  • Based on the theory of piezo-elasticity, the paper obtains the exact solutions of functionally graded piezoelectric hollow cylinders with different piezoelectric parameter $g_{31}$. Two kinds of piezoelectric hollow cylinders are considered herein. One is a multi-layered cylinder with different parameter $g_{31}$ in different layers; the other is a continuously graded cylinder with arbitrarily variable $g_{31}$. By using the Airy stress function method with plane strain assumptions, the exact solutions of the mechanic and electrical components of both cylinders are obtained when they are subjected to external voltage (actuator) and pressure (sensor), simultaneously. Furthermore, good agreement is achieved between the theoretical and numerical results, and useful conclusions are given.

  • We have introduced the Pickering emulsion systems to generate novel confining geometries for the selforganization of monodisperse polymer microspheres using nanoparticle-stabilized emulsion droplets encapsulating the building block particles. Then, through the slow evaporation of emulsion phases by heating, these microspheres were packed into regular polyhedral colloidal clusters covered with nanoparticle-stabilizers made of silica. Furthermore, polymer composite colloidal clusters were burnt out leaving nonspherical hollow micro-particles, in which the configurations of the cluster structure were preserved during calcination. The selfassembled porous architectures in this study will be potentially useful in various applications such as novel building block particles or supporting materials for catalysis or gas adsorption.

  • The circular hollow section is usually used for member of main frame to carry the external load in single layer lattice dome. But, the H-shaped section may be used for member of main frame since it is convenient for attaching roof panels. Single layer lattice domes have various buckling characteristics, such as the overall buckling, the member buckling, and nodal buckling. The purpose of this study is to compare buckling characteristics of single-layer lattice domes in which the H-shaped steel section as the existing domestically-produced structural steel is used as main frames to those of domes in which a circular hollow section is used as main frames.

  • The spatial distribution of the optogalvanic (OG) signal in argon at the 801.489 nm ($1s_5-2p_8$ transition at the metastable level in Paschen notation) was investigated in the radial direction of a hollow cathode discharge tube. The results of this experiment showed that the OG signal amplitude decreases in accordance with the following two conditions; first, the level of discharge current and second, the distance from the cathode dark space. These results can be quantified by analyzing the electron density profile along the discharge regions, which can directly influence the collisional ionization induced by electron impact.

  • This study is about the effect of braiding on the 2-D biaxial braided hollow composite(BD) compared with unidirectional hollow composite(UD). The specimens were made of T700S Carbon/Epoxy prepreg and T700S dried Carbon yarns. Fiber volume fraction of UD and BD was obtained experimentally and analytically. Fiber volume fraction of BD was derived based on unit cell of braiding yarn section. Bending test was executed to investigate the effect of braiding part. The result of experiment and analysis of fiber volume fraction has good agreement. Bending strength of BD is about 20% higher than that of UD.

  • On the basis of equilibrium equations for static electric and magnetic fields, two unknown functions related to electric and magnetic fields were firstly introduced to rewrite the governing equations, boundary conditions and initial conditions for mechanical field. Then by introducing a dependent variable and a special function satisfying the inhomogeneous mechanical boundary conditions, the governing equation for a new variable with homogeneous mechanical boundary conditions is obtained. By using the separation of variables technique as well as the electric and magnetic boundary conditions, the dynamic problem of a functionally graded magneto-electro-elastic hollow sphere under spherically symmetric deformation is transformed to two Volterra integral equations of the second kind about two unknown functions of time. Cubic Hermite polynomials are adopted to approximate the two undetermined functions at each time subinterval and the recursive formula for solving the integral equations is derived. Transient responses of displacements, stresses, electric and magnetic potentials are completely determined at the end. Numerical results are presented and discussed.

  • A series of tests was performed to consider the behaviour of short composite columns under axial compressive loading, covering a range of S275 and S355 grade steel square hollow section filled with normal and high strength concrete. The interaction between the steel and the concrete component is considered and the results show that concrete shrinkage has an effect on the axial strength of the column. Comparisons between Eurocode 4, ACI-318 and the Australian Standards with the findings of this research were made. Result showed the equation used by the ACI-318 and the proposed Australian Standards gave better predication for the axial capacity of concrete filled SHS columns than the Eurocode 4.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the inelastic behavior of hollow reinforced concrete bridge piers under varying axial load. The role of the variable axial load is very important in the ductility, strength, stiffness, and energy dissipation. A computer program, named RCAHEST(Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The proposed numerical method for the inelastic behavior of hollow reinforced concrete bridge piers under varying axial load is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • The present paper develops piezo-thermo-elastic analysis of a thick spherical shell for generalized functionally graded piezoelectric material. The assumed structure is loaded under thermal, electrical and mechanical loads. The mechanical, thermal and electrical properties are graded along the radial direction based on a power function with three different non homogenous indexes. Primarily, the non homogenous heat transfer equation is solved by applying the general boundary conditions, individually. Substitution of stress, strain, electrical displacement and material properties in equilibrium and Maxwell equations present two non homogenous differential equation of order two. The main objective of the present study is to improve the relations between mechanical and electrical loads in hollow spherical shells especially for functionally graded piezoelectric materials. The obtained results can evaluate the effect of every non homogenous parameter on the mechanical and electrical components.
