Recently there have been growing disputes between neighboring local governments over jurisdictional rights or property rights of ocean resources in Korean coastal waters. The reasons for the disputes come mainly from the increasing interests by local governments that begin to see the oceans as the source of resources and wealth. The maritime dispute is more complicated and sticky than the inland ones, and requires not only socio-economical but political approach, therefore sometimes demanding a plenty of time and endeavor. Also coastal states that have suffered from maritime boundary problems have different issues under the different environment and historical background. For Korea, as the maritime boundary issue has very recently soared to the surface, though it was latent for the period as long as 20 years, we have just taken steps toward an institutional approach on it, seemingly more to go to reach an agreeable resolutions to the disputes. This paper highlighted the issues surrounding the maritime boundary on the sea surrounding Korean peninsular after addressing the current situation of the boundary disputes. It will help explore and assess the possible solutions to the boundary conflicts over the lateral boundary between local governments.

Food irradiation is beginning to provide a safe, effective, and economical alternative treatment for many food products, especially for the raw food of animal origin. The historical background and wholesomeness of food irradiation were examined. The application and effect of the process were investigated. The cost and benefit of the irradiated poultry meat were evaluated. The effect of irradiation on the poultry meat, poultry products, and microorganisms were reviewed. With the safety of irradiated poultry meat and poultry products established, the future of the process is promissing.

Two methods of the numerical method of CPQRA(Chemical Process Quantitative Risk Analysis) and the manual method of IAEA(International Atomic Energy Agency) were used to estimate the individual risk and societal risk around the chemical plant. Where, the CPQRA is introduced to verify the theoritical background of the manual of international atomic energy agency. The Gaussian plume model which has a weather stability class D with velocity of 5m/s was applied to calculate dispersion of hazard material. Also, 8-point method was employed to the effects of accidents for wind distribution. Furthermore, historical record, FTA(Fault Tree Analysis) and ETA(Event Tree Analysis) were used to estimate the probability or frequency of accidents. Eventually, the individual risk shows isorisk contour and the societal risk shows F-N curve around hazard facility, especially in chemical plants. Caulculated results, which both individual and societal risk, by using IAEA manual show simillar results to those of calculation by numerical method of CPQRA.

Beginning with the historical background under the light of which the program of naturalization proves to presuppose the mechanistic mechanistic materilalism, this paper first exposes what is the problem about intentionality, and then explains and examines the approaches to the program of naturalization of intentionality. Churchland's eliminativism and Dennett's instrumentalism are examined critically. Intentional realism is argued for;however, Dretaske's theory is preferred to than Foder's because the former but not the latter reveals least one of the various possible mechanisms of misrepresentations.

After the outbreak of the Korean War on June 25, 1950, the US included the Republic of China on Taiwan (Taiwan hereafter) in its Asia-Pacific containment line, and restored the military and economic aid to Taiwan for the sake of regional security. The US aid to the countries along the Asia-Pacific defense line was not only in the form of supplying munitions, but also linked these countries together in an economic dimension. Taiwan is one of the 120 countries which had accepted US aid and also successfully moved from "dependence" to "independently sustained growth." This article will firstly review the historical background of US aid to Taiwan and related institutional development; secondly, this article will illustrate how Taiwan used US aid, and which economic sector the US aid affected; thirdly, it will trace the impact of US aid on Taiwan's foreign trade, and finally, to make a conclusion.

Applying the globalization theory to the fashion phenomena which regarded the phenomena of the contemporary culture as globalization, this study had an object of looking into the globalization tendency of the fashion phenomena shown Paris, London, Milno, New York, Tokyo, and Seoul collections from 1995 to 1999. The results of this study were as follows; 1. It was the blend of romanticism that was the most common trend shown at the six world collections. 2. The works appeared at the six world collections showed the regional peculiarity under the historical background or the sociocultural influence each city had. 3. Another character appeared at the six city collections was the appearance of multi-ethnic style mixed various regional motive at a work. After all, the world fashion phenomena in the second half of 1990's could be condensed into globalization appeared homogenization, regionalization and hybridization at the same time.

Magnetic switch is a kind of saturable inductor, which utilizes nonlinearity of the magnetization curve of ferromagnetic materials. The right understanding of the saturation phenomena, magnetic properties, voltage-time product, and switching characteristics of the magnetic switch is essential in designing the magnetic pulse compressor (MPC). In this paper, the historical background of research on the MPC, fundamental physical properties of the magnetic switches, and application fields of the MPC are presented. Further, an in-depth analysis of pulse compression in series and parallel MPCs is incorporated. As practical application examples, a series MPC used for water treatments and a parallel MPC used for pulsed electric field (PEF) inactivation of bacteria are cited.

This paper is to study about paisley shawl and paisley motif to focus on Kashmir shawl. Kashmir shawl and paisley shawl of Europe can be identified by the use of 'pine cone' motif. Early 19th Europe textile manufactures began imitating the Kashmir shawl, the motif began to be called 'paisley', after Paisley, Scotland, one of the largest producers of imitation Karshmir shawls. This study is to analyze on origin of shawl and paisley motif at the theoretical background. And main issues are to study on organization of the Kashmir shawl indusry, weaving technic and producing process, development of motif, change of size and border design of shawl, difference of Woven Kashmir shawl, Patchwork shawl and hml shawl, causes of decline to shawl industry, differences of between Kashmir and European shawl etc. The result of this study can help to understand correct and accurate information, knowledge of paisley motif and paisley shawl.

The four subjects which we human beings are going to face and negotiate toward the 21 st century are (1) Population , (2) Food 93) Energy and (4) Environment . In this paper, rice is recommended and proposed as one of the most valuable key resources for the purpose of covering those four subjects with harmonic progress and promotion of the economic development and growth . The historical background and the current status force producting in world wide were reviewed. To meet those subjects, various methods of utilizing rice were introduced and proposed, how could be usefully utilized and processed as food, energy and the role played by rice plant in absorbing carbon dioxide produced.

New curriculum for information and library science is proposed on the notion of the internship and scholarly characteristics. The future of the information and library science is expected as the discipline to synthesize the natural science and the social science. Especially the internship is strongly suggested as the post graduate program. To draw the conclusion. the history of the information and library science and its educational background are analyzed. The states of the historical developments of the information and library science are explained in terms of philosophy. The functional and scholarly environments of the information and library science are also investigated. Secondarily it concludes that the curriculum development for information and library science is not aimed on the skills but on the phenomena.
