This paper is aimed to improve the current curriculum in the Korean elementary school’s practical course, which covers both industrial fields and Home Economics. Specially inveotigated here are teacher’s attitude toward the practical course and the degree of difficulty in teaching each content of the practical course in the 4th and 5th grade in the elementary school in term’s of teacher’s sex and localing. Since two heterogeneous subjects, industrial fie인 and Home Economics, are integrated into one subject named the practical course, the teaching of the practical course is not specialized. Besides, the teaching is implemented inefficiently, owing to the teacher’s misunderstanding of the practical course. In this respect, as a way of maximizing the effectiveness of practical course in elementary school, the authors suggest some proposals. (1) The curriculum of practical course should be divided into two course, industrial fields and Home Economics (2) All students should be completed Home Economics as a required course (3) A system of full-time teacher for Home Economics subject should be introduced. Concurrently, the curriculum of the practical course in Teacher’s College be modified.

The purpose of this study was to identify home economics (HE) teachers' concerns about and perceptions of HE education using the latest technologies in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution and to reveal whether they differ according to teachers' general background variables. The questionnaire survey method to measure HE teachers' concerns and perceptions of HE education using the latest technologies in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution was conducted online using the Google Questionnaire from which 150 responses were received. The main results were as follows. Firstly, HE teachers scored an average of 3.46 out of 5 for the latest technology. Among these interests in the latest technology, interest in "augmented reality and virtual reality technologies" scored the highest at an average of 3.80, while interest in "neural network machine learning" (2.78) was low. HE teacher's concerns about HE education using the latest technologies in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution were high, with an average score of 4.40. Among these concerns for the latest technology, "concern about the results of HE education using the latest technology" scored the highest at 4.53. HE teachers' anxiety about the latest teaching technology in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution was moderate, averaging 3.05. The highest form of anxiety was "anxiety about the impact on the job" (4.03) and the lowest was fear of "the disappearance of the teacher's job" (2.50). HE teachers' innovation resistance to the latest teaching technology was low at 2.18. Expectations of the latest technology in HE classes in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution averaged 3.85, slightly higher than the middle of 3.

The purpose of this study was to investigate middle school students’perception about Home Economics Education in order to provide the basic materials to improve Home Economics curriculum. For this purpose reviewing literatures and empirical research were conducted. the subjects were 661(fourteen-year-ole(8th graders) enrolled in middle school in Seoul and Gyeongsang-nam-do. Statistical methods adopted for data analysis were frequencies, mean standard deviation, ONEWAY ANOVA, Chi-square. Major findings were as follows: 1. The middle school students’perception about Home Economics Education differed with sex of subjects. That is, girl students’perception was higher than boy students’perception. 2. The middle school students’perception about Home Economics subject varied across parents’education level. 3. There was no significant difference in the middle school students’perception about Home Economics Education according to existence of mother’s Job. 4. There was a significant difference in the middle school students’perception about Home Economics Education according to region. That is the perception about the contents of eating life role was high in rural and the daily life as a consumer and resources application was high in Seoul. 5.The middle school students’perception about Home Economics Education varied across subject distinction. That is the perception of boy students who chose Industrial Arts$.$Home Economics subject was high.

This study was conducted to identify a problem of Industrial Arts$.$Home Economics subjects, and to improve its curriculum contents. In order to have accomplished the above objectives, the experts were gained about ideas and methods about organization of the curriculum contents of Industrial Arts$.$Home Economics subjects. In second questionnaire, based on the curriculum contents of Industriasl Arts$.$Home Economics subjects draw from the above review of literatures, the opinions of the experts were investigated about review of literatures, the opinions of the experts were investigated about the selection of the contents of Home Economics, Industrial Arts, respectively. The selected data in first questionnaire was manipulated by the frequency and percent. The curriculum contents in second questionnaire was selected above the sum total 80 in Home Economics subjects and above the sum total 61 in Industrial Arts subjects. The distinction of curriculum contents selected by the each domain were as follows. (1) The daily life as a consumer and the importance of home management were emphasized in the curriculum contents selected in the domains of consuming and management. (2) The vocational investigation, the course education, and the development of the young generation were emphasized in the curriculum contents selected in the domains of the family living and human development. (3) The basic Knowledge of nutrition and cooking and the contents related to the food choice were emphasized in the curriculum selected in the nutrition and food. (4) The choice and care of clothing a proper personal appearance, and the contents related to the machinery and tools were emphasized in the curriculum contents selected in the clothing and textiles. (5) The economical aspects of housing, the contents of the reasonable housing choics, and the contents for vital skills were emphasized in the housing and instruments.

At present, we are at the point of change of the 4th industrial revolution era due to the development of artificial intelligence(AI) and rapid technological innovation that no one can predict until now. This study started from the question of 'What role should home economics education play in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution?'. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is characterized by AI, cloud computing, Internet of Things(IoT), big data, and Online to Offline(O2O). It will drastically change the social system, science and technology and the structure of the profession. Since the dehumanization of robots and artificial intelligence may occur, the 4th Industrial Revolution Education should be sought to foster future human resources with humanity and citizenship for the future community. In addition, the implication of education in the fourth industrial revolution, which will bring about a change to a super-intelligent and hyper-connected society, is that the role of education should be emphasized so that humans internalize their values as human beings. Character education should be established as a generalized and internalized consciousness with a concept established in the integration of the curriculum, and concrete practical strategies should be prepared. In conclusion, home economics education in the 4th industrial revolution era should play a leading role in the central role of character education, and intrinsic improvement of various human lives. The fourth industrial revolution will change not only what we do, or human mental and physical activities, but also who we are, or human identity. In the information society and digital society, it is important how quickly and accurately it is possible to acquire scattered knowledge. In the information society, it is required to learn how to use knowledge for human beings in rapid change. As such, the fourth industrial revolution seeks to lead the family, organization, and community positively by influencing the systems that shape our lives. Home economics education should take the lead in this role.

This study aims at seeking how to activate and operate vocational home economics curriculum efficiently. We collected data from school district offices in the nation and questionaries to 37 high school teachers in charge of vocational home economics, 30 teachers in charge of vocational course, 305 students of vocational school, and 135 students on vocational course for the recognition of and request for vocational home economics curriculum. Collected data were analysed by frequency, percentage, and X(sup)2, and SPSS/PC(sup)+ program are used for the statistical analysis. Followings are the outcomes of this study. 1. The number of classes in which vocational home economics is operated has been on the rise since 1986. As for curriculum of vocational high school, 79 classes for clothing, tourism, and childhood education are being operated in 8 schools. 2. Teachers acknowledge vocational training should keep complete and sustaining education and that it should aim ar conduction education which enables students to acquire technical knowledge and to seek a gob. Both teachers and students admit vocational home economics should be carried out so that vocational training can be combined with general education. 3. Teachers put more emphasis on its major field than that general field. As for laboratory classes, teachers complained about the financial lack, while students need for field practice for the purpose of opening the way for combing theory with practice and proposing for scientific study of industrial sites. As for the contents, students considered the technical course size appropriate and they though it is desirable that the ratio of practical class should be increased by more than 60% of that of the current class ratio.
Creativity is a trait necessarily demanded in highly industrial and information oriented society. Accordingly, we should develop creativity through school education. The purpose of this study is to inquire a conceptual model and teaching method for developing creative problem solving skills in home economics education which can work at a platform for the curriculum developer. Although many definitions of creativity consider cognitive aspect more, personal or affective aspect is heavily involved with creativity. Therefore, creativity is a dynamic system which cooperates many contrasting and dialectic components in personal and cognitive aspects. The function of creativity is dependent on diverse environmental system. Environments influence on the extent of the development of creativity. Thus, the person-situation interaction model devised by Woodman and Schoenfeldt, integration of cognitive, affective, and situational aspects, is suggested as a conceptual model for teaching creativity in home economics education. The practical reasoning teaching model is suggested as a teaching method for developing creative problem solving skills in home economics education. The components of creative problem solving which involved with practical reasoning process are general knowledge and skills, specific knowledge and skills, divergent thinking skills, motivation and motives, and critical thinking skills.
This study explored the organization of high school Home Economics (HE) selective curriculum for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We critically review the change process of HE curriculum as well as problems based on the understanding of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The results were as follows. First, regarding the characteristic consistently shown in the revision process of high school curriculum, the huge increase of the number of subject organized resulted from the intensification of the selective-centered curriculum strengthening the choice for school and students. However, HE was reduced to some 'Technology-Home Economics' subject and a single subject 'HE Science' as a selective subject was subsequently combined with Technology after the $7^{th}$ curriculum period. Consequently, HE hard to organize the career-focused curriculum, emphasized by the revised 2015 curriculum due to the insufficient number of subjects. Second, the choice of HE in high school curriculum should be expanded as measures to organize the HE curriculum of high school to cope with changes that result from the Fourth Industrial Revolution. For the operation of the career-focused curriculum, career selective subjects and specialized subjects should be more diversely established. In accordance with changes in a future society that results from the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the HE education community should be prepared in advance to be organized as a selective subject when revising a subsequent curriculum, by newly establishing subjects necessary to students through collective intelligence and deliberation with pedagogists and scholars for subject content as well as by producing/getting approval from government-recognized textbooks.

This study proposes a model curriculum for Vocational Home Economics High School in the 7th Curriculum Revision. The model in the study is first drawn from the assumptions that reflect ever changing demands of industrial society for Home Economics education. Another perspective employed in the study is historical analysis that focuses on the evolution of the Vocational Home Economics Curricula from the 1st through the 6th revision. This study also employes comparative research tools for the national level comparison such as USA, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea. The proposed model curriculum in this study is concluded from those step-by-step studies as follows:1) Problem definition and design in current curriculum for Vocational Home Economics high school; 2) Needs and roles analysis of Vocational Home Economics high school for the future; and 3)Historical analysis of our curriculum revisions in the past and coparative analysis with other countries. Authors conducted this research project for 3 month period from June 15, 1996 to September 15, 1996. During this period, authors collected the data and information through those method as an extensive literature review, survey and interview, and curriculum specialist conference. The key and critical features of the proposed curriculum in the study are as follows:1) In the numbers of department, a proposed model curriculum offers 8 as opposed to 6 in the 6th revision, reflecting two additional departments of “Elderly Welfare”and “Cosmotology”. 2) In the statement of educational objectives, a model curriculum emphasizes a more concrete statement to each specific skills according to the changing societal needs. 3) In the numbers of total subject matters, there would be 40 in the new as opposed to 23 in the current curriculum. Among these changes, 17 would occurr in the newly introduced subject matters, while 11 would simply change the subject matter name. Among 40 subject matter, “Introduction to Computer” and “Home Economics in Vocational Education”would be required subject matter. 4) In the total numbers of required unit for graduation in three years, a model offers 86∼132 unit. A maximum unit for each subject matter would be 12.
The purpose of this study is to find some directions for students' future and Home Economics Education. Juniors and Seniors majoring in Home Economics were selected from 4 Universities in Chungbuk Province and the questionnare survey was used. The results of this study are as follows : 1. Most of respondents were defined the H.E. as the academic subject, and 50.2% of them regarded H.E. as a necessary subject regardless of whether it is their major or not. 2. Though the most general motives of choosing H.E. as their major were recommendation of their parents/neighbors or their school record, they are satisfied with their major. 3. The strongest reason majoring in H.E. was that it is helpful to living, and some students didn't show any interest because H.E. was not considered as a realistic study. 4. Many respondents answered that male students have to learn H.E., and thought that H.E. Education is much influential to one's living. 5. 59.6% of respondents replied that cultural studies related to H.E. are opened at the universities, and 90.6% of them thought subjects related to H.E. should be opened as cultural studies. 6. After graduation, 48.3% of respondents will choose their jobs related to their major, and they prefer to be a teacher, a dietition and a fashion designer in its order. 7. 44.3% of respondents thought that H.E. is neglected and 50.7% of them answered that the research by industrial-educational cooperation is necessary. 8. Many students majoring in H.E. took an optimistic view about H.E.'s future as a study.
