In this paper, we introduce U-statistics approach to generalized Hollander-Proschan test for new better than used (NBUE) alternative. We prove, the proposed test is equivalent to test was introduced by Anis and Mitra (2011) and includes test was introduced by Hollander Proschan (1975). Also, the asymptotic properties are studied. The powers of our test are estimated. The Pitman asymptotic efficiencies of proposed test are also calculated. Finally, the test is applied to some real data.

In this paper we develop a test for alternatives representing decreasing mean residual life. The test statistic for decreasing mean residual life, $K_{1n}$, is a modified version of Hollander and Proschan's test $V^*$ and critical constants and large sample approximation are shown to make the test readily applicable. Consistency is also shown for the tests based on $K_{1n}$. And small sample powers for four alernatives are obtained.

본 논문에서는 신뢰성분석에서 고려되는 NBU class에 관한 새로운 검정법을 제안하였다. 제안된 검정통계량은 순서통계량의 선형함수의 형태로 이루어져있고 대표본 뿐만 아니라 소표본에서도 쉽게 적용될 수 있음을 보였다. 소표본인 경우에는 Monte Carlo 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안된 검정통계량의 검정력을, 대표본인 경우에는 점근상대효율을 Hollander와 Proschan(1972)의 검정통계량과 비교하여 보았으며 검정통계량의 일치성도 보였다.

In this thesis, a new test statistic is proposed for testing exponentiality against New Better than Used (NBU) alternatives. Our test statistic, which is based on a quadratic function of the order statistics from the sample, is readily applied in the case of small sample. Also, Our test statistic is more simple than the test statistic of Hollander and Proschan(1972).

The class of “new better than used of a specified age” is a large and practical class of life distributions. Its properties, applicability, and testing was discussed by Hollander, Park and Proschan (1986). Their test, while remaining the yardstick for this class, suffers from weak efficiency and weak power, especially for specified ages below the average age. Thus, it is beneficial to have an alternative testing procedure that would work better for early ages and still work well for later ages. This is exactly the subject of the current note. The test developed here is also simpler than that of Hollander, et. al. (1986).
