  • In this paper, a new high step up DC/DC converter with a modified super-lift technique is presented. The coupled inductor technique is combined with the super-lift technique to provide a tenfold or more voltage gain with a proper duty cycle and a low turn ratio. Due to a high conversion ratio, the voltage stress on the semiconductor devices is reduced. As a result, low voltage ultra-fast recovery diodes and low on resistance MOSFET can be used, which improves the reverse recovery problems and conduction losses. This converter employs a passive clamp circuit to recycle the energy stored in the leakage inductance. The proposed convertor features a high conversion ratio with a low turn ratio, low voltage stress, low reverse recovery losses, omission of the inrush currents of the switch capacitor loops, high efficiency, small volume and reduced cost. This converter is suitable for renewable energy applications. The operational principle and a steady-state analysis of the proposed converter are presented in details. A 200W, 30V input, 380V output laboratory prototype circuit is implemented to confirm the theoretical analysis.

  • A novel step-up DC-DC converter with a switched-coupled-inductor-capacitor (SCIC) which successfully integrates three-winding coupled inductors and switched-capacitor techniques is proposed in this paper. The primary side of the coupled inductors for the SCIC is charged by the input source, and the capacitors are charged in parallel and discharged in series by the secondary windings of the coupled inductor to achieve a high step-up voltage gain with an appropriate duty ratio. In addition, the passive lossless clamped circuits recycle the leakage energy and reduce the voltage stress on the main switch effectively, and the reverse-recovery problem of the diodes is alleviated by the leakage inductor. Thus, the efficiency can be improved. The operating principle and steady-state analyses of the converter are discussed in detail. Finally, a prototype circuit at a 50 kHz switching frequency with a 20-V input voltage, a 200-V output voltage, and a 200-W output power is built in the laboratory to verify the performance of the proposed converter.

  • This paper is studied on a new DCM-ZVS step up-down AC-DC converter of high performance, that is, high system efficiency and power factor correction (PFC). The switching devices in the proposed converter are operated by soft switching technique using a new quasi-resonant circuit, and are driven with discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) according to pulse width modulation (PWM). The quasi-resonant circuit uses a step up-down inductor and a loss-less snubber capacitor. The proposed converter with DCM also simplifies the requirement of control circuits and reduces the number of control components. The input AC current waveform in the proposed converter becomes a quasi-sinusoidal waveform proportional to the magnitude of input AC voltage under constant switching frequency. As a result, the proposed converter obtains low switching power loss and high efficiency, and its input power factor is nearly in unity. The validity of the analytical findings is confirmed by some computer simulation results and experimental results.

  • This paper is study on a novel high efficiency step up-down converter using loss-less snubber capacitor. The proposed converter is accomplished that the turn-on operation of switches is on zero current switching (ZCS) by DCM. The converter is also applicable to a new quasi-resonant circuit to achieve high efficiency converter. The control switches using in the converter are operated with soft switching, that is, ZVS and ZCS by quasi-resonant method. The control switches are operated without increasing their voltage and current stresses by the soft switching technology. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of the converter is high.

  • A high step-up dc-dc converter is proposed for photovoltaic power systems in this paper. The proposed converter consists of an input current doubler, a symmetrical switched-capacitor doubler and an active-clamp circuit. The input current doubler minimizes the input current ripple. The symmetrical switched-capacitor doubler is composed of two symmetrical quasi-resonant switched-capacitor circuits, which share the leakage inductance of the transformer as a resonant inductor. The rectifier diodes (switched-capacitor circuit) are turned off at the zero current switching (ZCS) condition, so that the reverse-recovery problem of the diodes is removed. In addition, the symmetrical structure results in an output voltage ripple reduction because the voltage ripples of the charge/pump capacitors cancel each other out. Meanwhile, the voltage stress of the rectifier diodes is clamped at half of the output voltage. In addition, the active-clamp circuit clamps the voltage surges of the switches and recycles the energy of the transformer leakage inductance. Furthermore, pulse-width modulation plus phase angle shift (PPAS) is employed to control the output voltage. The operation principle of the converter is analyzed and experimental results obtained from a 400W prototype are presented to validate the performance of the proposed converter.

  • This paper proposes a non-isolated bidirectional soft-switching converter with high voltage for high step-up/down and high power applications. Compared to the conventional boost converter the proposed converter can achieve approximately doubled voltage gain using the same duty cycle. The voltage ratings of the switch and diode are reduced to half, which result in the use of devices with lower $R_{DS(ON)}$ and on drop leading to reduced conduction losses. Also, voltage ratings of the passive components are reduced, and therefore the total energy volume is reduced to half. Further, the switch is turned on with ZVS in the CCM operation which results in negligible surge caused leading to reduced switching losses. The validity of the proposed converter is proved through a 10kW prototype.

  • An active clamp high step-up boost converter with a coupled inductor is proposed in this paper. In the proposed strategy, a coupled inductor is adopted to achieve a high voltage gain. The clamp circuit is included to achieve the zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) condition for both the main and clamp switches. A rectifier composed of a capacitor and a diode is added to reduce the voltage stress of the output rectifier diode. As a result, diodes with a low reverse-recovery time and forward voltage-drop can be utilized. Since the voltage stresses of the main and clamp switches are far below the output voltage, low-voltage-rated MOSFETs can be adopted to reduce conduction losses. Moreover, the reverse-recovery losses of the diodes are reduced due to the inherent leakage inductance of the coupled inductor. Therefore, high efficiency can be expected. Firstly, the derivation of the proposed converter is given and the operation analysis is described. Then, a steady-state performance analysis of the proposed converter is analyzed in detail. Finally, a 250 W prototype is built to verify the analysis. The measured maximum efficiency of the prototype is 95%.

  • The modular line-connected photovoltaic PCS (power conditioning system) is proposed. The proposed system consists of a step-up DC-DC converter and a full-bridge inverter. A step-up DC-DC converter using a dual series-resonant rectifier circuit and a active-clamp circuit is proposed to achieve a high efficiency and a high input-output voltage ratio efficiently. An IncCond (incremental conductance) MPPT (maximum power point tracking) algorithm that improves MPPT characteristic is used. By control a inverter using a linearized output current controller, a unity power factor is achieved. All algorithms and controllers are implemented on a single-chip microcontroller and the superiority of the proposed algorithms and controllers is proved by experiments.

  • In this paper, a non-isolated high step-up and high efficiency boost converter is proposed. By using the 3-level boost converter structure, the proposed converter can obtain higher voltage gain than conventional high step-up converters. The voltage spike of the switching device is well clamped by using the clamp circuit composed of a clamp diode and a capacitor and the energy of the leakage inductor of coupled inductor is effectively transferred to output. Due to the 3-level structure, the equivalent switching frequency of the coupled inductor is doubled, which results in reduced inductor size. A 500 W prototype converter is built and tested to verify performance of the proposed converter.

  • Recently, a fuel cell is remarkable for new generation system. The fuel cell generation system converts the chemical energy of a fuel directly into electrical energy. The fuel cell generation is characterized by low voltage and high current. For connecting to utility, it needs both a step up converter and an inverter. The step up converter makes DC link and the inverter changes DC to AC. In this paper full bridge converter and the single phase inverter are designed and installed for fuel cell. Simulation and experiment verify that fuel cell generation system could be applied for the distributed generation.
