$ZrO_2$ 첨가된 압전 복합체의 전기-기계 특성 (Electric and mechanical properties of $ZrO_2$ reinforced Piezoelectric Ceramics)

  • The objective of this study is to fabricate a piezoelectric composite consisting of a piezoelectric ceramic and a high toughness material and to evaluate their electromechanical properties for high force actuator applications. The mixture of the piezoelectric material, PMNZT, and high toughness material, $ZrO_2$, exhibited high piezoelectric properties as well as good mechanical fracture resistance. Up to 2 vol% of $ZrO_2$ in PMNZT matrix, piezoelectric $d_{33}$ coefficient was above 400 pC/N, being 80% of that for the original PMNZT, and the toughness showed twice of the PMNZT. When the volume fraction of the $ZrO_2$ was above 5%, however, the piezoelectric coefficient became abruptly decreased and it approached 20% of value for the PMNZT.

ENF 시험편을 이용한 평직 CFRP의 층간파괴인성 및 AE 특성 평가 (The Evaluation of Interlaminar Fracture Toughness and AE Characteristics in a Plain Woven CFRP Composite with ENF Specimen)

  • Woven fabrics composites are used as primary structural components in many applications because of their superior properties that offer high specific strength and stiffness. However, the complexity of the fabric structure makes understanding of their failure behavior very difficult. Also, laminate woven fabrics CFRP have unique failure mechanisms such as fiber bridging, fiber/matrix crack and so on. In particular, the delamination phenomenon of the composite materials is one of the most frequent failure mechanisms. So, we estimated interlaminar fracture and damage in composites using as ENF specimen by a 3 point bending test. And AE characteristics were examined for crack propagation on plain woven CFRP. We obtained the following conclusions from the results of the evaluation of the 3 point bending fracture test and AE characteristic estimation. AE counts of maximum crack length were obtained as $85.97{\times}10^4\;and\;93{\times}10^3\;for\;a_0/L=0.3$ and 0.6, respectively. Also the maximum amplitudes were over 80dB at both $a_0/L=0.3\;and\;0.6$. $G_{IIc}$ at that's $a_0/L$ ratio were obtained with $1.07kJ/m^2\;and\;3.79kJ/m^2$.

High Thermal Conductivity Silicon Nitride Ceramics

  • This paper deals with the recent developments of high thermal conductivity silicon nitride ceramics. First, the factors that reduce the thermal conductivity of silicon nitride are clarified and the potential approaches to realize high thermal conductivity are described. Then, the recent achievements on the silicon nitride fabricated through the reaction bonding and post sintering technique are presented. Because of a smaller amount of impurity oxygen, the obtained thermal conductivity is substantially higher, compared to that of the conventional gas-pressure sintered silicon nitride, while the microstructures and bending strengths are similar to each other between these two samples. Moreover, further improvement of the thermal conductivity is possible by increasing ${\beta}/{\alpha}$ phase ratio of the nitrided sample, resulting in a very high thermal conductivity of 177 W/($m{\cdot}K$) as well as a high fracture toughness of 11.2 $MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$.

  • Tetragonal ZrO2 polycrystal (TZP), consisted of 90.24 mol% ZrO2-5.31 mol% Y2O3-4.45 mol% Nb2O5, were prepared using hot-press and mechanical properties and high-temperature degradation were investigated. The specimen, hot-pressed for 1 h at 140$0^{\circ}C$ in Ar atmosphere, exhibited flexural strength of 1010 MPa and fracture toughness of 7.5 MPam1/2 and experienced no low-temperature degradation below 40$0^{\circ}C$. However, as aged for 100h at temperatures higher than 40$0^{\circ}C$, TZP was suffered by high-temperature degradation due to an extensive cavitation caused by the oxidation of carbon. XPS observation revealed that the carbon incorporated in TZPs during hot-pressing exists as either an ether-type CO or a carbonyl-type C=O. Despite of the high-temperature degradation of t-ZrO2 co-doped with Y2O3 and Nb2O5, its flexural strength and fracture toughness were superior to those of the commercial 3 mol% Y2O3-TZP hot-pressed under the identical condition as determined before and after the aging treatments.

고주파유도가열 연소합성에 의한 나노구조 ReSi1.75 제조 및 기계적 성질 (Mechanical Properties and Fabrication of Nanostructured ReSi1.75 by High Frequency Induction Heated Combustion Synthesis)

  • Nanostructured $ReSi_{1.75}$ was synthesized to have high density via rapid and cost effective process named as high-frequency induction heated combustion synthesis(HFIHCS) method. For the process, mechanically activated Re-Si powder was used, which had been prepared by mechanical ball milling of Re and Si powders with mixing ratio of 1:1.75. Both combustion synthesis and densification were accomplished simultaneously by applying electric current and mechanical pressure of 80 MPa during the process. The average grain size, hardness, and fracture toughness of the compound were 210 nm, 1085 $kg/mm^2$ and 4 $MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, respectively. The experimental results show that HFIHCS is a promising process for synthesis of nanostructured $ReSi_{1.75}$ which has a potential for both high temperature and thermo-electric applications.

  • Recent trends in shipbuilding and offshore industries are a huge increase in the ship size and the exploration and production of oil and natural gas in the arctic offshore region. High performance steel plates are required by these industrial trends. Also in IMO(International Maritime Organization) has begun to regulate of fuel of ship to environmental protection, therefore it is little bit difficult to use bunker-C oil to working ship. As the problem of environmental change such as global warming is emerged, the operation of the ship is considered to be involved in the environmental change problem, and the regulation of environmental pollution is gradually strengthened. As these environmental regulations are strengthened demand for LNG fuel ships is rapidly increasing. Currently, cryogenic steels used in LNG tanks include aluminum alloy, SUS 304, and 9%-Ni steel. Those steels are has high cost to construction of large LNG carrier. The new materials were suggested several steel mills to decrease construction cost and easy construction. The new cryogenic steel should be evaluate safety to applied real structure include LNG ship. Therefore, in this study, fracture toughness of weld joints were investigated with cryogenic steel for application of LNG tank.

  • In this study, the fracture phenomena of optical disks are discussed and then some recommendations are presented to prevent the fracture. The fracture occurs when disks have crack on the inner radius of the disks. Since the crack growth and the fracture result from the stress concentration on the tip of the crack, a measure should be taken to overcome the stress concentration. This problem can be resolved by the structural modification of a disk. This study proposes 3 types of improved optical disks, which are robust to the disk fracture due to the high spinning speed of a disk. The first type is a disk reinforced by wire rings, the second type is a disk added by texture fibers, and the third type is a rubber-coated disk.

압력용기강의 파괴저항곡선의 파괴변형률에 관한 연구 (A study on the Relations Between Fracture Strain and Fracture Resistance Curve of nuclear Pressure Vessel Steel)

  • Safety and integrity are required for reactor pressure vessels because they are operated in high temperature. There are single specimen method multiple specimen method and load ratio analysis method which used as evaluation of safety and integrity for reactor pressure vessels. In this study the fracture resistance curve(J-R curve) elastic-plastic fracture toughness($J_{IC}$) and material tearing modulus ($T_{mat}$) of SA 508 class 3 alloy steel used as reactor pressure vessel steel are measured and evaluated at room temperature 20$0^{\circ}C$ and 30$0^{\circ}C$ according to unloading compliance method and load ration analysis method. And then the comparison with experimental $J_{IC}$ and theoretical$J_{IC}$ by local fracture strain is managed.

비선형 파괴역학 파라메터(J-적분)에 의한 강섬유보강 고강도콘크리트의 파괴인성 평가 (Evaluation of Fracture Toughness for Steel Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete by Non-linear Fracture Mechanics Parameter(J-integral))

  • 본 논문은 강섬유보강 콘크리트의 인성을 평가하기 위하여 비선형 파괴역학 파라메터의 하나인 J적분이 최대하중점 파괴기준이 적용될 때 휨시험으로부터 하중-처짐곡선으로부터 간편하게 사용될 수 있음을 설명하고, 강섬유로 보강된 고강도콘크리트를 대상으로 노치를 가진 휨시험편을 제작하여 3점 재하실험을 실시하고, 그것으로부터 $J_{IC}$와 선형파괴역학 파라메터인 $K_{IC}$$G_{IC}$를 얻고 각각을 비교 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 강섬유보강 콘크리트의 파괴인성을 평가하기 위해서는 $J_{IC}$$K_{IC}$$G_{IC}$보다 더 효과적임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 강섬유 혼입률 0.5% 이하에서는 고강도콘크리트의 인성의 증진효과가 거의 없었으나, 섬유혼입률 1.0% 이상에서는 $J_{IC}$가 뚜렸한 증가를 보이고 있어 콘크리트의 개선된 인성특성을 잘 나타내고 있었으며. $K_{IC}$$G_{IC}$는 그렇지 못하였다. 그러나, $J_{IC}$의 정량화에 이용하는 공시체의 크기는 $J_{IC}$의 계산에 필요한 최대강도점에서 포텐셜에너지의 변동이 적고 시험편의 취급도 간편한 공시체의 선택이 필요하며, $J_{IC}$ 의 실험적 평가에 의해서 얻어지는 결과는 최대하중점에서 얻어짐으로 인하여 최대하중점의 선정에 아주 크게 좌우되는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 따라서, 강섬유 보강 콘크리트와 같은 비균질(非均質) 재료(材料)의 경우에는 균열의 진전과정(進展過程)이 불규칙적이므로 균열 발생점을 바르게 찾아내는 측정기술(測定技術)과 정도상(程度上)외 문제점을 포함하여, 파괴인성에 대한 좀 더 바람직한 평가방법 등이 이루어져야 할 것으로 판단된다.

$\alpha$-Sialon/SiC Whisker 복합재료의 기계적 물성 및 마모 특성 연구 (Mechanical and Tribological Properties of $\alpha$-Sialon/SiC Whisker Composites)

  • Sialon ceramics are presently seen as promising materials with high hardness, strength, fracture toughness and corrosion resistance for friction and wear applications. The objective of present work is to improve of mechanical properties and wear resistance of $\alpha$-Sialon(x=0.4) by addition of SiC whisker. $\alpha$-sialon(x=0.4)/SiC whisker composites were obtained by hot-isostatic pressing at 173$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour under 1757Kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ N2 pressure after pressureless sintering the mixture of Si3N4, Y2O3, AlN at 1780~180$0^{\circ}C$ for 3~5 hours in N2 atmosphere. As the amount of SiC whisker content increased, relative density and hardness were decreased, however fracture toughness, bending strength and tribological properties were improved. Tribological properties of $\alpha$-Sialon/15 vol% SiC whisker composite were improved in spite of its low mechanical properties.
