stress-strain behavior similar to that of conventional steel bar. Various rebar diameters ranging from modeling scale(3m) to full-scale prototype of 9.5mm have been produced Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics(GFRP) rebar were successfully fabricated at $\phi$8.5mm and $\phi$9.5mm nominal diameters of soild and hollow type using a braidtrusion process. Tensile and bending specimens were tested and compared with behavior of stress-strain of GFRP rebar and steel bar.

  • The objective of this paper is to present a framework for an expert system for fault diagnosis in an FMS (Flexible Manufacturing Systyem). First, a system is analyzed structurally and functionally, giving the relationships between the system's components. These relationships, represented by strata, are are then stored in a deep knowledge base (DKB). Next, the specific knowledge, represented by echelons, about the symptoms and their probable causes for each component is stored in a shallow knowledge base (SKB) in the form of rule. When the fault diagnosis process begins, it starts to search the DKB and then the SKB, which is called hybrid reasoning in artificial intelligence.

  • To enhance the productivity and quality of the compound process of progressive dies and transfer dies, the semi-progressive method is applied in the material supply step to produce blanks, and then the transfer method is applied. Parts are transferred among processes by means of the finger and transfer bar in the transfer die, and the final seat cushion panel is produced. The main challenge in the current study is how to deform a seat cushion panel while meeting the design specifications without any defects. In order to obtain this technology, a sheet metal-forming simulation and die forming of the seat cushion panel were adopted; as a result, a compound die-forming technology for the automotive seat cushion panel, combining both semi-progressive die and transfer die for continuous production, was successfully developed.

  • RIM(Reaction Injection Molding) is a widely used method to manufacture middle-large size outfit-part for a prototype car. The main advantage of RIM is the capability of manufacturing a small number of prototype parts with less cost and lead time than injection molding which is the most popular method to manufacture plastic parts. Generally, epoxy resin and RTV(Room Temperature Vulcanization) silicon are used as mold materials for RIM, and the selection of mold materials is usually depended upon the industrial environment of manufactures and it decides overall mold making process and part quality. This paper suggests a new mold making process by consolidating the advantages of epoxy resin and RTV silicon based RIM mold to enhance the parts quality while reducing the manufacturing cost and time and shows the competitiveness of the suggested process compared with conventional methods.

  • As electric vehicles (EV) have increasingly replaced the conventional vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICE), most of automotive makers are actively devoting to the technology development of EV parts. Accordingly, the manufacturing process for power source has been also shifting from engine/transmission to EV motor/reducer system. However, lack of experience in developing the EV motor still remains as a technical challenge. In this paper, we employed the forming simulation based on finite element modeling to solve this problem. In particular, in order to increase the accuracy of the forming simulation, we introduced the elastic-plastic constitutive model parameters for polymer-copper hybrid wire by investigating the individual strain-stress curves, and elastic modulus of polymer and copper. Then, the reliability of modeling procedure was confirmed by comparing the simulated results with experiments. Finally, the identified mechanical properties and finite element modeling were applied to a hairpin forming process, which involves multiple deformation paths such as bending, pressing, widening, and twisting. The proposed numerical approach can replace common experience or experiment based trials by reducing production time and cost in the future.

  • Network optimization is being increasingly important and fundamental issue in the fields such as engineering, computer science, operations research, transportation, telecommunication, decision support systems, manufacturing, and airline scheduling. Networks provide a useful way to modeling real world problems and are extensively used in practice. Many real world applications impose on more complex issues, such as, complex structure, complex constraints, and multiple objects to be handled simultaneously and make the problem intractable to the traditional approaches. Recent advances in evolutionary computation have made it possible to solve such practical network optimization problems. The invited talk introduces a thorough treatment of evolutionary approaches, i.e., hybrid genetic algorithms approach to network optimization problems, such as, fixed charge transportation problem, minimum cost and maximum flow problem, minimum spanning tree problem, multiple project scheduling problems, scheduling problem in FMS.
