  • In this paper, we propose a frame-rate up-conversion method for temporal quality enhancement. The proposed method adaptively changes search range during hierarchical motion estimation and reconstructs hole regions using the proposed bi-direction prediction and linear interpolation. In order to alleviate errors due to inaccurate motion vector estimation, search range is adaptively changed based on reliability and for more accurate, motion estimation is performed in descending order of block variance. After segmentation of background and object regions, for filling hole regions, the pixel values of background regions are reconstructed using linear interpolation and those of object regions are compensated based on the proposed hi-directional prediction. The proposed algorithm is evaluated in terms of PSNR with original uncompressed sequences. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is better than conventional methods by around 2dB, and blocky artifacts and blur artifacts are significantly diminished.

  • We propose the new algorithm for scene segmentation. The proposed system consists motion estimation module and motion segmentation module. The former estimates 2D-motion value for each pixel position from two images transformed by wavelet. The latter determine scene segments well fitting on dominant affine motion models. What distinguishes proposed algorithm from other methods is that it needs not other post-processing for scene segmentation. We can manipulate both multimedia data and objects in virtual environment using proposed algorithm.

  • Wavelet transform decomposes a video frame into a set of subframes with different resolutions corresponding to different frequency bands. The block size of highest layer subframe is too small to estimate correct motion. To decrease this aperture problem in the approximation frame, multiresolution motion estimation (MRME) using hierarchical block matching is presented in this paper. In the multiresolution motion estimation approach, motion vectors in the subframes are estimated by the motion vectors in the approximation frame and are refined at each subframe. It reduces computational time in motion estimation. It is shown that our MRME approach has a superior performance than traditional MRME approaches.

  • In this paper, we propose a hierarchical triangular mesh generation method based on the motion information and a fast rude convergence method. From the variance of Image difference we decide the region that subdivision is required and perform the adequate triangulation method that is possible to yield a successive hierarchical triangulation. For fast node convergence, in initial search, we use the refinement method that separate the backgroung and object region and maintain the mesh connection by using the bilinear interpolation. The simulation result demonstrate that proposed triangulation method have performance in PSNR than the conventional BMA or order mesh based method and refinement is appropriate for the case of the mesh size is small.

  • In this paper, a new hierarchical motion estimation (ME) scheme using the wavelet transformed multi-resolution image layers is proposed. While the coarse-to-fine (CtF) ME, used in previously proposed coding schemes, can provide a better estimate at the coarsest resolution, it is difficult to accurately track motion at finer resolution. On the other hand, in fine-to-coarse (FtC) ME, it can solves this local minima problem by estimating motion track at the finest subband and propagating the motion vector (MV) to coarser subband. But this method causes to higher computational overhead. This paper proposes a new method for reducing the computational overhead of fine-to-coarse rnulti-resolution motion estimation (MRME) at the finest resolution level by searching for the region to consider motion vectors of the coarsest resolution subband.

  • MASF is a kind of temporal filter proposed for noise reduction and temporal band limitation. MASF uses motion vectors to extract temporal information in spatial domain. Therefore, inaccurate motion information causes some distortions in MASF operation. Currently, bilinear interpolation after BMA(Block Matching Algorithm) is used for the motion estimation sheme of MASF. But, this method results in unreliable estimation when the object in image sequence has larger movement than the maximum displacement assumed in BMA or the input images are severely corrupted with noise. In order to i:;olve this problem, we analyse the effect of inaccurate motion on MASF and propose a hierarchical motion estimation algorithm based on the analysis results. Experimental results show that the proposed method produces reliable output under large motion and noisy situations.

  • This paper invetigates estimation methods of mapping parameters in object-oriented coding. In this paper, we propose a fast parameter estimation method with its performance similar to that of the conventional methods. We employ hierarchical structure in difference images to redcue the computational complexity and also combine conventional six- and eight-mapping parameter estimation methods to compensate for the performance degradation caused by employment of hierarchical structure. Computer simulation shows that the proposed mehtod gives results similar to conventional methods with greatly reduced computational complexity.

  • To improved the multi-resolution fast hierarchical motion estimation by using de-interlacing algorithm that is effective in term of both performance and VLSI implementation, is proposed so as to cover large search area field-based as well as frame based image processing in SoC design. In this paper, we have simulated a various picture mode M=2 or M=3. As a results, the proposed algorithm achieved the motion estimation performance PSNR compare with the full search block matching algorithm, the average performance degradation reached to -0.7dB, which did not affect on the subjective quality of reconstructed images at all. And acquiring the more desirable to adopt design SoC for the fast hierarchical motion estimation, we exploit foreground and background search algorithm (FBSA) base on the dual arithmetic processor element(DAPE). It is possible to estimate the large search area motion displacement using a half of number PE in general operation methods. And the proposed architecture of MHME improve the VLSI design hardware through the proposed FBSA structure with DAPE to remove the local memory. The proposed FBSA which use bit array processing in search area can improve structure as like multiple processor array unit(MPAU).

  • In High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), integer motion estimation (IME) requires a large amount of computational complexity because HEVC adopts the high flexible and hierarchical coding structures. In order to reduce the computational complexity of IME, this paper proposes the search range reduction algorithm, which takes advantage of motion vectors similarity between different layers. It needs only a few modification for HEVC reference software. Based on the experimental results, the proposed algorithm reduces the processing time of IME by 28.1% on average, whereas its the $Bj{\emptyset}ntegaard$ delta bitrate (BD-BR) increase is 0.15% which is negligible.

  • In this paper we proposed a hierarchical ASM for real-time tracking of non-rigid objects. For tracking an object we used ASM for estimating object contour possibly with occlusion. Moreover, to reduce the processing time we used hierarchical approach for real-time tacking. In the next frame we estimated the initial feature point by using Kalman filter. We also added block matching algorithm for increasing accuracy of the estimation. The proposed hierarchical, prediction-based approach was proven to out perform the exiting non-hierarchical, non-prediction methods.
