Nutritious and functional foods from crop have received great attention in recent years. Colored-grain wheat contains high phenolic compound and a large number of flavonoid. The anthocyanin and polyphenolic synthesis and accumulation is generally stimulated in response to biotic or abiotic stresses. Here, we analyzed genome wide transcripts in seedling of colored-grain wheat response to ABA and PEG treatment. About 900 and 1500 transcripts (p-value < 0.05) from ABA and PEG treatment were aligned to IWGSC1+popseq DB which is composed of over 110,000 transcripts including 100,934 coding genes. NR protein sequences of Poaceae from NCBI and protein sequence of transcription factors originated from 83 species in plant transcription factor database v3.0 were used for annotation of putative transcripts. Gene ontology analysis were conducted and KEGG mapping was performed to show expression pattern of biosynthesis genes related in flavonoid, isoflavonoid, flavons and anthocyanin biopathway. DroughtDB (http://pgsb.helmholtz-muenchen.de/droughtdb/) was used for detection of DEGs to explain that physiological and molecular drought avoidance by drought tolerance mechanisms. Drought response pathway, such as ABA signaling, water and ion channels, detoxification signaling, enzymes of osmolyte biosynthesis, phospholipid metabolism, signal transduction, and transcription factors related DEGs were selected to explain response mechanism under water deficit condition. Anthocyanin, phenol compound, and DPPH radical scavenging activity were measured and antioxidant activity enzyme assays were conducted to show biochemical adaptation under water deficit condition. Several MYB and bHLH transcription factors were up-regulated in both ABA and PEG treated condition, which means highly expressed MYB and bHLH transcription factors enhanced the expression of genes related in the biosynthesis pathways of flavonoids, such as anthocyanin and dihydroflavonols in colored wheat seedlings. Subsequently, the accumulation of total anthocyanin and phenol contents were observed in colored wheat seedlings, and antioxidant capacity was promoted by upregulation of genes involved in maintaining redox state and activation of antioxidant scavengers, such as CAT, APX, POD, and SOD in colored wheat seedlings under water deficit condition. This work may provide valuable and basic information for further investigation of the molecular responses of colored-grain wheat to water deficit stress and for further gene-based studies.

The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway is the major regulatory mechanism in a number of cellular processes for selective degradation of proteins and involves three steps: (1) ATP dependent activation of ubiquitin by E1 enzyme, (2) transfer of activated ubiquitin to E2 and (3) transfer of ubiquitin to the protein to be degraded by E3 complex. F-box proteins are subunit of SCF complex and involved in specificity for a target substrate to be degraded. F-box proteins regulate many important biological processes such as embryogenesis, floral development, plant growth and development, biotic and abiotic stress, hormonal responses and senescence. However, little is known about the F-box genes in wheat. The draft genome sequence of wheat (IWGSC Reference Sequence v1.0 assembly) used to analysis a genome-wide survey of the F-box gene family in wheat. The Hidden Markov Model (HMM) profiles of F-box (PF00646), F-box-like (PF12937), F-box-like 2 (PF13013), FBA (PF04300), FBA_1 (PF07734), FBA_2 (PF07735), FBA_3 (PF08268) and FBD (PF08387) domains were downloaded from Pfam database were searched against IWGSC Reference Sequence v1.0 assembly. RNA-seq paired-end libraries from different stages of wheat, such as stages of seedling, tillering, booting, day after flowering (DAF) 1, DAF 10, DAF 20, and DAF 30 were conducted and sequenced by Illumina HiSeq2000 for expression analysis of F-box protein genes. Basic analysis including Hisat, HTseq, DEseq, gene ontology analysis and KEGG mapping were conducted for differentially expressed gene analysis and their annotation mappings of DEGs from various stages. About 950 F-box domain proteins identified by Pfam were mapped to wheat reference genome sequence by blastX (e-value < 0.05). Among them, more than 140 putative F-box protein genes were selected by fold changes cut-offs of > 2, significance p-value < 0.01, and FDR<0.01. Expression profiling of selected F-box protein genes were shown by heatmap analysis, and average linkage and squared Euclidean distance of putative 144 F-box protein genes by expression patterns were calculated for clustering analysis. This work may provide valuable and basic information for further investigation of protein degradation mechanism by ubiquitin proteasome system using F-box proteins during wheat development stages.
Objectives: Frey's syndrome is an infrequent complication after parotidectomy and its incidence varies from 23.5% to 50.8% in the literature. The objective of this study was to evaluate the actual incidence and clinical characteristics of Frey's syndrome. Methods: We analyzed 31 patients who underwent parotidectomy and serial Minor's starch-iodine test. The mean follow-up period was $66{\pm}26.1$ months (range, 24-118 months). The Frey's syndrome was analyzed using a questionnaire for the assessment of the subjective symptom and Minor's starch-iodine test for the objective measurement at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after the surgery and then every 6 or 12 months. Minor's starch-iodine test was graded from 0 to 3 according to the area of discolorization. Results: Frey's syndrome occurred in 11 patients (35.5%) on the Minor's starch-iodine test. The mean onset of Frey's syndrome on the starch-iodine test was $13.6{\pm}10.4$ months after parotidectomy. Sixteen patients (51.6%) complained about gustatory sweating and flushing. The onset of the subjective symptom was $11.27{\pm}6.96$ months after the surgery. There was a significant correlation between the grade of the starch-iodine test and the severity of subjective symptoms (P <0.001). Various factors including size and location of tumor, incision method, and extent of parotidectomy did not correlate with the Frey's syndrome. Conclusion: The incidence of Frey's syndrome was 35.5% on the Starch-Iodine test, and the onset was about postoperative 13.6 months.
Because cleaning products are part of our everyday lives, it is essential that they should not present significant risks to health. However, many petrochemicals in most soaps and detergents can be absorbed through the scalp and skin and, over time, accumulate in the organs and tissues. This accumulation may result in brain, nerve, and liver damage. Therefore, it is interested in developing non-harmful detergent. According to Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, GC-100X may be non-harmful and non-corrosive alkaline ionic water (pH 12). It is composed of hydroxyl radicals and supplemented with xylitol. To evaluate influence of GC-100X on rats and beagles, GC-100X was diluted with distilled water (25%, 50%, and 100% solution respectively). Each of diluted GC-100X was daily treated per oral. In body weight analysis, urinary analysis, ophthalmological test and autopsy, we did not find any significance, but in serum biochemical analysis and hematological analysis, we found some significances in middle dose group compared with control group. These significances in serum biochemical analysis and hematological analysis may be not induced by GC-100X, because it was not found to be significant from control group in histopathological examination. Thus, it is concluded that NOEL(No Observed Effect Level) of GC-100X may be higher than all treatment doses used in this study, and GC-100X may be a non-toxic detergent.

The secular fluctuations of catches and fishing grounds of mackerals and the oceanographic conditions for the fishing grounds are examined by using the data of catches of mackerals by middle and large class purse-seiner during 1951 to 1981 and those of oceanographic observation carried out by Japan Meteorological Agency. The results are as follows; The fishing grounds of mackerals are respectively distributed at northeastern and southwestern areas from the central part of the East China Sea through every season of the studied years: 1968, 1974 and 1980. The narrow belt type of fishing grounds were formed inside of the Kuroshio in spring and winter of the three years. In summer mackeral species move northward and the fishing grounds are formed in the southern sea of Korea. In winter, however, mackeral species move southward and the fishing grounds are appeared in the Tsushima Current region. The dispersion of fishing grounds is generally larger in summer and smaller in spring, and especially it is the largest in summer in 1980. It seems that the concentration and dispersion of fishing grounds are related to the depth of thermocline and the position of horizontal temperature gradient in this area.

The world's first face transplantation was performed in France, in 2005. Since then, 21 cases of face transplantation have been performed. Face transplantation is one of the most prominent part of composite tissue allotransplantation (CTA) along with hand transplantation. Since these fields are not deal with life-saving organs, there are many arguments about immunosuppression therapy. Recent paradigm of face transplantation shows that surgical ranges are expanded from partial face transplantation to full face transplantation. Most immunosuppression protocols are triple therapy, which consists of tacrolimus (FK-506), mycophenolate mofetil and prednisolone. Anatomical researches, immunosuppression, and immunotolerance take great parts in the researches of CTA. The medical fields directly related to face transplantation are microsurgery, immunology, and transplantation. Nowadays, each field is performed widely. Therefore people, even medical teams think face transplantation could be easily realized, sooner or later. But there are lots of things that should be prepared for not only practice and immunosuppression therapy but also for the cooperation with relevant fields. That's the reason why only 21 cases of face transplantation have been done, while more than 70 cases of hand transplantation have been done in the past years. Especially in Korea, brain death patients are not enough even for organ transplantation and furthermore there are some troubles in taking part in the society of transplantation. Face transplantation has lots of problems concerning variable medical fields, administration, society, ethics, and laws. Therefore, for the realization of face transplantation in Korea, not only medical skills but also political powers are needed.

We examined the conditions for separating and preserving the male and female gametophytes of Kjellmaniella crassifolia. The highest percentage of zygote germination (85%) was on semi-solid medium composed of 1.0% transfer gel agar at $15\;^{\circ}C$ and $20\;{\mu}mol/m^2/s$ after a 4-week culture. Zygote germination in PESI liquid medium was 93.5% at $20\;^{\circ}C$ and $20\;{\mu}mol/m^2/s$. The maximum zygote growth was $252{\pm}19.7\;{\mu}m$ on 1.0% transfer gel agar at $15\;^{\circ}C$ and $40\;{\mu}mol/m^2/s$ after 5-week culture, and was $76.7{\pm}2.8\;{\mu}m$ in PESI liquid medium at $20\;^{\circ}C$ and $40\;{\mu}mol/m^2/s$. The respective numbers of separated male and female gametophytes from germinated zygotes were 157 and 93 on 1.0% transfer gel agar and 14 and 28 in PESI liquid medium. The maximum growth of separated male and female gametophytes was $575{\pm}28.3\;{\mu}m$ at $5\;^{\circ}C$ and $60\;{\mu}mol/m^2/s$ and $686{\pm}35.4\;{\mu}m$ at $20\;^{\circ}C$ and $20\;{\mu}mol/m^2/s$ in PESI liquid medium after 3 weeks, respectively. The highest percentage fertilized was $93.3{\pm}5.8%$ at $15\;^{\circ}C$ and $20\;{\mu}mol/m^2/s$ in PESI liquid medium. These results show that the best conditions for the separation and preservation of gametophytes (male and female) consisted of culturing on 1.0% transfer gel agar at $15\;^{\circ}C$ and $20\;{\mu}mol/m^2/s$.
Poly(vinylidene fluoride) has received much attention in the last several years for the lithium secondary batteries. In this study, to enhance the porosity, PVdF was prepared by phase inversion method using as an additive, PEG (poly(ethylene glycol)), with N,N-dimethylformamid as a solvent. The pores are generated during the solvent and non-solvent exchange process in the coagulation bath filled with non-solvent (distilled water). The surface and cross-section of the membranes were observed with a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The mechanical property of the membrane was determined by using an universal testing machine (UTM) and thermal property was verified by heat shrinkage. Uniformed sponge structure of PVdF-PEG membrane for the lithium secondary batteries was prepared with 10 wt% of PEG concentration in the PVdF-PEG solution. Porosity, elongation and tensile strengh of the membrane were 87%, 75.45%, and 275. 27 MPa respectively.
Saengmaeksan (SMS) is a well known Korean traditional herbal prescription, which consists of 3 different herbs, Radix Ophiopogonis, Radix Ginseng, and Fructus Schisandrae. SMS has been commonly used in various disease including respiratory system and cardiovascular System in Korea. The objective of this study is to find out the improving effects of SMS against Dextran Sulfate Sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis. SMS reduced clinical signs of DSS-induced colitis, including body weight loss, shorten colon length, and increased disease activity index. The results showed that SMS significantly inhibited the activation of nuclear factor-${\kappa}B$ p65 in the colon tissues of DSS-treated mice. In addition, we observed that result showed that the levels of IL-6 in plasma were increased in DSS treated group compared to those of the normal group, but these increased levels were reduced by administration with SMS. Taken together, these findings suggest that SMS has improving effects on DSS-induced ulcerative colitis, which may explain its beneficial effect in the regulation of chronic intestinal inflammation.

In order to dispose of the LILW(low and intermediate level radioactive waste) stored at KAERI, the radwaste drum assay system will be introduced to evaluate the radioisotopes inventory of stored drums. At present, the construction project of the dedicated assay facility to operate it and carry out routine maintenance of that equipment has been conducting at the radwaste treatment facility. Since that facility will be constructed in front of a 1st radwaste storage facility as well as the radwaste drums to be assayed and the transmission source in the radwaste drum assay system are in that facility, they could act as the radioactive sources and then, would affect the dose rate at the inside and the outside of the facility. Therefore, the radiation shielding should be evaluated through the concrete wall near to the radioactive sources whether the wall thickness is sufficient against the regulations. In this study, the radiation safety for the concrete wall around the radiation controlled area in the radwaste drum assay facility was evaluated by the MCNP code. From the evaluation results, the thickness of those concrete walls which are under consideration of about 30 cm was enough to shield the radiation from the radioactive sources.
