The purpose of this study was to figure out the urban establishing families' economic structures(income, expenditure, assets, first-present-future housing cost etc.), the states of first-present housing, the future housing plans, and the housing preferences. For this purpose 274 establishing families in Seoul and its metro-politan area were interviewed through the standardized questionnares. Finally 264 questionnares were analyzed. The major findings were as follows; 1. The important source of their monthly incomes was the labor income. But there was often the transfer income from their parents. And the important items of monthly expenditures were savings and foods. In higher income classes, the traffic cost was important relatively. 2. It was found that the urban establishing families were very dependent on their parents for their first-present housing costs. The dependency was stronger in high education classes compared to the low. This was the case in future housing costs. 3. The states and changes of first-present housing showed the demands for an apartment, homeowership, and privacy. These tendencies were higher in high education classes compared to low education classes, but the demands for future housing were according to the monthly income. The present locations were determined majorly by the distance from office and parents. 4. Their housing preferences were different from the present housing states. Furnished rental housing, open living space, large common spaces, and common using of unusual appliances etc. were more preferred by high education classes compared to low education classes.
The purpose of the study is to analyze the residential mobility effects and planning discrepancies of home-owning households and renting households. The data for the empirical analysis were collected from 248 units residing in Ulsan and were studied using descriptive statistics, chi-squared tests by cross-tabulation and multiple regressions. The majority of the households did not experience a change in types of housing structure or ownership after the residential mobility. However, the housing size increased after residential mobility, showing that most moves were due to the deficit of housing sizes. In terms of future mobility plans, there were significant differences between home-owning households and renting households. More than two-thirds of the renting households were willing to move within 2-4 years to obtain home ownership. On the other hand, most home-owning households were willing to move for housing size, education of the head, and investment purposes. Compared to the forty-four percent of the home-owning households, seventy-two percent of the renting households were willing to relocate, which shows the effects of unstable housing circumstances.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference in school adjustment and future time perspectives, according to the characteristics in regards to the role models of the children in institutional facilities. Data for this study were obtained from a survey conducted on 310 children aged 11-13. Data were analyzed using various statistical methods such as frequency analysis, chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and one-way ANCOVA. The main findings of this study were as follows. First, overall, the majority of children selected entertainers and celebrities as their role models. Also, we found differences in children's school adjustment according to their background variables (gender, staying with their siblings, and having parents alive). Second, having role models was significantly related to the levels of school adjustment as well as the positive future time perspectives of the children. Based on the results, practical implications for children in institutional care were discussed.
Due to the advancements in the capabilities of smart devices and home networks, we are able to easily access multimedia contents stored in a home server. In this paper, we present a wireless media content sharing mechanism for home networks that utilizes UPnP-based DLNA technology. We also present a novel Peer-to-Peer content sharing system that is able to operate on the client as well as server. Our system supports multiple push/pull services simultaneously via a multi-thread technique, and our intuitive user interface facilitates ease of use. Future studies would explore the feasibility of implementing our system in a multi-hop environment or providing a community-wide service.
The purpose of this study is to measure the home helpers' knowledge about facts on aging and attitude toward the elderly in Korea, and to find out the variables that may influence their attitude. Four hundred and thirty eight home helpers working in a home help agency were given the questionnaire containing the Kyung San Facts on Aging Quiz to measure the level of knowledge about aging and Yoon (1988)'s scale to find the direction of attitude toward the elderly. The results of this study are analyzed as follows: (1) The home helpers' level of knowledge about aging was 59.1%, which was lower than nurses' level (65.0%) and social workers' level (65.3%). And the paid home helpers' level of knowledge about aging was 61.2%, which was significantly different from the unpaid home helpers' level (57.0%). (2) Using 5 points scale, mean of home helpers' attitude toward the elderly was 2.56 (51.2%), which was different from nurses' attitude (40.6%) and social workers' attitude (62.0%). And the paid home helpers' attitude toward the elderly's action (29.9%) was significantly different from the unpaid home helpers' attitude (32.6%). (3) Using multiple regression analysis, the home helpers' levels of knowledge about aging was the most significant predictor to explain the home helpers' attitude toward the elderly. The other variables that are also statistically significant predictors of the home helpers' attitude were sex, voluntary experience for the elderly, age, city size, and personal experience with the elderly. Especially the significant predictors to explain the paid home helpers' attitude were their levels of knowledge about aging and city size. On the other hand, the significant predictors to explain the unpaid home helpers' attitude were sex and age. Based on the research results, implications for practice and future research are discussed, and education methods for making home helpers' attitude toward the elderly more positive are also suggested.
Purpose: The study was conducted in order to identify factors influencing depression and quality of life in elderly customized home visiting health services. Methods: A total of 442 people participated as the subjects of this study. Data were collected during the period from June to September in 2010 and the measurement tool used for this study was the customized home visiting health service recording sheet recommended by the Ministry of Health. Data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: Depression was correlated negatively with quality of life. According to the results of this research, factors influencing depression in elderly customized home visiting health services were quality of life, customized home visiting health service period, and IADL. Factors influencing quality of life in elderly customized home visiting health services were depression, joint exercise capacity, age, connection to volunteerism, IADL and ADL. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the empowerment intervention on the levels of self-esteem, interpersonal relationships and adjustment to nursing home life of the Korean nursing home residents. Methods: Participants (n=47) whose period of stay was less than one year were purposefully selected from 3 nursing homes in Korea. The experimental group (n=21) attended 10 weekly hour-long empowerment sessions. The empowerment program comprised two components; group education and group discussion. The control group (n=26) received a two-hour education about health management. Results: Compared with the control group, the experimental group showed significantly higher mean scores of selfesteem (t=5.51, p<.001), interpersonal relationships (t=2.73, p=.009) and adjustment to nursing home life (t=2.10, p=.041). Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest that empowerment interventions may be effective in enhancing nursing home residents' self-esteem, interpersonal relationships and adjustment to nursing home life. Future research is needed to determine if such an empowerment program could be used with newly institutionalized elders to speed as well as enhance their adjustment to nursing home life.
In the era of home automation, we need more context-aware and intelligent service applications than before. For these applications, a service gateway as a platform is required to bridge the gap between external data networks to internal home networks. Also, the sonics gateway enables customers to receive new classes of home services. The OSGi service platform is a good solution for the service gateway since it can deliver new applications dynamically from a broader network. In the near future, every home will be equipped with a residential gateway powered by the OSGi, and will demand value-added service applications, such as home security monitoring and safety alerts.
