  • Using the LOCOS process, we have fabricated the lateral type polysilicon field emission triodes with poly-Si/oxide/Si structure and investigated their current-voltage characteristics for three biasing modes of operation. The fabricated devices exhibit excellent electrical performances such as a relatively low turn-on anode voltage of 14 V at VGC = 0V, a stable and high emission current of 92${\mu}$A/triode over 90 hours, a small gate leakage current of 0.23 ${\mu}$A/triode and an outstanding transconductance of 57${\mu}$S/5triodes at VGC = 5V and VAC = 26V. these superior electrical operation is believed to be due to a large field enhancement effect, which is related to the sharp cathode tips produced by the LOCOS process as well as the high aspect ratio (height /radius ) of the cathode tip end.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been studied as an ideal material for field emitters due to the high aspect ratio, excellent electrical property and good mechanical strength. There were many reports on CNT emitters fabricated on rigid substrates, but rare reports about CNT flexible field emitters. Recently, we considered that CNTs can be a good candidate for a flexible field emitter material because of their excellent Young's modulus and elasticity, which could not be achieved with metal tips or semiconducting nanowire tips. In this work, we demonstrated the CNT flexible field emitters fabricated by a simple method and studied the field emission properties of the CNT flexible field emitters under various bending conditions. The flexible field emitters showed stable and uniform emission characteristics. Especially, there is no remarkable change of the field emission properties at the CNT flexible field emitters according to the bending conditions. The CNT flexible field emitters also exhibited a good field emission performance like the low turn-on field and high emission current. Therefore, we suggest that the CNT flexible emitters can be used in many practical applications under different bending conditions.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the patterns of dry matter (DM) production and accumulation, and to screen the relationships between related major growth characters and DM accumulation in four cassava varieties in Bogor $(6^{\circ}19'-6^{\circ}47'S,\;106^{\circ}21'-107^{\circ}13'E)$, West Java, Indonesia. Gading and Adiral developed an enough source and canopy in short at the early growth phase and then translocated assimilates to storage roots with a higher partitioning rate, even these varieties were considered as early-bulking varieties, which have superior source and sink potentials in increasing yield and DM of tubers. The root/shoot ratio (R/SR), total dry weight (TDW), leaf area duration, leaf area index (LAI), and number of tubers showed higher positive correlations with the dry weight of roots (DWR), and the direct effects of TDW, R/SR, and LAI on the DWR were higher. These characters were considered to be useful target characters to screen cassava varieties with high yield potential and high DM in aspect of tuber production.

  • This paper presents the experimental investigation of a biplane micro air vehicle. The effects of geometric parameters, gap, stagger, and decalage angle are investigated at low Reynolds number (~150,000) in a low-speed wind tunnel. A rigid flat plate with an aspect ratio of one and square planform shape is used to evaluate all three geometric parameters. The side dimension of the single flat plate is 0.15 m. The goal is to find an optimal biplane configuration that should exceed monoplane performance by generating high lift and flying as slow as possible, in order to capture high-quality visual recordings. This configuration will directly help to fly at a lower velocity and to make tighter turns that are advantageous in restricted environments. The results show that the aerodynamic performance of the biplane MAV is significantly enhanced through the combination of gap and stagger effects. A performance comparison demonstrates the superiority of the optimal biplane configuration compared to a monoplane in cruise and glide phases. Moreover, no significant compromise is found for the range, endurance, and climb performance.

  • These days, printed electronics attract attention from electronics industry. In this paper, the fabrication of the fine patterns by Near Field Electro Spinning (NFES) was studied by using Ag ink on silicon wafer (substrate). Two types of ink, the high viscous ink Ag-200 and low viscous ink Ag-15, were used. The fine and uniform patterns were easily fabricated by using Ag-200 because jet breakup is less occurred in high viscosity solution. As increasing flow rate of solution, aspect ratio of Ag pattern decreased. And there was optimum applied voltage for fine pattern. In case of Ag-200, the optimum applied voltage was about 2.02KV. When pattern was fabricated by NFES, the pattern width and height were affected by many factors such as viscosity, flow rate of solution, applied voltage etc.

  • 3D integrated circuit(IC) technology with TSV(through Si via) liquid cooling system is discussed. As a device scales down, both interconnect and packaging technologies are not fast enough to follow transistor's technology. 3D IC technology is considered as one of key technologies to resolve a device scaling issue between transistor and packaging. However, despite of many advantages, 3D IC technology suffers from power delivery, thermal management, manufacturing yield, and device test. Especially for high density and high performance devices, power density increases significantly and it results in a major thermal problem in stacked ICs. In this paper, the recent studies of TSV liquid cooling system has been reviewed as one of device cooling methods for the next generation thermal management.

  • The effect of pH variation in starting solution on the characteristics of hydroxyapatite precipitates and powder prepared by the wet method was investigated. Hydroxyapatite precipitates was agglomerated, the average agglomerated particle size was decreased in the range from 2 to 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ with increasing pH values in starting solution. The aspect ratio of rod-shaped hydroxyapatite particle was rapidly increased at pH 11 and 11.5. The maximum specific surface area, 91.1$m^2$/g, was at pH 10.5. Dried powder prepared at high pH values contained more minutes CO2 than that prepared at low pH values. The poor crystallinity was maintained up to $600^{\circ}C$ regardless of the pH values in starting solutions. However, the second phase or high crsytalline hydroxypatite phase appeared above 80$0^{\circ}C$. In pH 9.5 and pH 10, $\beta$-whitlockite transformed to $\alpha$-whitlockite at 120$0^{\circ}C$, while in pH 10.5-11.5, hydroxyapatite phase was maintained up to 120$0^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper summarizes the experimentally-measured performance of small-scale, vertical-axis wind turbine for the purpose of improving the aerodynamic efficiency and its controllability. The turbine is designed to have a Savonius-Type rotor with an inlet guide-vane and an side guide-vane so that it achieves a higher efficiency than any lift- or drag-based turbines. The main design factors for this high-efficient, vertical wind turbine are the number of blades (Z), and the aspect ratio of Height/Diameter (H/D) among many. The basic model has the diameter of 580mm, the height of 464mm, and the blade number of 10. The maximum power coefficient of 0.50 was experimentally measured for the above-mentioned specifications. The inlet-guide vane ensures the maximum efficiency when the angle of attack to the rotor blade lies between $15^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$. This experimental results for the vertical-axis wind turbine can be applied to the preliminary design of turbine output curve based on the wind characteristics at the proposed site by controlling its aerodynamic performance given as a priori.

  • Polymer composites which have electrical properties have been studied in various industries. The Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) are thought to be reinforcements for polymers because of their high aspect ratio and specially mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. We introduced MWCNT and impact modifier in order to improve thermal and mechanical properties of Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and give electric characteristic to PPS. The thermal properties were investigated by Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The morphology, mechanical properties and electrical characteristic were performed by Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Izod impact tester and surface resistance meter. As a result, we could find that the PPS/MWCNT composites have high conductivity and good mechanical properties than neat PPS resin.

  • The concrete plates are most widely used structural elements in the hulls of floating concrete structures such as concrete barges and pontoons, bridge decks, basement floors and liquid storage tanks. The study on the behavior of high-strength fiber reinforced concrete (HSFRC) plates was carried out to evaluate the performance of plates under in-plane and transverse loads. The plates were tested in simply supported along all the four edges and subjected to in-plane and traverse loads. In this experimental program, twenty four 150 mm diameter cylinders and twelve plate elements of size $600{\times}600{\times}30$ mm were prepared and tested. Water-to-cementitious materials ratios of 0.3 and 0.4 with 10% and 15% silica fume replacements were used in the concrete mixes. The fiber volume fractions, $V_f$ = 0%, 1% and 1.5% with an aspect ratio of 80 were used in this study. The HSFRC mixes had the concrete compressive strengths in the range of 52.5 to 70 MPa, flexural strengths ranging from 6.21 to 11.08 MPa and static modulus of elasticity ranging from 29.68 to 36.79 GPa. In this study, the behavior of HSFRC plate elements subjected to combined uniaxial in-plane and transverse loads was investigated.
