  • This paper presents an original hyperbolic (first present model) and parabolic (second present model) shear and normal deformation theory for the bending analysis to account for the effect of thickness stretching in functionally graded sandwich plates. Indeed, the number of unknown functions involved in these presents theories is only five, as opposed to six or even greater numbers in the case of other shear and normal deformation theories. The present theory accounts for both shear deformation and thickness stretching effects by a hyperbolic variation of ail displacements across the thickness and satisfies the stress-free boundary conditions on the upper and lower surfaces of the plate without requiring any shear correction factor. It is evident from the present analyses; the thickness stretching effect is more pronounced for thick plates and it needs to be taken into consideration in more physically realistic simulations. The numerical results are compared with 3D exact solution, quasi-3-dimensional solutions and with other higher-order shear deformation theories, and the superiority of the present theory can be noticed.

  • Blind source separation by independent component analysis (ICA) has applied in signal processing, telecommunication, and image processing to recover unknown original source signals from mutually independent observation signals. Neural networks are learned to estimate the original signals by unsupervised learning algorithm. Because the outputs of the neural networks which yield original source signals are mutually independent, then mutual information is zero. This is equivalent to minimizing the Kullback-Leibler convergence between probability density function and the corresponding factorial distribution of the output in neural networks. In this paper, we present a learning algorithm using information theory and higher order statistics to solve problem of blind source separation. For computer simulation two deterministic signals and a Gaussian noise are used as original source signals. We also test the proposed algorithm by applying it to several discrete images.

  • Classical deconvolution methods for source identification following linear filtering can only be used if the transfer function of the system is known. For many practical situations, however, this information is not accessible and/or is time varying. The problem addressed here is that of reconstruction of the original input from only the measured signal. This is known as 'blind deconvolution'. By using Higher Order Statistics (HOS), the restoration of the input signal is established through the maximisation of higher order moments (cumulants) with respect to the characteristics of the signals concerned. This restoration is achieved by constructing an inverse filter considering the choice of the initial inverse filter type. As a practical application, an experimental verification is carried out for the restoration of our impacting signal arising in the response of a cantilever beam with an end stop when randomly excited.

  • The volume of an acoustic source is important in determining various acoustic parameters. One of the suggested techniques is the internal pressure method incorporating a loudspeaker attached to a chamber wall and a microphone inserted into the cavity. Although the method is easy to handle with a very simple measurement setup, the coupling effects between the dynamic system of the loudspeaker and acoustic field, and the effects of higher order modes introduced by the discontinuities in the acoustic field, and the effects of higher order modes introduced by the discontinuities in the acoustic field should be considered for precise result. In this study, higher order modes due to the discontinuities of loudspeaker and microphone boundaries are included and the electro-acoustic coupling effects are compensated for by using the results of two cylinders with different lengths. The volume velocity of a loudspeaker thus obtained agrees very with that measured by laser sensor.

  • The nonlinear thermal buckling load parameter of the laminated composite panel structure is investigated numerically using the higher-order theory including the stretching effect through the thickness and presented in this research article. The large geometrical distortion of the curved panel structure due to the elevated thermal loading is modeled via Green-Lagrange strain field including all of the higher-order terms to achieve the required generality. The desired solutions are obtained numerically using the finite element steps in conjunction with the direct iterative method. The concurrence of the present nonlinear panel model has been established via adequate comparison study with available published data. Finally, the effect of different influential parameters which affect the nonlinear buckling strength of laminated composite structure are examined through numerous numerical examples and discussed in details.

  • A novel higher order shear-deformable beam model, which provides linear variation of transversal normal strain and quadratic variation of shearing strain, is proposed to describe the beam resting on foundation. Then, the traditional two-parameter Pasternak foundation model is modified to capture the effects of the axial deformation of beam. The Masing's friction law is incorporated to deal with nonlinear interaction between the foundation and the beam bottom, and the nonlinear properties of the beam material are also considered. To solve the mathematical problem, a displacement-based finite element is formulated, and the reliability of the proposed model is verified. Finally, numerical examples are presented to study the effects of the interfacial friction between the beam and foundation, and the mechanical behavior due to the tensionless characteristics of the foundation is also examined. Numerical results indicate that the effects of tensionless characteristics of foundation and the interfacial friction have significant influences on the mechanical behavior of the beam-foundation system.

  • Chromatin has highly organized structures in the nucleus, and these higher-order structures are proposed to regulate gene activities and cellular processes. Sequencing-based techniques, such as Hi-C, and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) have revealed a spatial segregation of active and inactive compartments of chromatin, as well as the non-random positioning of chromosomes in the nucleus, respectively. However, regardless of their efficiency in capturing target genomic sites, these techniques are limited to fixed cells. Since chromatin has dynamic structures, live cell imaging techniques are highlighted for their ability to detect conformational changes in chromatin at a specific time point, or to track various arrangements of chromatin through long-term imaging. Given that the imaging approaches to study live cells are dramatically advanced, we recapitulate methods that are widely used to visualize the dynamics of higher-order chromatin structures.

  • This article focused on studying the buckling behavior of two-dimensional functionally graded (2D-FG) nanosize tubes, including porosity based on first shear deformation and higher-order theory of tube. The nano-scale tube is simulated based on the nonlocal gradient strain theory, and the general equations and boundary conditions are derived using Hamilton's principle for the Zhang-Fu's tube model (as higher-order theory) and Timoshenko beam theory. Finally, the derived equations are solved using a numerical method for both simply-supported and clamped boundary conditions. The parametric study is performed to study the effects of different parameters such as axial and radial FG power indexes, porosity parameter, nonlocal gradient strain parameters on the buckling behavior of di-dimensional functionally graded porous tube.

  • In the current investigation, we obtain the generating function for Hermite-based degenerate Bernoulli polynomials attached to ${\chi}$ of higher order using p-adic methods over the ring of integers. Useful identities, formulae and relations with well known families of polynomials and numbers including the Bernoulli numbers, Daehee numbers and the Stirling numbers are established. We also give identities of symmetry and additive property for Hermite-based generalized degenerate Bernoulli polynomials attached to ${\chi}$ of higher order. Results are supported by remarks and corollaries.

  • Here, in this research we have studied a two dimensional problem in a homogeneous orthotropic magneto-thermoelastic medium with higher order dual-phase-lag heat transfer with combined effects of rotation and hall current in generalized thermoelasticity due to time harmonic sources. As an application the bounding surface is subjected to uniformly distributed and concentrated loads (mechanical and thermal source). Fourier transform technique is used to solve the problem. The expressions for displacement components, stress components and temperature change are derived in frequency domain. Numerical inversion technique has been used to obtain the results in physical domain. The effect of frequency has been depicted with the help of graphs.
